Inpex have a big project kicking off, have a look here http://www.inpexcareers.com/job-search

Possibly also look at the Gorgon Project (Chevron) though they have been getting rid of people and the project is over budget.

There are regular expos in Perth for Oil and Gas industry, I am only an 'interested party' I work in IT and these big projects spawn lucrative roles for me too! I would not think you would find it too hard to find work though,

Oil n Gas is dead as it is with mining and it looks to be that way for some time. The boom is over.

When papers or expos say they're booming over here and there's a massive skills shortage.... actually it isnt really at all, many of the jobs are filled before advertising but they are required to go through the motions as per law or company policy.

You may also find rather than competency, people are hired from who they know or certifications. You have a lot of useless people in positions they shouldnt be in but thats how it is and after a while you will get to know people so its all good from then on.

The market place is very small compared to the UK where international opportunities also come into factor. Just compare on something like Oil n Gas jobs or simular.

Perth is a small town and the work here in Oz is not massive irrespective of project value.

Wages arent too good either due to tax rates. (engineer over 50%) If you have been contracting in the UK then I would say if you like your standard of living then dont bother coming here expecting it to be the same as take home will be less and its more expensive.

That said this industry pays OK so you wont be begging but there are so many better places and more interesting to live and work if you work in this industry

Hi there,

myelf (Scottish, but living in Aus for 10yrs), my partner (aus) and our 3 kids (who have british passports) are moving back to Scotland this year, as I miss it like hell.

My partner is an electrician here in NSW- would he be able to get work on the north sea rigs and what would he have to do to transfer his skills?

Any info greatly appreciated

What a load of tosh this post is. Loads of work offshore, they can't get experienced guys! Lots of projects kicking off here over the next few years. I don't know what 'game' Dusty Road is in, but it can't be Oil & Gas....

Hi Guys,

Thought I would ressurect this thread as I am looking for operations technician/producton technician jobs (same thing). I applied for Inpex at Darwin but it is very early stages there and office work doing procedures etc so limited staff. I am interested in Conocophillips Darwin LNG plant and their Curtis Island LNG project. Does anyone know what the terms are for Curtis island and what the aarea is like as I have mainly researched Darwin?

Cheers

I'm glade someone else said it was a load of dribble yes it's slowed down as demand has decreased but there's still a number of projects up and coming in the pipe line and lots of infrastructure being built to accomadate that. It certainly isn't dead.

Chevron seem to be recruiting heavily for Gorgon project. Unlike the UK, every job here, no matter how specialist seems to appear on www.seek.com.au . I have a few applications on the go for offshore work at the moment (Anchor Handlers/Supply) and I applied directly to all companies I could find, in addition to applying via the website. Some companies told me outright they are recruiting but wouldn't consider me until I arrived in the country.

Hello opsTech,

I am glad to see your post here on the forum. Finally i got a Production technician looking for a job in OZ.

I just had my visa 489 WA sponsored and looking for a job. Applied in Chevron, inpex,Gorgon, conco, arrow energy etc, with no response at all.

I am working in Refining/LNG sector since 2007, currently in Middle east with a giant LNG producer.

Please stay in touch if you have any info regarding the jobs in our profession. Thanks much

I dont know about these posts above and where these guys work but from what I see the Oil and gas market is shrinking and its because the dollar is too high. many projects have decided to go forward with floating LNG so they dont have to come into ozzy waters and can employ nationals from almost anywhere other than Australia.

There are a lot of people out of work now, there are a few bits of work offshore and here and there but there small scopes of work. Gorgon is starting to ramp down so whatever is advertised is usually rubbish posted from agents trying to get a CV and find out who your boss is to then call them up.

There aren't any major projects starting in Perth

There are operations jobs about, especially from Inpex but they're not paying great compared to Oil n Gas jobs elsewhere in the world.

Dusty where are you getting your information?? I came over from the North Sea after working in Egypt, Oman and Brazil and had 3 production operator job offers! I have worked for Apache and now have a job with Inpex and let me tell you they are paying great money compared to oil and gas elsewhere in the world! where else in the world have you worked in oil and gas??

There are plenty of opportunities for production operators in Australia there is a shortage of good experienced operators.
