  1. Well that's the thing. If I'm being honest I'd be doing the Move just because i can. Not because I hanker for the 'life style'. So my reasons are not Strong ones for going. (I don't have a strong magnetic attraction for going, neither am I running away from something) BUT as people will tell you "you only get one life/life's too short/don't like it then easy to come back. If I can take a month off work for a Reconnaissance mission then perhaps that'll get it out of my system (stay or go) Thanks for replies as always. J
  2. I hear alot or I perceive it anyway about how hollow Oz leaves people feeling. This post is interesting to me as I'm mid 40s with a visa whose travel portion is soon to run out. Nothing particularly to leave the UK for and nothing particularly drawing me to Oz. Except no ties, you only have one life, I like the beach and sunbathing and water based activity (scuba, Kitesurfing) but equally like chill-laxing watching a box set. I look at Oz houses ask the time thinking wow the size!! But they all look HOLLOW. tiny rear gardens with tin fences HOLLOW.i do like the clean minimalist look though. Plus I like my own space so provided you can watch box sets and movies that would be the escape from terrible Oz TV. I'm babbling now as not sure where my reply is going lol.
  3. Swiping on my phone, must have double tapped the shift key
  4. Marisa thank you so so much for your reply (you've given me some dutch courage) without the Dutch. What do you do for a living??? When you say "we see so many potential migrants here" are you a migration agent?
  5. I've contacted estates agents about buying property, it's a bold move. Assuming RRV is granted the next snag is (and I can't remember what it's called/get to my laptop to check) is you need to write to explain your absence for over 5yrs. But if I get to go on a holiday/Reconnaissance mission to Oz this year does the "over 5yrs since you last left Oz" get reset?? My problem is I over analysis things when u should just GO or STAY and stop with the what ifs. Thanks for your reply Marisa
  6. Thanks very stormy (apologies for spelling in advance as in swiping on my phone rather than on laptop) i was wondering if you were going to answer my question! [emoji23] Glad you did. I'm similar regarding my view of Oz but how I've ended up with a visa is entirely different! WHAT IS YOU'RE OCCUPATION? I'm curious what can entice you and an employer. In now an accountant and though it's on the skilled occupation list I think they're ten-a-penny and I'm not being made redundant anytime [emoji776] and earn well (sorry to go on about ME ME ME) But it can be stressful Andy I don't spend the money I earn (In fact a huge portion gets put into my pension as I don't need it) I like you have zero kids (that I'm aware of lol ) and which means I don't need much to live on SO if you have the opportunity to try Oz with no ties why wouldn't you try it??? Even if it fails you only have one life. I live in a Rut but I kinda like what I've got (I'm on my own therefore not a risk taker by nature) Hence the huge fight I have in my head on a daily basis. Thanks for your reply
  7. I think it's a well known fact kids grow up to quickly so moving them now and maybe they have to go back a year at school you get to keep them a little longer before they go off to uni or whatever they decide to do, can't be too bad a thing
  8. Thanks Beckfield YES. It was tearing me apart in December as it was decision time. I'm really hoping to get the RRV and after work calms down May/Jun waste some money on a month away on Oz (not a holiday) but a fact finding mission. Check out the jobs, agents, commute, areas to live, rent, cost of living and heat! Maybe a little RnR. [emoji12] then in theory come back have in my notice and just pull my finger out! Or play safe and stay UK. Aside:a friend of mine who's retired lives in Chiang Mai where you can rent a 4bed bungalow with small pool for less than 300£/mth!!! Maybe that's the way to go!! Thanks for all your replies j
  9. Hi Skani thanks for your reply, I very much enjoy Kitesurfing which I tried last year (apparently Essex where I live is the best place for beginners in Europe! Who'd have thought that lol) plus I'm a Padi scuba diver when on holiday only (don't do cold!) Plus thinking of more airborne activities so unlike there UK there could be 52 weeks of the year to do all that in Oz lol..... Or if it's too hot stay in for movie [emoji327] night which I also like. Plus think I'd be looking for temporary work only so could meet people that way too and more of them! Plus I'm there funniest person in there office generally so that might help (but usually not very politically correct haha) Then again I do like my own company too, so looked you said find those clubs! Or get a cat
