  1. Hubby did this this year as I have always been unsure but he used I car hire insurance this year and no claims and no hassle. Problem is u need to pay the large xs so depends on credit card limits x
  2. Where is your potential work?
  3. Have used moneycorp and transfer wise . Transfer wise charge fees but give better exchange rate whilst moneycorp do no fees. Just gotta work out what's best for you and depends on bank charges at destination also.

    Emirates

We have flown Singapore and emirates back and forth the last few years. Emirates big draw was leaving from Glasgow. The only flight we had with Singapore was with young kids and the crew were so so helpful. They helped with the kids bags and all so nice. Decided to book them for emigrating this year but flight delayed leaving Edinburgh missed our connection and put up overnight and flew with Cathay next night. ( wanted the long flight leaving UK at night...) never got a 380 as Cathay do not have them, this was another reason we had taken the Singapore flight... Emirates crew is a hit and miss but entertainment system is phenomenal. A380 is fab so if you can get that on your sector I like it as I find it hard to sleep on planes. Good luck x
  5. We had towels n bedding vacuum packed and it took 12 weeks to get to us... But they seem ok. Tbh I feel everything needs freshened up.. Good luck
  6. Tbh @Jester Neve the UK has so many things in single name.. It's a pest. But they asked us for some more to prove the last couple of years .. We'd been together 14yrs and we submitted a selection spanning the years... The thing is you don't save up stuff as we didn't appreciate how much we had to prove... It's there to prevent dodges but to me if people want to marry for visa purposes this is the kind of thing they would do... We flew here in January and also read the sections for submission carefully as some things u need to put under different headings Good luck x
  7. I can see both sides but think at this point leaving is not in go best interests. Problem is ppl only hear/see what they want to and that may swing the vote... i don't think we should have joined in the first place but tbh as an nhs worker I have benefitted and also our flight to Oz was delayed so we got $$ because of EU law.... if we were still manufacturing and lots of industry... But we're not... just wish change rate improves.......
  8. @lady raincorn, I grew up in Maddison near muiravonside park. Parents now in Grangemouth... I was born in wallacestone... lol Perth... I wondered as I wrote it.. I spent a couple of weeks in Perth doing tourist stuff but then hired a car for 2wksand travelled south Albany esperance etc then up to monkey Mia... Then blew the rest of our money on a hotel in Singapore. On one hand wish we'd done overland Malaysia.. But one day I'll get there (easier now from Oz) prob not cheaper. Glad ur son happy. yes been to stobo it's beautiful countryside down that way and so nice in it. Enjoy xx
  9. Not been on your thread for ages. Can't believe how much you've done. As Pom queen says slow down a bit. I came via nyc when I came nearly 15yrs ago... Spent a month in nz travelling and missed Milford sounds area which is on to do list. Australia I arrived in dec into Sydney. I know ppl love it but I love it as a city but not to live. We stayed in kings cross Eva's I think... But we ended up following the weather we moved to Adelaide and worked (overnight bus from Sydney made interesting by Christmas beetles at service station stops...) I travelled with my best friend. We then went to kangaroo island fora few days and March time went to Melbourne. We worked in the hostel for our board which was fab and it was here we met our first friends for life.. We had Easter together then when we went to Sydney in May/June where it was miserable cold and wet.... Spoke to the guys and ended up going to meet them in brisVegas....sunny n warm just to saywedidtheoz bus and yes never met Ffl thru this but have stayed in touch with some. But they all bring something to your trip. Chill enjoy and take it as it comes. One guy we met in Brisbane we are now v friendly with but he was v full on when travelling and it wasn't till back here he seemed to mellow. Met so many ppl in Brisbane (stayed at what was palace backpackers) friend ended up driving hostel bus and she never paid board. Others worked in the bar.. But got so many friends for life here... Don't see each other often as all over UK but still in touch now most of us married with kids... I found you became close to ppl quickly cos we are all in same boat but easy enough to not spend time with those you unkeen on but give ppl time sometimes to get to know them.. I ended up leafleting in Brisbane not great but gave me a new appreciation for those who do it enjoy. We were in Brisbane at max watts seeing OCS the other night it was fab but lovely area around there so many pubs n restaurants... good luck
  10. @lady raincorn small world. Perth is a beautiful city and I have spent a few trips to Crieff hydro. Do u like Falkirk? I think it's a fab location for everywhere. Only been here 7weeks and homesickness not totally hit me been too busy. Only time being upset so far was sending kids to school on day 1, then the other day when my 8yr old says she doesn't like oz and wants to go back to Scotland to wear her winter woolies lol. Then the other day their school on Gold Coast had bomb hoax... Stupid me but I lived so long At home thru IRA threats and Cold War awareness etc..and trying to keep kids aware but not scared of terrorism etc... I always think aus more remote from world problems but still got numpties....
