  1. Sorry Alan I’m aware that 143 is a paper visa but as my paper application had my new address on I was wondering if they could have used my old address from my immi account which has all my previous tourist visa applications on. For some reason I thought visa staff could see my immi account especially as there is now the proviso to pay the second vac electronically. ? Although my old address would show on my application too I guess but that just proves you need to double check everything! yes I was puzzled by the queue number as well. The poster specifically said a 143 visa and the whole thread was about 143 visa questions on timelines etc . Which is why I asked on here as this seems to be the best forum around for parent visas - and believe me Ive looked at quite a few! AMP as usual Alan has given the definitive answer! ?
  2. Taken from www.australiaforum.com!! Anybody here ever been given a queue number? ?? Jan 24, 2018 · #5 I recently submitted my 143 visa request and was notified I'm position 3473 in the queue. Any estimate of how long this process will take?
  3. Regarding the efficiency or otherwise of processing staff ... I moved house April 2016 and changed my address on my immi account as well as everywhere else. In June 2017 I applied for my 143. When the emailed receipt and acknowledgment were received I noticed it was still showing my old address ! Checked on immi my new address was there and it was on my CPV143 too. My daughter spent 45 mins on the phone waiting to get through. The girl who answered eventually said she could see my new address quite clearly on her screen and didn’t have a clue why the emails showed my old address! Let’s hope nothing else goes wrong - it wasn’t a good start and shows the importance of double checking everything !!
  4. Wow you’re ahead of the game if you lodged 9 April 2015 and already have AOS acceptance when immi say they’re only processing March 31st! I notice you are heading to NSW - I wonder if different areas process things more quickly?
  5. Just did a check on transferwise vs currency fair. Sending £2000 gets you in the end $3547.94 with transferwise and $3546 with currency fair so very little difference - $1.94!
  6. I've just looked at Currency fair to compare with Transferwise and the website said this Typical Bank Transfer amount £ 2,000.00 Transfer amount £ 2,000.00 International transfer fees £ 2.50 International transfer fees £ 40.00 Exchange rate margin £ 6.00 Exchange rate margin £ 60.00 Total cost of transaction £ 8.50 Total cost of transaction £ 100.00 On average you pay just 0.4% of the amount exchanged plus a €3 (or currency equivalent) transfer Transfer wise would charge £9.96 total fees so approx £1.50 more on £2000 transfer
  7. Catlady Please could you pm me the company name too? I’ve just transferred some via my bank and got a really shoddy deal ?
  8. Or this https://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/holiday-money/ http://www.mycurrencytransfer.com/money-transfer-to-Australia/2000-GBP Or this one give reviews on best companies https://moneytransfercomparison.com/
  9. Any good ? https://www.money.co.uk/money-transfers/money-transfer-to-australia.htm
  10. From what I can gather retirement investors have no access to Medicare and have private medical insurance so it would come down to whether the doctors were happy you fit the criteria for Medicare. I do hope everything goes ok for you both - as Catlady says - at our ages we are more likely to have problems. !! It's one of my concerns too especially as I have probably another 2+ years to wait and obviously getting older all the time! Maybe seek professional advice? Good luck !
  11. Just done the test email and date hasnt moved! Still assessing at date 26 February 2015! This at least is new I think ?? NEW ONLINE PAYMENT OPTION IN IMMIACCOUNT You can make a payment for a paper application prior to lodgement or pay an invoice for a visa yourself via ImmiAccounthttp://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa/Immi You must either have or create your own ImmiAccount. Once the payment is made, you can attach a copy of your receipt to your application.
  12. Thanks Ian! Didn't know Australian banks had a sterling account as well. So i f I get money from ATM with clarity card then go online and pay it off same day there's no interest ? What about non sterling transaction exchange fee? Also I thought Clarity card was a credit card and was always told withdrawing money on a credit card was a really bad idea !! Happy to be proved wrong!!
  13. Can I ask how you all transfer money for your visits . Have a bank account over there but trying to find a way that doesn't cost the earth. Don't want to bad mouth but had a bad experience with a currency firm. Apparently they couldn't verify my address - even though I'd lived there for 33 years!! The other problem is that as I wear two hearing aids I find it very dfficult on the phone and trying to find a firm that is prepared to text me instead.
  14. Oh Lord - let's hope Im still here and fit enough! Of to Sydney in December for three months. Daughter hits 40th birthday in January and Im 67 the day after - the glory days of 2 year applications are fast receding!
  15. Daughter in Australia has really nice Nissan X trail - costs her in dollars what I would have to pay in pounds!! Prices seem much cheaper over there. On another note I do hope Immi get their act together as the surge in 2016 applications seems to imply my 2017 application could take a very very long time ! - but very pleased that the 2015 applicants are starting to get through
  16. hi New member and learning so much from this forum. Had intended to apply for 143 back in 2015 but as daughter went on maternity leave and therefore less money we thought we would have to leave it till she was back at work for a while. Wish I had known they would have accepted her past years salary! Finally put application in June 2017 so a long way to go and feel somewhat downhearted but you all seem very supportive and I hope to learn much more!
  17. Hi I'm considering flying from Manchester to Sydney in October with Etihad as my daughter there is expecting her first baby. I'm 64 years old with some mobility problems and will be flying alone. I use a stick but would need a wheelchair at Manchester airport Abu Dhabi and Sydney airports as it's too far to walk but could climb a few stairs to the plane if necessary and am able to move about the plane myself. I'm also hearing impaired. I will be flying business class. Is it possible to book a wheelchair for all these travel points and is there a charge? Also could the cabin crew be alerted to my hearing problems as I don't hear announcements etc.? I had a bad experience with another airline (wheelchair didn't turn up and nearly missed my connection) which put me off going again but as it's her first baby my daughter would like me there and Im trying to get the courage up to go again! Thanks for any help you could give Linda
  18. Thanks Bungo, according to immi website you can apply for 143 onshore but wasn't sure about bring able to travel. Thanks for your help
  19. Thought I'd put up a new post as I've spent hours trawling through previous posts and not really found what I'm looking for so apologies if the answer is in there somewhere ! I currently hold 600 tourist visa valid for visits of up to 6 months for a year, ends June 2016. My daughter is having her first baby and Im going over in October for four months. I will be 65 in January 2016 just before I leave Australia but as flights aren't finalised I could stay a little longer. 1. Can I apply for CPV 143 whilst I'm there? And still travel back and forth to Oz whilst visa is being processed? 2. If I applied for CPAV onshore instead once I reach 65 I understand I could stay there as they would give me a bridging visa A. But I would probably have to return home to sort out the house etc. so, does the bridging visa take effect when my tourist visa runs out in June 2016 meaning I could leave and return before that time having sorted things out? If not I believe I would have to apply for Bridging visa B but it says it needs a substantial reason - is sorting out house and financial affairs covered under that.? 3. Is the CPAV processing time any quicker than the CPV? I believe the cost is the same ? 4. Could I have the medicals in Australia? I will meet the Balance of family test and have the funds to pay for the contributory visa and I'm also a widow so no partner. thanks for any help!!
