  1. Thanks for the advice. Certainly some food for thought.
  2. Hi, my wife and myself are looking at coming over for a job opportunity for myself. I believe we would be permanent residents. My son (from previous marriage) is currently at Uni in UK studying biological science with the aim being to go on to study medicine to become a G.P. He has expressed an interest in joining us over there and I have been looking at how his study/qualifications could be transferred over. It seems, from my research, that he would be best to finish his degree over here and then sit the GAMSAT? test to apply for a specific medical school. If he then got accepted would he be classed as a permanent resident if he was living with us? Could we sponsor him in some way to enable him to go over? What would be the position with tuition fees/loans while at med school if accepted? We are looking at Darwin and they do have a med school there. His degree would be suitable so as long as he does well enough in the GAMSAT tests he should be ok to get in. Just wondered how he would be classed to further reseasrch the likely costs of continuing his study over there. Cheers
  3. Hi, I am currently in for a job on the Darwin LNG plant (Conocophillips) and have been researching areas to live. I thought Palmerston would be good for the commute but wondered just how long a drive it would be from Darwin itself, and from Palmerston suburbs? Any other good areas to live with rough commute times there would be useful too. Cheers
  4. Hi, can anyone tell me what the actual limits are in Oz for company share schemes. For instance, in UK we CAN save (in a save as you earn scheme) upto £250/m, soon to change to £500/m with a 20% discount option price and 3 or 5 yr saving lengths. Also we have the SIP schemes were we buy upto £125/m of shares each month pre-tax and are awarded so many shares for each we buy. Where I work it is buy 2 get 1 free. Previous employment was buy1 get 2 free. There are limits on the free shares but not sure what they are. The SIP shares are tax free if held 5 yrs. The SAYE are CGT liable. What are the Australian share scheme limits/tax rules? I have heard that the company I am being interviewd for a job by are giving 5 free shares for each you buy, so assume that is a similar scheme to the UK SIP scheme. Cheers.
  5. Yeah, I know there is demand because a few people I used to work with have gone over from the UK over the last year to the projects I mentioned plus a couple of others, near Perth and Brisbane I believe.
  6. Hi Guys, Thought I would ressurect this thread as I am looking for operations technician/producton technician jobs (same thing). I applied for Inpex at Darwin but it is very early stages there and office work doing procedures etc so limited staff. I am interested in Conocophillips Darwin LNG plant and their Curtis Island LNG project. Does anyone know what the terms are for Curtis island and what the aarea is like as I have mainly researched Darwin? Cheers
  7. Would $60k take home be enough to live reasonable lifestyle in Darwin area, probably Palmerston/Durack? Thats $5k a month for house rental and probably two cars etc. Just myself working probably supporting wife and dependant adult daughter. Ideally 3 bed home so have spare room. Not a clue as to what fuel costs, ins, food etc costs are. Cheers
