Croydon Posted July 30, 2013 Share Posted July 30, 2013 Hi I read somewhere on the Australian Immigration website that 'required to demonstrate and/or declare that they have genuine access to sufficient funds to be granted a student visa. Applicants may have to demonstrate sufficient funds to cover these expenses for the first one or two years in Australia, depending on their assessment level' My questions therefore ( and I apologize if these are one too many) are: - Is the above also applicable in someway for the the below categories? Skilled – 189 Skilled –190 - Does any know if one needs to show any funds prior to VISA application? - What is the amount to be shown per person (for a family of 4 - Wife, 2 kids and self)? - Does the evidence have to be funds in my bank account or - can it be in the form of assets or - can it be the balance in account + assets? - If money is to be shown, does the required amount have to be in the account for a certain history say last 3 months or last 6 months? Any information regarding the all or some of the above would be really appreciated. rammygirl Posted July 30, 2013 Share Posted July 30, 2013 You need to update your info, those visas are no longer open to new applicants. The equivalent visas are the 189 and 190 via skill select. Some states require you to show funds if they are sponsoring you for a visa. The unsponsored one requires no funds, though they do advise you have enough to settle, very few benefits are available for the first two years. Visa fees have gone up too. You are looking at more than $6k just for the visa now plus assessment fees, IELTS, medicals etc. It isn't a cheap gig. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

For example NT require $65,000 for 2 adults and 2 children, and need to provide proof of the financial assets http://www.migration.nt.gov.au/visa/skilled_nominated.html SA, between $35,000-40,000, stating were financial assets are coming from - i.e savings, sale of property. https://www.migration.sa.gov.au/node/104 WA no set amount - but figures similar to SA would be required. Thanks Croydon Thanks Croydon, it seems to be that WA don't actually ask for evidence, simply want to know you'll have enough to settle....havnt heard of anyone actually having to provide proof for WA 190 up to now. Those state funds requirements listed in the above posts ONLY apply to applications for 489 and 190 state sponsored visas. There are NO funds requirements for 189 visas. There should be, but there are none and you can apply for a 189 with no more funds than the absolute minimum needed to get the visa and you could arrive with nothing. You would be crazy to do so, but DIBP won't do anything to stop you either when you apply for the 189 or when you arrive in the country.
