  1. Yes there’s one on this forum who’s been asked for further docs for 173 with date May 2017! Scoll through and find it
  2. As always 143 can be applied for on or offshore. As the holder of 173 is already onshore they have two years in which to upgrade to 143. They are not expected to leave in order to apply for 143. According to immi they can use that time to work and save up for the upgrade to 143. If the time is approaching the end of 173 the bridging visa keeps them lawful. It’s always been a two step process.
  3. We are not allowed to link to other social media but it’s the very big one!
  4. According to social media some dates in March 2017 have been requested for further docs
  5. The latest I’ve heard about on social media is March 2017. To hear about a May 2017 application really doesn’t seem right. 864 were incorrectly being granted early so were placed on hold until 143 reached the same date that they had reached which was February 2017.
  6. He can make an application to upgrade to 143 at any time before the two years is up - even straightaway after grant of 173- so yes he can apply in Australia whilst on the 173 and can therefore remain in Australia until 143 is granted. . Currently it appears to only take around 6 months to upgrade. However getting the 173 will take time as it’s in the same queue as 143 so there’s no point in doing it that way because it will take longer and cost more than just going directly for 143 so best to go straight for 143 - or 804 /864 if old enough.
  7. That’s good. If he was 23 now they would refuse but you should be ok. Hopefully others will hear soon too v
  8. This is incorrect. You CAN apply onshore for 143 you just don’t get a bridging visa to stay.
  9. How old is your brother now? His age now could affect the outcome So you applied in May 2017 - I haven’t heard of Anyone with a date that late. They’re mostly February and March 2017
  10. It’s the date you applied and lodged not the acknowledgment date. Still being asked for health checks and police checks. Don’t think it was ever stopped as it’s very important. Its likely you won’t hear anything until after next June 2023 - ie the next financial year. Depends how far in May you applied as May and June had 9000 applications! For a rough idea try here and change the amount of visas being processed to about 7500 https://www.gm-parent-visas.com/visa-processing-time-calculator/
  11. They’ve already asked someone with an application date of 24 January 2017 for 143 for further docs so the queue has moved on from September information
  12. Wish it was ! Sadly I’m stuck in June 2017 with the 9k applications!! it’s going to take 12 months plus to get through those two months alone unfortunately unless next years budget is further increased to take account of that massive number and allow the queue to progress for those afterwards. But I really am so pleased it’s finally moving for everybody’s sake as it’s been hard for many who believed the website’s info about projected wait times !! I still get the odd one or two accusing me of making it up about the long wait why would I when I’m stuck in the same queue??
  13. Many congratulations!! So pleased the wait is nearly over for you. Please keep us informed of your timeline as you progress.
  14. I’m a bit unsure of when it takes effect from. It’s “4500 from 21-22 then 8000 in this year” . Is this in this year or year 22-23? Any ideas of how the split could be between contributory and non contributory??
  15. No it was announced by the current immigration minister!! https://minister.homeaffairs.gov.au/AndrewGiles/Pages/australias-migration-future.aspx The old govt increased the quota to 6000 in their last budget. The extra 35000 for skilled migration was introduced by the new govt Yes numbers could change in this budget but there’s currently a review into all visas going on (set up by current govt) which will report in February 2023 so we might not hear anything about parent visas till then - they could potentially call a halt to visas like 103 and 804 because their waiting time is increasing to about 40 years now and they're not financially viable for the govt
  16. I’m afraid that’s old news and if you read it carefully all the places are for skilled visas - not parent visas unfortunately. Hopefully there will be better news in the budget
  17. It’s thought that this year’s quota will possibly get to January/February 2017 by end of financial year in June 2023. So it’s possible you could be contacted in financial year 2023-24 However the rules changed in November 2016 concerning dependants. They have to be under 23 years old at the time of decision. This may impact on your case depending on the age of your brother by then.
  18. And yet nothing for parent visas except an increase in (supposed) processing times from 67 months to 73!
  19. @Jen 07/01/2017 it’s not Covid that’s caused the problem of long wait times. The previous govt cut the annual quota in half a couple of years ago. It used to be approx 7200 grants per year and they reduced it to 3600 which obviously increased the wait times
  20. It’s unlikely he will get the grant. The rules changed in November 2016 to say that dependants have to be under 23 at the time of decision. This obviously affects all applications made after that rule change. I believe that the only exception would be if the dependant was dependant due to mental incapacity or serious illness - but then they would have trouble passing the medical. It’s a problem the many will face now due to the long wait time.

  22. I believe that post was incorrect and an apology made. Maybe double check ??
  23. True- I had a “discussion” on social media with an agent (not mine!) who stood by her announcement that my June 2017 application would reach processing stage in June 2023!! If it’s 67 months I’ve already waited 63 months but there no chance on earth they’d start my processing in 4 more months.!!
  24. Don’t think you can be on two applications at the same time so it’s best to speak to an agent for best strategy