  11. England and Scotland have separate national trusts think there is some recognition but I can't remember
  12. Glenfinnan was Harry Potter I did it a few yrs ago takes a while to drive but it's beautiful scenery. But if in London we you get to Watford for Harry Potter world? It's meant to be amazing x I've not introduced my gang yet but figure I should now( my oldest 2 are 8 and 9(soon to be 10)
  13. You should be able to get a pass to cover for so many days to see some of historic Scotland (Edinburgh castle) /national trust but not sure how much and how many days x
  14. So much to see and do not enough time... Have a look at Falkirk and Stirling if you have time... Falkirk kelpies , helix and the Falkirk wheel and Stirling castle. We enjoyed battle of bannock burn but slightly gruesome history... But not first on my list. I'd go to Edinburgh then decide whether to head west via trossachs (east side Loch Lomond) or thru Glasgow to west side Loch Lomond. Eilan donan is v picturesque but lots of castles around. Look at glenfinnan viaduct steam train. Strathspeys steam train. And that may decide if you head north or go west. Weather should hopefully be ok at that time. I'm from Falkirk originally and impressed with what they have done but lived over 20yrs in Glasgow and love Ayrshire Arran and Dumfries. In fact I just love Scotland lol. Have a look on national trust Scotland and historic Scotland as sometimes they have events on at weekends. May not due to late season. Also look on doors open website. Scotland has doors open days during September and lots of buildings not normally open to the public are open for a day or two.. Clockwork orange (Glasgow subway/underground) bit different to the rest of the world... national museum of Scotland in Edinburgh was on my to do list meant to be afab day out. I went to our dynamic earth in Edinburgh which I enjoyed and it is near Scottish Parliament and holy rood if you are so inclined. Balmoral Highland games are usually held in September if keen to see royalty and dates coincide?? ok I'll stop going on and on. Keep us posted re ur plans good luck and don't try to do too much xx remember Scottish roads not as good as Oz...
  15. What age are your kids and what do they like doing?
  16. @Jemm44 ask for 6month supply of meds before u leave. Less stress of finding gp quickly and probably cheaper too xx
  17. House sale was Held back a week.... money to be transferred... Had hoped for a more preferable exchange rates..... Aaarrggh
  18. Also you need to work for nhs at the other side if you want them to fund you. Read small print depending what role you want will enter if while and when u want to go. I had thought about doing mine before I left but thought may be useful doing in aus as relevant to their healthcare... ?But I have P R thru hubby so not paying foreign course fees i hade 2yr experience when I came out on whv and so glad as left to own devices dependent where u work. Assuming done venepuncture and IVs??
  19. Hi surfs up. I've not had to do ahpra/ anmac yet. From what has been said the oz system wants you to have a degree not a diploma? But I've not experienced it yet. When I was here on my WHV we were paid extra cos we had our degree... Cos you have. Done critical care course I'm assuming you will be paid better as I u nurse and I'm sure agency would employ you. I worked over 2yrs newly qualified and went to oz. They put us in any number of areas but I loved working there. I've worked over 10 yr in Icu but worked in gp surgery for last 2yrs... Not sure what I'm going to do yet. Following x
  20. Family live in green bank and Victoria point so hence we opted South. Train line going in at mango hill. Made it attractive. I'm a nurse so will be able to work wherever.
  21. Thank u ppl, we did look at compare market and separates. Ended up with racq.... See how we go next year thank you. I do feel we double pay insurance though... Compulsory 3rd party with rego then we buy our own comprehensive insurance..... Oh well here's hoping we don't ever need to claim....
  22. Had my licence full UK over 20yrs... Allianz would not recognise it....
  23. Ok ppl bought a Nissan x trail. Looked online at insurance and called company today. Because I have not held oz licence for 2yrs I need to pay another $500 if I have an accident and all UK no claims is not accepted?? Is this true of all insurance companies in oz? help x Only but is my hubby getting so annoyed with Australia he asking when can we go back to Scotland lol.. My family and friends we be so happy ??*?*??
  24.
