  1. Social media says an applicant with mid April 2017 date has been contacted for further details. There seems to be no “strictly according to queue date “ going on at present. Some in March 2017 have been granted whilst some in January 2017 are still waiting for contact ! it’s impossible to know how they are dealing with the date orders except if someone had changed from 103 to 143 and would go straight to the top of the queue as they keep their original queue date. Every date after 2012 which is what they’re currently processing would jump ahead
  2. Was she in Australia on 24 March 2021 and had had continuous stay since then? If not the concession for bridging visa will not be valid. She will have to leave Australia for a few days then come back in to validate 143 when it’s ready for grant. Most fly out to Bali, Fiji or NZ.
  3. Could reduce for any number of reasons. People could have died, withdrawn and changed to 804/864, or I’m aware of at least 2 applications that were withdrawn when finally being contacted because they felt they were too old, the grandkids had grown up or they felt settled where they were with good friends etc. Conversely the queue could grow. There are special provisions for certain groups to jump the queue ,eg , 103 changing to 143 as they retain their original queue date (immi are only processing 103 for 2012 applications I believe, so everybody after that date would jump straight to the top of the 143 queue if they changed over! And I’ve seen posts where a lot are doing that ) . Ukrainian refugees, old retirees on 405 /410 visas, ministerial intervention etc. The queue is not static in other words. The numbers rise and fall all the time. The projected rise in fees never actually happened either so people may just still go ahead
  4. Don’t think so. I read it as the 143 quota needs to be increased as the wait time for newer applicants has exceeded the 10 years that 870 allows. No point in increasing the number of 870s if they stick at the 10 year mark. So either increase the 143 quota or lengthen the maximum time allowed in Australia on 870
  5. Medical insurance for temporary visas will cost more for health insurance as you age and develop more problems. Medicare is struggling and lots of GPs are moving away from bill billing and charging for appointments. I doubt you will find cheaper. They know older people tend to develop more problems and need more medications etc I’ve known people on BUPA in UK whose premiums jumped from £ 173 pm to £569 when they got to 65!
  6. Unfortunately the age of the dependant under the rules from 19 November 2016 is under 23 years at the time of decision of grant The only exception to the rule is as you said, physical or mental disability. There have been posts on social media where the dependant has been refused and agents have confirmed this is the correct procedure. Immi do request further info for the dependant and this raises hope but it is usually just to check if there's any disability etc Laws are set and do not change just because of circumstances that could not have been foreseen at the time they became law.
  7. Australia Home Affairs have updated their website. For anyone lodging a 143 visa now they have quoted - ‘We estimate new Contributory Parent visa applications lodged that meet the criteria to be queued are likely to take at least 12 years to be released for final processing’
  8. I think it’s likely to be even Longer!! Many of us here were told 18-24 months for applications lodged around 2016-2017 - they’re currently taking around 6 years!!
  9. Thank you Alan. From a brief reading it seems it’s all means tested. However I can’t see anything that says it’s visa dependent. It simply says eligibility is based on care needs. It would be grossly unfair if living on a bridging visa for 804 means it can be accessed but not if on a paid for 143 grant for 10 years after ??
  10. @Alan Collett I assume it’s still means tested though? If it’s available to people on 804 can it also be accessed on 143 even if person has not resided in Australia for 10 years - I’d assumed it came under the ban on claiming any benefits for 10 years after grant?
