  1. Hi Kirsty I wanted to ask a further question about shipping. We are planning to sell the flat by August and then get the majority of our stuff sent over then. However, we will be in London all of September and some of December. Is it possible to just get a suitcase sent over? What is the best way of doing this? The reason I ask is because we are travelling Sep-dec and end of dec-march so will need a few bits and pieces i.e. winter clothes etc when we are back…..
  2. Thanks for the replies everyone. First he tried the solicitors and they said they don't notarise foreign documents, so went to the post offie who also wouldn't do it. Phoned solicitors again for advice and weren't helpful. Called the embassy who said NOT to use the 888 form but just to do written declarations which are signed by him and attach a colour copy of his passport! So annoyingly confusing.
  3. If you are not an Australian citizen or permanent resident and you reside outside Australia, your statement cannot be considered a statutory declaration under Australian law, even if it is made using this form or the template provided by the Attorney-General’s Department. However, under policy, your statement should be witnessed or certified according to the legal practices of the country in which you make the statement. Failing that, it should be witnessed by a person whose occupation or qualification is comparable to those listed above. This person should sign, date and specify their occupation at the bottom of the statement." Is what it says on the 888 form
  4. No they both live here in the UK.
  5. Thanks I will go with the post office….
  6. Thanks - I didn't think this was accepted though for offshore?
  7. We are having problems getting form 888 certified from one of our statement writers - can anyone help with this? Apparently the solicitors are saying they don't witness foreign documents??
  8. East coast of Thailand will be better in August as the weather is dryer. Saying that, we have been in Phuket and West Malaysian Islands before in August and it was hot, but you tend to get a daily downpour.
  9. We are just waiting for our family/friends to complete their statements and get them notarised - seems like the biggest hassle out of everything!!!!
  10. yikes it does sound tough! I wish you luck and I think I may try to look elsewhere first
  11. Thats my thing, there is no point in doing all the paperwork if I am not guaranteed to get a job at the end of it. I know a few teachers in Melbourne, and they have really struggled to get part time/temporary work let alone a permanent role, and they're English teachers too. I just don't want to put myself through the process if there is such a low demand for high school teachers, especially with subjects like mine.
  12. Thanks everyone some good options to check out!
  13. Hi there, We are moving to Melbourne from London at the start of next year. I have been teaching in London since 2002 in secondary schools - mainly German initially then German and Media and more recently just as Head of Media. I am really torn on teaching in Australia, as reading these forum posts its sounding increasingly more like a pain in the arse. Plus, I don't think my subjects are exactly shortage!! Is it really oversubscribed over there for high school teachers? Should I bother even trying to get my qualifications adapted? (BA Hons in German - 4 years and secondary PGCE)
  14. When you click on the medial bit on the visa application and fill in the health questionnaire it generates a letter for you to take to the doctor. On the top right is a barcode and underneath says HAP and a number….thats your ID
  15. No but real life is in the UK….we have had around 3 people shot dead, 2 stabbed and one killed by a hammer in the past 2 weeks here in my area alone. Stuff happens everywhere, but not usually to random people.
  16. My medical form says this too and I got really excitedBUT we arent married and we have only been de facto for 2.5 years??
  17. Thanks, they're just bog standard bikes so it may be worth selling them to save space….its not as if we use them regularly either!
  18. We are looking at sending most of our things over to Australia in August this year, even though we probably won't be moving until Jan 2017. They will be stored at my partners brothers house…. Can anyone recommend how to get this stuff over there? We aren't taking any furniture but we will have things such as: extra clothes, shoes etc kitchen equipment books small electrical equipment possible two bikes I am guessing in terms of moving boxes, we will have around 10?
  19. ALso, on my medical letter is says 100 (permanent) and not 309 - is that a sign or does it always say that???
  20. They must be busy in London, I have already had a request for the medical and we only submitted the application 9 days ago! Or is that normal?
  21. Nah I'm done with teaching and living in London around half of my wage was going on mortgage payments! If I leave in Summer I still get paid until September....and it means selling the flat is less stressful as I'll be on summer hols too
  22. Next year sometime, hopefully February at the latest….will be off travelling and sofa surfing in between.
