Simply apply for the police tests and send them the acknowledgment, book a medical test and inform them of the appointment with evidence. It won’t matter then that the results do not arrive with the time stipulated. You simply need to prove that you have actioned them with the tile limit. Even if your medical appointment is after the 28 days it will be fine. You have no control over appointment availability or processing time and they know this, they just want you to prove you are on with it.

Thank you @rammygirl @Tulip1 I can apply for Police clearance when they arrive here on 20th Dec but concern is that I have to submit my passport to Indian consulate and they are not able to give me timeframe on when will the application be processed. As parents are coming for 2 months, don't want to take risk that its about time for them to leave and they don't have their passport.

I have emailed case officer today requesting if we can do Medical examination here first and then police clearance can be done by them later when reach back in India Feb end. Lets see what he says. Would that be ok?

I know you would say why i want to delay application but to be honest I don't mind couple of months of delay as parents are sorting out few things in India and are not in that hurry to start --living here.

  2. Hi Team I have received request for police clearance and medical for my parents yesterday (12/12/23) after 6 years of application submission date (30/05/07).

I feel the department has sent us request and given us 28 days only to attend to it at a very wrong time (in the middle of christmas holidays). To add to it, parents are coming here on 20th Dec and they would have to get PCC done through consulate in Australia which may take anything from 3 weeks to 4 weeks. Has anyone been in this probilem before.

Should they have given more more considering its in the middle of holidays? Can I respond to case officer to request more time? Thanks

  3. Hi

Which form should I use to update my address (sponsor and the exempt person) as I will be moving soon? Thanks

I filled 956 at the time of application to nominate myself as an exempt person. Will it be the same form to change the address as well? Do I need to fill separate form to change the same as a sponsor?

  4. Hello everyone.. I have recently received email from Immi asking for confirmation if details on my parents 143 application is still current. I think this is just before they will send request next request.

Can anyone advise how much time does Immi give in their request for AoS, medical and police clearance request? Does the letter has any deadline to submit all?

I just checked back on what happened in 2018, when the government increased the income requirement of the sponsor, but backflipped after backlash and petitions from the ethnic communities. At the time, it was going to be implemented on some applications already submitted as well because of the date that they set, eg. applications submitted after........So a lot of those applications would have had to drop out had the government gone through with it. So I'm quite worried that they can do it again, to just change the requirements for applications already submitted.

If they introduce higher fees for existing applicants, there will lot of backlash from 60K applicants. I doubt they will do that but who knows..

Also I am not sure why applicant on non-contributory visa are placed on the top of the list when they change to contributory visa? That's an insult to people who chose to pay extra only to be told an applicant from 10 years ago will be ahead of you in the Queue because he has now decided to pay extra. If I knew this earlier, I would certainly filed my parents application for non contributory visa long time ago.

  7. Has someone written to their local MP about the delays and reduction of number of visas available for parents?

Rather than everyone writing their own letter, wouldn't it benefit if we share the letter with facts and information on forum for each one of us to raise with local MPs? This way there is consistency in putting our case forward. What do you think. Thanks

Yes it’s only approximate as it gives monthly totals so I guess it’s where you are in that particular month. May and June 2017 in particular had huge numbers of applications

Approx 2 years time frame at the time of applying has become 8 years now and Govt. doesn't feel they are answerable??

Welcome back! Not sure if you know but there have been some changes in 143 since June 2018. You’ll get an acknowledgement in next few weeks and then in another 2-3 years they will check your application is valid if not they’ll ask for further info.  Once  validated you will be given a queue date - which will be the date they validated it so a queue date 2-3 years later than application date. Before 1/6/18 the application date was the queue date but now it’s a date 2-3 years after application. Yes it will be a long queue. There were 60000 application already lodged by end Sept 2020 so many more since then and the annual quota has dropped to 3600.

Once borders open your dad could apply for a 5 year 870 visa which would allow him to wait onshore but it’s expensive and has to have private health insurance.  After 5 years he would have to leave and wait offshore for 3 months before he could apply for another 5 year visa. The maximum time spent in Australia is limited to 10 years and sadly even 2 x 870 might not be enough to wait till grant of 143! ! Good luck!

    Hi Linda

Would you know which private health insurance will be best for people on 870 visa once it is available? I know it depends upon your personal health condition and your requirements for cover but just wondering if anyone has explored all options and narrow it down to few companies who provide best cover? Thanks

I might think of 870 visa if it is going to take 4 more yrs (applied 30 may 2017) which seems to be the case.

Bit of a strange question. Might as well ask people who applied in 2015 when it was 12-18 months and ended up being nearly 4 years whether they would still do it - of course they would ! No one can see the future - we would all be very rich if we could!! Im 4 years now  in queue from 2017 - doubt it will take me another 6 years!! Maybe another 3 years dependant on how many have left the queue due to refusals, deaths, illnesses, dependants now too old or just withdrawn due to no longer wanting to go because children have returned to the home country etc etc or even if whichever government in charge in next few years changed their view on immigration and increased the quota. We all knew how much it would be when we applied as well. What we didn’t know,  was how misleading the website was  Any wait time they quote quite clearly refers to the ones they are currently processing - not new applications!

I’ve  waited 4 years already  - I’m not throwing that wait time away,  I just get on with my life in the meantime.

    Would you still have applied??

Very true Linda. I always read your posts actively. Thanks for sharing your insight and keeping everyone updated.

I have applied for my parents on 30 May 2017 so we should hear next about the same time it seems.

From my understanding, any changes will apply to new applications only. That explains why so many people rushed to make applications in May/June 2017 when they were afraid that VAC would increase soon.