  11. There’s also 884 , the onshore equivalent of 173. There is no individual subclass quota- it depends on date order in the two queues, the contributory (173,143, 884 & 864 ) and the non contributory (103 and 804) Also of the 8500 total, 125 places are reserved for people transferring to permanent parent visas from the old 410 and 405 retirement visas which are no longer available. There are also people transferring from 103 visas to 143 who keep their original lodgement date when they transfer and jump straight to the front of the queue. Immi are are currently dealing with 103 applications with a queue date of 2012 (I think) so any transfers from 103 after that date go to the front of the queue - and I believe there have been quite a few of those recently ! There are also applications from Ukrainians which are prioritised too due to the war and those who are given the visas under Ministerial intervention Aldo this financial year they started with applications dated from May 2016 - these had been stuck for two years until the new govt increased the quota - so from May 2016 and not August 2016 as you suggested Its therefore impossible to second guess whether immi have already reached their quota but it appears likely
  12. They can claim UK pension and if they apply for Australian pension they would be expected to claim UK pension if they hadn’t already done so to reduce the burden in Australia taxpayers. It would be taken into account. I believe they lose 50c in the dollar of the Australian pension when they take UK pension into account. UK pension will be frozen at the rate when they leave UK to live in Australia. Parent would need 35 years contributions to get full rate UK pension. Less than that but more than 10 years would give a reduced rate of pension. Australian pension doesn’t require contributions but means testing everything / all your assets whatever they are although there are some exemptions.
  13. It’s info acquired by @Alan Collett as a freedom of information Request to home affairs. I believe there may be a later update in numbers but am unable to find it at present. The info I used is here https://www.gm-parent-visas.com/contributory-parent-visa-application-numbers-updated/
  14. Possibly but there’s a few posts around on various forums from migration agents who feel that March 2017 is as far as it will go this financial year given the numbers in the queue. It’s gone from being stuck in May 2016 for two years to March 2017 just since the new Gov came in so they’ve probably reached the quota given and are just processing/finalising those
  15. March 2017 but I haven’t seen many posts saying they’re being asked for further docs. It’s therefore very possible that they’ve reached the quota for the year and won’t grant any more until the start of the next financial year in July 2023
  16. You would have to pay FIRB $13200 just for permission to buy if you go for the non contributory visa with bridging visa plus the extra stamp duty.as would be classed as a temporary foreign resident. You don’t have to pay this if you are granted a contributory visa then purchase a home but yes it’s around 10 years and a lot of money on fees plus the Assurance of Support (.$14k for 2 people) is about right waiting for contributory grant.
  17. Care homes fees /in home care are definitely NOT always paid for by UK govt unless for truly exceptional needs - weekly care home costs are often in excess of £1000!! Once any funds from savings, sale of house are exhausted they do step in but you wouldn’t get a choice of home - it would be the cheapest. I doubt Australian govt will pay the full costs either , likely to be means tested. Couldn’t claim Australian pension for ten years and It’s also means tested. You as sponsor promised to support them. Should parent need income support before 10 years they could claim but Centrelink will take that money from the $10k Assurance of Support you have to pay before grant and you wouldn’t get anything back after the 10 years it’s held for . Australia is more expensive than UK for most things so their pension won’t go as far there as it would in UK. Prescriptions and Medicines are free for over 60s in UK but would have to pay in Australia and most older people are on a Variety of medication. Ive also see many posts where pensioners are returning home to UK because they cannot live on their frozen UK pension Unfortunately this is why Australian govt are not keen on letting many elderly parents in - because of the costs to Australian taxpayers.
  18. Not able to have seniors card according to this https://www.wa.gov.au/service/community-services/grants-and-subsidies/apply-wa-seniors-card
  19. It is actually only correct up to August 2021 - it will not work after that. But that shows around 8 years for an August 2021 application. Did you amend from 3500 visas being processed. ? Immi are already asking March 2017 applicants for further details
  20. Hopefully Alan will advise but I recall he suggested you had to make plans 6-12 months before end date of 870. I’m guessing it might be hard to avoid 8503 - immi would know you’d had 870 therefore potentially wanting another ? It would be best to contact @Alan Collett directly as he understands the migration laws.
  21. Approx 10 years unless annual quota is increased further. There’s around 78,000 in queue already waiting and approx 7500-8000 grants per year
  22. 864 is in same queue as 143 so will take the same time. They were being processed earlier than 143 and had reached February 2017 a couple of years ago. Immi realised (or someone complained?) so all 864 applications made after February 2017 were put on hold until 143 grants reached the same date. They will then both move forward in same queue in date order.

  24. I don’t understand it myself as I’m aware that there are still People from September 2016 onwards who are still waiting !
