  1. All our family and friend signed/signing petition. Up to over 90k signatures this morning Kim
  2. Thanks fisher1. Unfortunately you now have to have 2 years tax returns plus latest 2 pay slips to verify and appears now won’t accept anything less
  3. Ditto ditto and ditto. We wished gone straight for 143 but money just wouldn’t work to it. Since granted 173 we have lived and worked here full time. We applied after about 18 months as soon as we knew money was in the bank to do it. We applied whilst in Australia and can be granted on shore Really has been a ‘ducking and diving’ experience as haven’t sold house back in uk and so haven’t got a lot of equity to access but we have managed. I was horrified to see waiting time gone from 3 months to over a year when we applied to convert. I get the new way for aos - I think. It’s just circumstances has turned our ‘that’s all covered’ in terms of requirements for aos to ‘OMG’ what are we going to do. My girls are on maternity leave, and one hubby is assurer for his parents etc etc. They are only so many people you can go to for such a big commitment. Our bad luck that whos available just doesn’t work even with 3 assurers because partners have to be included. Worst thing is in June we have to go onti bridging visas which gives you same rights but not really - as a contractor my husband is ignored as they see temp visa and don’t understand who it works. My son who came with us on application tried to buy a car yesterday and was rejected as 173 runs out in June and he wanted small loan to be able to afford it. Medicare is cancelled from June and we gave to go back on reciprocal etc etc - and to think we could be 6 + months at least on bridging us nightmare. We have to pay to swop to b type of bridging as given a type which means you can leave Australia but then can’t return until 143 granted. B type let’s you travel and return which we have to pay to switch but need as mother in law very very ill and we will need to go back to uk most likely with little notice. Hopefully my rant has been useful in some way Kim
  4. Hi guys. We were granted our 173 in June 2016 and decided to plough on with the convert to 143 as soon as we could and thank goodness we did! After suffering so much stress and anguish getting 173 we decided to engage Alan from Go Matilda for this stage. First shock was the increase in time for 173 to 143 and now the AOS fiasco. Family scenario at the moment leaves us rooting around trying to find assurers who earn loads of dosh. I have contemplated going on Airtasker to see if I could secure an assurer!!! To do this without warning and such a hike is downright disgusting. Visa applicants should not be subjected to massive changes once they have applied and half way through the process. I have traveled through all the info re AOS snd can’t find answer to this query which is if we have an assurer who has a partner who is not an assurer then we have to account for partner in calculations - get that’s ok however query is can then the combined income of assurer and partner be included in total income figure for AOS purposes. It seems unfair to assume the assurer has be responsible for partner as part of their income amount who may well be earning a sizeable amount. Welcome any info re this. Lovely reading comments and seeing names who were behind us now reached the door and shuffled out into the warm autumn in Australia. For those still trapped in the dreaded waiting room I totally feel for you guys and trust me will all be worth it I now have total of 3 grandchildren aged 3 months to 6 years here and love being the unpaid on call 24/7 ‘grandma’ kim
  5. Thanks Susieroo. We were actually granted 173 in June 2017 and due to convert this June. Have decided to leap now and convert as seems so much upheaval in visas and just felt insecure about leaving for the full 2 years. I personally found the 173 application process a complete nightmare for so many reasons. I was on this forum nearly everyday back then and honestly it was a rock I could not have survived without. However, it was absolutely worth every penny and pound of flesh as life is wonderful here in hot Newport on the northern beaches Sydney. I have acquired a new grandson plus second granddaughter due any minute now also gained a wonderful Oz son in law and my youngest son just got engaged to his lovely Oz girlfriend so we are truly integrating. I still can’t say ‘stralya’ like an Oz yet so apparently I’m still a Pom until I can xkx
  6. Hi Guys - old timer here who got out of waiting room 18 months ago on a 173. Now starting ball rolling for converting to 143. Getting the 173 was most stress I have ever experienced and getting panic attack’s just thinking about picking up application form. My question is has anyone used or heard about using an agent to convert 173 to 143 and any info on cost etc. Might even consider selling my spare kidney to pay if necessary!!!
  7. You have to laugh - likely cry otherwise - immi says they will be even slower than usual - any slower and they will be going backwards!!!
