  1. Could your family/relations/friends in the UK help you out if you moved back to the UK?
  2. I also went back every two years when Mum was alive. Don't feel the same pull to go back anymore. One son is now in Ireland and has done a fair bit of travelling in the UK and Europe. He would like to try Canada next. Second son has done the Europe backpacking thing but is happy here in Australia. Has a good job and a girlfriend so is settled.
  3. Coming for a holiday would make sense. Migrating is a huge step to take.
  4. ' If you don't want heat or cold, spring and autumn are best.
  5. What is it about the Police not just in Victoria but other states too. Sexual harassment and bullying seems to be rife. Same with the Armed Forces.
  6. Really? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/david-cameron-charging-120000-per-hour-for-speeches-about-brexit-a7418451.html
  7. No I wouldn't class them as punk. I'd say more rock than anything else.
  8. Really nice day. It's 23C and not a cloud in the sky. Harry on the dog beach this morning.
  9. I used the final rinse water from the washing machine on the garden when we lived in Perth.
  10. I noticed how lovely the roses were in Adelaide. Maybe because of the drier heat they don't get the usual fungal/blackspot problems.
  11. Whenever I hear this particular Cult song I remember dancing around the kitchen with my baby and toddler. Must be the mid 80's.
  12. Yes, we thought about that at one time but I'm over travelling now. I've turned into a boring old homebody but hey, I'm happy.
  13. I saw them in the late 70's. They were good.
  14. I thought they were finished by 1977. Saw them in '76 but thought they were pretty awful. Preferred the Buzzocks, The Clash and The Ramones.
  15. The average American doesn't earn more than the average Australian.
  16. ^^^^^ It was a lovely full moon last night but I didn't notice it being any different from normal full moons.
  17. Sounds ideal bunbury. For me it would be 4 months in the UK and 8 months in Australia .............. make that Tasmania. No stinking hot summers on the north coast.
  18. I bet you will be living somewhere in Europe within the next 10 years Flag.
  19. Perhaps I've been lucky but I've forged genuine friends here in Australia. Yes, even the call for help in the middle of the night kind. Friends I left behind in the UK have also moved on from their home towns. Some to different parts of the UK, some to different countries. Life moves on and changes. You can't expect life and people to stand still and be just the same as it once was.
  20. Most of family/friends who stayed with us over the years were a joy to have in the house. Except for a couple of backpacker types I can't remember feeling put upon. When I went back to the UK I stayed at Mum's house but wouldn't have dreamt of taking advantage. Filled her car every time we would use it - shopped for and cooked most meals. Since she died, I stay with friends/sister/sister in law. No stress, no hassle - just muck in with everything.
  21. I bought most of my lads clothes in Target when they were small and they lasted very well. The younger one got the hand me downs from his brother and they were still in good nick. Found K Mart not so good. My Mum and sister used to send them clothes from M&S. That was a real treat. Used to buy from Mothercare too but didn't like their stuff so much.
  22. I married an Australian 40 years ago Suziedoll. When we moved here (with no children) 35 years ago life was pretty easy. Plenty of jobs - houses were a reasonable price. That doesn't apply anymore. I think if you are comfortable in the UK and if you can buy a house in Spain, life would be a lot less stress free than moving to the other side of the world. If I hadn't married an Australian I would never have thought of coming here to live. Luckily for us life has been good here and I wouldn't go back to the UK to live now. Many migrants are miserable though for one reason or another and can't wait to return to the UK. Australia is no longer the so called 'lucky country'.
  23. Would your Aussie born son consider moving to Tasmania @Quoll? He would be closer to his girls and the weather might suit him better - pretty similar in a lot of ways to the UK weatherwise though longer summers and milder winters. The north coast in particular has fertile soil and good farms.
  24. I share a plot with a neighbour at the Devonport Community Garden. We have planted carrots, beans, tomatoes, cucumber and a variety of lettuce. We don't have a big garden at home so the plot is really great to have. Meet some lovely people there too. http://www.devonport.tas.gov.au/Live/Your-Community/Community-Houses/Devonport-Community-Garden
  25. As most fast food is on the meaty side, I haven't touched any of it for over 30 years. Always partial to decent fish and chips though.