  10. Cheers chaps. Alas I do like making a rod for my own back and have applied for an RRV. When I told my bosses I'm staying they were Releaved!! But almost straight away after making the decision (such was unbelievably stressful) I immediately felt it was the wrong decision. Anyway long story.i think I'd be quite, no, Very isolated in Oz because I don't have kids (seems to be how people meet) and being 44 in not the usual singleton going out to bars. But if I have the chance to go and no ties to UK (100% true) why wouldn't I go??? And think of it as a Dream so if I don't fit in then just come back (yes to maybe a worse job and who knows what post brexit) but that's the price for Living the Dream.... Or stay in Oz forever if I like it . sorry guys there's alot in my head. The RRV idea is to get a 12mth travel extension then go to Oz for a month to see what I'm missing and to make another decision on it [emoji849] thank you J
  11. The point would be dependent on circumstances. Take this as an example, therefore making the point VERY important: if you have a PR visa granted, visited within the first 12mths as stipulated, the PR visa allows you 5yrs of unlimited travel in/out of Oz. But... Let's say You don't actually migrate/live in Oz by the 5yr deadline.... You've then blown it, you cannot after that time migrate/live in Oz even though you're PR visa is for life as you have to physically be in Oz on that day 5years from grant date. What do you do? You could apply for an RRV, but because you fail there (living in Oz for at least 2yrs of the last 5) you will not get RRV ~ 5yrs BUT if you can prove Substantial Ties you could get granted RRV for 12mths..... Effectively extending the 5yr travel portion to 6yrs..... Get your skates on and Move over to Oz. Another point someone testing this might ask....You don't need to apply for the RRV whilst within the 5yr initial period of you're originally granted PR visa; you can do it anytime after no problemo BUT you will hit another snag.... IF you want to enter Oz over 5yrs since you last left (what dates is that??? It's the date you left when you visited within the first 12mths.... As mentioned above) then you have to write to Immigration and explain yourself.... Then this is out of your control!! (Snag) because they then decide yes/no to entry. THE END Would be curious if anyone understands this better/differently???
  12. I wrote a post this morning on RRV on another Thread.... I'll find it and copy it into here if I can And dinner loose this thread!

  14. If he's been in Oz for ten years why hasn't he applied for CITIZENSHIP?
  15. What is it about Oz that feels like a dream/extended holiday? Or Felt like you didn't belong? I'm eek 44 and could very well embark on a move to Oz this year..... But my 189 5yr expires shortly and of I haven't made the jump already then perhaps my heart/gut/head/something is saying Nah why bother. J
  16. Which tax is higher? UK or Oz? I'm guessing UK
  17. Thanks for putting pen to paper j
  18. yes great to see an update. I've not 'Gen' up on the posts by why people are leaving Oz [yet] curious to understand why? For me, 45 in 2018, single no kids,no family ties, no reason to stay in the UK, educated, qualified with a broad CV BUT still in London area, working long hours in dreary, grey, cold, given more work to do without a payrise [cos the company has let someone go & he didnt want to go so i kop part of his work], savings in the bank, no debts, a rental house............and I'm still hesitating about the jump across the Universe. Sunshine Coast/Brisbane appeals though........J
  19. Bloody heck you sound like me!! Wanting sunshine coast and by May18! Any answers yet from anyone? j
  20. ...you can't. you cant travel there as your 5yr Travel Element has expired. BUT you can extend this Travel Element for 12mths in this example IF you can prove & get awarded RRV Visa155 based on Substantial Ties. [visa157 is only for 3mths not 12mths]
  21. IF as a PR status you have a] not resided in Oz for 2 out of the last 5yrs, b] you currently live outside of Oz......and it can happen on both counts. Then you get to the end of your 5yr period since your original visa was granted....you then have a massive problem if you want to take up residence in Oz....