  8. Whoop whoop @AlanSteel. Soooooo happy for you both - keep us posted Kim
  9. Skeelsy update from a warming up Northern Beaches after a polar blast. After just one full week at work my husband is already saying darta for data and prooooo ject. Had calamities last week with Coles home delivery - lorry got stuck in small lane we live in after overshooting down our steep drive then blocking all our neighbours in overnight as too slippery to move in the dark -ooops. On life time ban for home delivery by Coles so tried Click & Collect - not bad apart from they gave one of our bags of shopping to another customer!!!! I am suffering with another bug - our GP warned us when we arrived that it takes 5 years to acclimatise to the local bugs - its been 4 years so hopefully getting there. We have our NSW drivers licence with dodgy photos taken at the centre and passed the eye test they gave us. Health insurance was sorted until I read through again and realised not what we really wanted so luckily 30 days cooling allowed so back to drawing board. Was looking to start process of buying property here but with brexit going to leave money in uk until better exchange etc. Luckily the owners we rent from have 5 year work contract in usa so wont be coming back any time soon so we have breathing space. Thats about it and I'm off to do battle with the black mould in the bathrooms -the pesky little blighters keep sneaking back Kim
  10. I agree with @juliew1499. Recommend Parramatta if more convenient than central Sydney - they were amazingly organised Kim
  11. hi @Wishfull. Glad I am not the only trawling through data - pronounced darta Australian style. My assumption regarding your point re doubling is either another error or if you read terminology it swops from lodgements to applications - if I remember correctly - this change I assumed meant it swopped from number of applications regardless of people included to actual number of people. I also considered it was including Martians who are being fast tracked for the secret Martian work population in Australia!!! Congrats re news of family addition. Our gorgeous grandchildren are nearly 5 and 1 now. I am just off to do babysitting stint today and love it. I did hear somewhere there is going to be a new temporary visitor visa giving longer time that can be spent in Australia so highly recommend biting the bullet and moving out early - we did - logistical nightmare at times - but absolutely worth it. Kim
  12. Knowing number of applications is not that useful as like myself our one application required 3 places whilst other application only one. If you go to immi site and look under publications is a section of yearly stats reports. Towards the back is a section on parent visa stats - unfortunately stats are incorrect - different stats quoted in the yearly publications plus comparison difficult as they switch types ie from number of applications to total number of actual people applying - mathematical nightmare. My overall conclusions was there is a steady decline of applicants with sharp raised blips at various points that have lead to backlog. Interestingly they don't record number of 'jumpers' from non to contributory who get priority - rightly so - due to their waiting time in non contributory queue. Recent 'stints' like closing non contributory has provided 'conveniently' additional applicants to shore up decline of contributory applicants. Kim
  13. can I highlight point that PVC does read this regularly - trust me I know!!!! Keep in mind when discussing stuff on here Kim
  14. Packed hubby off to first day at work today wearing proper clothes - he did have small printed luminous palm trees on his black socks as small token of 'oz style'. @AlanSteel be aware of the likelihood of protracted background checks here re work as hoping not long before you march through that door now Kim
  15. Thanks. I actually only have vague recollections of life before visa lodged at moment!! Now it's happened it's surreal I keep pinching myself as still feel 'what could go wrong' - despite bruised arm from the self inflicted pinches I feel we sooooooo did the right thing and all worth it. Highlight of my day today is sussing 'allowable deductions and tax offsets' as year end and doing my sons tax return as he has a vacant look on his face as what to do. Have set up my.gov.com and linked Medicare and Centrelink and ato on it so progress made. Kim
  16. Expensive though. We are in Newport overlooking Pittwater and enjoy views everyday. I am going back to uk in sept for first time in 3 and half years - interesting to see how I feel about it when I get ther Kim
  17. And there was me thinking I will have so much more time now I am not visa-bound anymore - now bogged down with private health insurance options, super decisions, to salary sacrifice or not salary sacrifice, tax allowable deductions/offsets???? TFN set up and list goes over several pages plus down on uk income by 10%. However, being close to these two gorgeous grandchildren makes it all worth while.
  18. Thanks everybody for your support - my son and SOH in their new oz shirts and us celebrating on hot tub beach with champers. Back HOME now and our new life is certain now. Happiness all round. Will be watching out for those following us and it's WORTH the stress Kim
  19. What a difference a week can make. Immi asks us can we pay and leave immediately. We clear our bank account paying 2nd vacs and flights to NZ last night and today we are estactic to say all 3 of us were granted. We are soooooo happy Kim
  20. GOOD LUCK Alan. Sun shining here in Sydneyside but need a Cardie so must be under 25 degrees. Australian Language lesson No 1 shorts are boardies, t-shirt are tees, you wear a rash on the beach - long sleeve uv protection top, trousers are pants for girls and boys - yuk, Girls - purse is your handbag and your purse is a wallet thongs are flip flops NZ call them jaggles,