Thanks hawkeye10. I would imagine the same unless govt. comes up with some excuse to apply increased charges to existing applicants.

I just really wish that immi and migration agents would tell prospective new applicants about the “real” potential wait times! I really hate it when I see posts that say “we’ve just applied and we will be there in 3-4 years!”

I actually think there may be some changes from the Senate enquiry - and I don’t think it will be reasonably good news.  Im probably wrong  - but I think they will attempt to stop the non contributory 804 parent visa - it’s now taking up to 30 years but the applicants are onshore on bridging visas and those from countries with reciprocal health care agreements  are costing the govt money in terms of using Medicare, public hospitals  and prescriptions etc and because they are classed as temporary residents,  any tax they pay on their income is being paid to their own countries and not to Australia. They’ve tried once before but it didn’t get through but other reviews since then have recommended it be stopped. The last review in 2016 had 4 recommendations

    a) reduce the annual quotas

    b) introduce a paid long term temporary visa

    c) stop 804 except for very specific compassionate reasons

    d) increase the charges for the visas

The first two have actually happened! The last one is one of the reasons so many applied in May/June 2017 as they thought or were told about the possibility of the charges being hugely increased so rushed to get them in before the new financial year started.

Any guesses on whether C & D options will happen this time ?? Im not even going to try and guess what they will say about the backlog that is the biggest for 25 years!!

Keep on keeping on !! 😊

Hi @LindaH27 or anyone who can assist - If they do increase 2nd VAC charges, will the increase only apply to new applications or they can still charge exponential increased fees for existing application in progress? I applied for my parents in May 2017.

You are free to leave but once 5 years is up you will need to request a resident return visa to travel outside Australia. Be mindful though that if you hadn’t actually made the move over and were still living those 5 years in your home country you would have to show strong ties to Australia to qualify for a RRV.

Is there a rule about number of years you have to live in Australia within first 5 years to be able  to maintain your residency status? My parents enjoy living overseas and would come and live here only if their health deteriorates. Thanks

I’m happy to share our experience with you.

We had our Form 80’s ready several months before hearing from Immi. We completed them online using the PDF forms, then printed and scanned them ready for emailing to Immi.

You can’t book medicals until you hear from Immi. With the email you’ll receive from Immi you will get a HAP number to use when you arrange the medical appointment. Depending on where you are you might get a quick appointment.

Our UK Police Check took around two weeks. The certificate will be posted to you, it won’t be emailed. You scan the certificate and email it to Immi.

Our daughter is our sponsor. She completed the AoS application online through her MyGov account.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Good luck!

Thank you very much @David Leask . I think Form 80 is for each person included in the application?

With the police clearance, do we need one for each country you visited? My parents reside in India but have been to USA (more than 10 years ago), UAE (recent 1 week trip) and Australia.

    Can anyone tell us please?

    1. When can we expect CO call to submit docs & medical test??  (CPV 143 apply & acknowledge in Feb-16)

    2. PCC more than 2 year will be accepted by CO?? we have never visited these countries after PCC were issued.

    Hi Greece

I think David Leask and LindaH27 have already answered your question before.

    1.  "It will be at least 3.5 years from your lodgement date, if not longer, before you hear anything."

    2. "As far as PCC is concerned again I suspect immi will want something for the 12 months prior to actual processing. "

We had this, applicants with lodgement dates after ours being invited to submit docs months before we were... When we queried it we were told not to worry visas were issued IN STRICT LODGEMENT DATE ORDER.....we knew this wasn't so, but try telling them that. It stands to reason anyone who already has the required docs in place are going to be sorted  quicker.... It was someones bright idea to speed up the process but it didn't work in everyone favour.  And remember probably not "all" applicants that applied in August 2015 received invitations..... there are many thousands of applicants and not all of them are on this forum.

Hi @Ray and Geri As per your signature, alot happened just in span of few days (Between 24th Apr 18 and 2nd May 18). Can you please shed some light how it was possible.

Did you had your Form 80 ready already? Did you send completed From 80 by email?

Again how was medical already booked for 25th Apr?

How long Police certificate take? Was it sent to you to be emailed/posted to Immigration dept or sent directly to immigration?

    Was AoS submitted online?

    @amsaini15

$2000 per month Is this a correct figure? I pay around $325 (which recently got increased from $288) for my in-laws per month with Bupa Standard Visitors Cover

    @Anks

My parents are on 'Top Visitor Cover with Excess' plan since 2012. They have increased premium drastically every year to come to $2K each month from April. The only benefit is that I am able to suspend policy for 9 months when parents are not here.

'Standard Plus Visitor' cover has Restricted cardiac related services which is not suitable for my father as he has got stents. Apart from missing this, I still think this cover will involve significant out of pocket expenses if used for other services.

Hence I am interested in knowing what policy are others choosing which cover all major issues like cardiac.

I have just applied for CPV 143 little over a month before you. Let's keep checking with each other on progress.

Do you think the Government can increase visa fees for an applicant already in the queue for 143 or the new fees can only apply to new applicants?

Also my parents have 600 visa granted in Feb 2017. Do you think it will be a good idea to reapply for another 3 years considering there is a possibility this visa may not be available for parents anymore? Are we able to apply for this visa after 2 yrs of visa grant rather than wait for expiry? Thanks

Does anyone know which health insurer provides medical cover for parents on this new subclass 870 Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa? Thanks

I have insurance for my parents with Bupa but it is very expensive (recent increase takes it to $2000 per month). Interested in knowing which insurance others are are choosing.
