  1. No you can’t. 173 is an offshore visa therefore you would have to be outside Australia in order to have it granted . Your return to Australia will then activate the visa.
  2. Oh Tulip , what fantastic news!! Finally. Enjoy your new life. I’m only 4 months behind you but looking at another 18 months - stuck in the nightmare that is May and June 2017 but thrilled to hear your news.
  3. Then why have I received a second email?? I have also seen a post where they said the links in the email didn’t work !
  4. I’ve just received a second email saying exactly the same thing! I’m hoping they’ve not had a cyber attack - which appears to be happening a lot. Apparently Accro police have also had a cyber attack
  5. I’m not excited - I was more concerned in case it was a hack! I actually think they’re looking to see if they can get rid of any because they no longer meet the criteria after waiting for so many years or if people have died etc. After 1 June 2018 they check them and give a queue date. Prior to that it was the lodgement date with no check until nearly at processing stage. So maybe they’re checking them now with the govt due to announce any changes in parent visas later this year !
  6. People with agents also got it directly - which is quite odd .as communications usually go via agent in that case
  7. I always thought any communication would go via your agent and not directly to you that’s why there’s doubt Of course if you don’t have an agent then I don’t know!
  8. I don’t know if this is a valid email or not. On social media loads of people have reported receiving it including people who have already had their visa GRANTED ! @Alan Collett can you shed any light on this??
  9. @tostar you might find this interesting from @Alan Collett I’ve crossed out the non contributory so the total needs adjusting to further answer your query
  10. They said UP to May 2017 meaning to the end of April. Even when they reach the quota for the year (especially so close to the end of the financial year) they carry on processing for grants in the next financial year. They don’t stop working just because the quota has been reached! In fact out of the 6800 annual quota for contributory parents 112 have been reserved for existing holders of 405 & 410 visas which are no longer available for new applicants so they certainly aren’t going above the cap !
  11. There could be changes ahead for all parent visas particularly as Australia say there are too many on “permanently temporary visas” Medicare is also struggling and it wouldn’t surprise me if they took away the reciprocal health care as only 11 countries benefit from it. Annual private health care could be very expensive - I believe @ramot was quoted $11k a year for a couple a while ago ! I understand a hip operation would cost $45000 so over the years you could end up paying thousands of dollars if they decided to remove the RHCA.
  12. Tourist visa is not granted to 804 - they get Bridging visa A ((BVA) Is it 600 visa instead - May have condition only 12 months in any 18 months on it and Condition no further stay?
  13. That’s quite a normal thing! Just as a heads up there are people who’ve paid AOS a few months ago who are still waiting for 2nd VAC. I would assume they’re part of the 1000 left but they may still have to wait till new financial year on 1st July
  14. Hmm I’m not convinced I will but fingers crossed. Thank you
  15. Thank you @Alan Collett Have PMd you regarding another matter
  16. Thank you @Alan Collett that actually makes sense ! So I gather that may be one of the things they will discuss when working out a new parent strategy
  17. Do you think there is a possibility RHCA would be removed from 804 given it costs Australia so much? Or maybe remove the work rights on the BVA that allow a cheaper private health insurance cover. After all giving people work rights at age 67 after they’ve probably retired in their home country is a bit absurd whilst younger parents with acknowledged skills have to wait offshore?
  18. Yes I remember that too. .I think it was a student visa? Also on social media one person said they’d migrated on a skilled visa a few years ago but just before they did there were some skilled work applicants who were waiting offshore who had their applications cancelled and money refunded. I think it was when they introduced a points system? I have no knowledge of skilled work visas so can’t comment.. Also on social media a well known agent (not Alan C!) stated some time ago that 804 is subject to changes in immigration law as it’s a temporary visa and also Reciprocal health care is an agreement only not a law. Nobody apart from the govt know what steps they will take but by announcing what the review says then saying they will deal with it later does raise peoples concerns. However given there’s ten of thousands of parents already on bridging visa it would be very difficult to say they all had to leave! But I do wonder if they would stop new applicants for 804 and/or remove the RHCA from existing ones given the main concern is the costs of older parents as they age. This could have an effect as private health insurance could prove expensive for older people with pre existing problems which are more likely as they age. I believe @ramot mentioned that as well. However we are all second guessing what will happen and are all concerned. All parent visa applicants could be affected not just 804. People waiting offshore for 143 for many years are also worried. Possibly there may be some clues in the upcoming budget?
  19. I have recently seen posts on social media by two migration agents who have alerted people to the fact that all their applications for 838 (Aged Dependant Relative) are being requested for further documents - earlier than expected and all of them at once. Clearly something odd is happening!
  20. I accept what you say. I hope you also understand that the post by Steve was wrong to comment on people “whinging and whining” whichever group he was referring to. Most people are aware that getting an Australian visa is not an easy path to tread. As others have said parent visas are a very dysfunctional group of visas
  21. Yes it is a mixed forum but partner visas are not capped, are easier to get and don’t have huge long wait lists. In fact I believe some partner visas are being granted in as little as 4 months. So are you saying Steve was referring to partners complaining? I’m not sure why they would given it’s much easier to get than a Parent visa. It can’t be skilled visas because the focus is on them now and apparently the hope is that some will be granted in days according to the report! The report states that Parents visa will only be dealt with later on not as the same time as the others. So parents do have more to complain about and probably are becoming more vociferous as the wait drags on and on. The longer it drags on the more parents run the risk of failing the Medicals as they age and is a concern for many especially when the report also mentions the possibility of a lottery, or removing permanent Parent visas and reducing the 3 or 5 year 870 to a 12 months in 18 months stay. None of it exactly inspires hope in parents that they will ever get their visa
  22. Posting in a forum which is mostly about parents does tend to look as though you are talking about that group! Partners now seem to be ok getting their visas as it’s not capped but demand driven.
  23. I’m so sorry. I’ve seen posts on social media where March - as you say - have had some granted. It must be so frustrating !! Fingers crossed you hear soon.
  24. I do agree with you especially with this new review. 804 is subject to any changes in immigration law and parents will have to pass the Medical in another 3 years just to be put in queue! But then no one has a crystal ball to send into the future - I didn’t think that being told 18-24 months would turn into me still waiting nearly 6 years later!! @Tulip1 have you received your visa yet - I remember you saying you had been asked for further docs?
