  1. It just doesn't make sense does it? I wonder if ANMAC will now raise their bar to come in line with ahpra? Surely they can't have the 2 boards having different criteria? I also wonder how it will affect the visa? We lodged ours a couple of weeks ago and claimed extra points for a degree, due to my assessment from ANMAC? If ANMAC & the visa authority accept the degree then why not ahpra? I am worried they Will they stop issuing a nursing visa if the nurses then can't work once they come over?!?!?!
  2. Hi, I did my advanced diploma too long ago now to be able to convert it to a degree, but 2 years ago I got my neonatal qualification from Southampton uni (equivalent to 20 credits) and just about to complete my mentorship course from Bournemouth uni, also 20 credits. You mentioned about aphra taking into account post reg qualifications, Do you think that these would be accepted at all? Not sure whether to apply to aphra and see or save that money do bridging course & then apply? This diploma situation is just so disappointing. Nat
  3. Abbilouiseslatter, so gutted for you, this is the news we've all been dreading. Had you been skills assessed by ANMAC and Did you have a letter from stating that you're diploma was equivalent to a degree? Nat
  4. Hi, I am child trained too, on the project 2000 course, with a advanced diploma. Your comment about the the bridging course has worried me, do you think that being child trained excludes you from being able to do it? Just can't understand how ANMAC can assess it as equivalent to a degree but aphra dismiss it? Nat
  5. Could I ask your advice aswell please regarding education section? I have my diploma certificate and prior to that I did a'levels but can't seem to find my certificates, only my gcse's. I have my IELTS though. Do I need to try & get copies of my a'levels (wouldn't know where to look though as 20 yrs ago!) or as I've done IELTS would that be enough? Thanks, Nat x
  6. Hi, we lodged our visa application on the 6th June. Police checks sent yesterday & medicals arranged for next week! Good luck everyone & hopefully we'll start finding out soon!!! Nat x
  7. We sent ours by courier as we wanted to get them there quickly, it wasn't too bad a price!
  8. I just don't see on what grounds they can refuse a HE diploma as it meets the criteria/requirements of the level 7! It's a 3 year course not a 1.5-2 yr one that say the diploma is in level 6. British education has always been held in higher esteem, in America it is classed as a degree too?!?!
  9. Advice please, I have lodged my 189 visa and just thinking now about applying to AHPRA. I was wondering if I should hang on a bit and see what is happening and let some of the backlog get sorted or do you think I should register now and get myself in the queue? (Also don't want to waste my money if they don't except the diploma) I have a HE diploma in nursing and qualified in 1996 so a bit worried that I am not going to be able to find all the information that is needed for the new criteria! It's crazy that they are more worried about what you learn't 18 years ago rather than what you know now, surely they should be wanting evidence of update, current practice?!?!
  10. I agree with you. From this it looks like the english HE diploma fits this category as the diploma guidelines for level 6 says that the course is only 1.5-2 years which is why ANMAC have said ours is equivalent to a Bachelor's degree!
  11. Hi, I am about to lodge my visa any day now and then I was going to apply to ahpra but I was wondering wether to wait and see how the people who have been waiting since oct/nov etc get on with all the changes. Does anyone think it's a good idea to wait and see what happens and wait for them to clear some of the backlog or should I just get on and apply and get in the queue? Really dreading it as it sounds like a complete nightmare!!!,
  12. Hi, I needed to get 8's too and have finally done it on my third attempt!!! All I can say is practice practice practice! I wrote essay after essay and lots of reading papers over and over again! There are lots of practice papers on the internet. I would recommend that you print some off and practice filling them in. It's a very long hard day on the test day and I found it a lot harder than I thought it would be. Best of luck and let us know how you got on!!! Nat
  13. Hi sarah, I am just a couple of months ahead of you so can help you a little bit with the things you need to do. Yes apply online as the form you get back telling you what information you need is really helpful, as far as I'm aware there is no time limit. In the meantime you can get IELTS to send your results directly to ANMAC, contact NMC to send verification letter(£34) and they send it direct too aswell as your uni for a transcript as they need to send it direct too( mine cost £10). I sent my ANMAC in jan and still waiting so I would get it done as soon as you can. Best of luck with it all, Nat.
  14. Hi, I am in the very same situation as you are. I have worked as a paediatric nurse for 15 years but only been part time, due to children, over the last 10 years. We were going to go for the 190 visa but lost the 5 points for work experience and so therefore the 5 points for state nomination as you need the work experience for that. Nursing is the only skill that requires you to have 3 years of working at 20 weeks for 3 years. They do not accept 2 years of part time as 1 year of full time. So our only other option was to go for the 189 visa and get the extra 10 points through the IELTS test. I got the 7's I needed for ANMAC but now need to get all 8's. I will be doing it again in April for the third time!! I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck, Nat x

    Ielts

Practice, practice, practice!!! The IELTS is harder than you expect it to be! I too need to get all 8's to get the extra points and I am now on my 3rd attempt. I got 7 for my writing first time round (above 8 in everything else) then on second attempt I upped my writing to a 8.5 but dropped in my reading to a 7.5, so now I have to do the whole test again!!!!! It's so frustrating. Good luck, Nat x
  16. Hi, does anyone know if you can submit the results of 2 IELTS tests so that together they cover all your grades over 8? In my first test I got a 7 in my writing and the rest were above 8 and then in my next test I got 8.5 in my writing but dropped my reading down to 7.5!! I need 8's in everything. Or does anyone know if it may be worth seeing if I can my reading remarked as I really don't feel like I did that bad, and actually thought it went better than the previous one? Or am I just going to have to suck it up and do it again !!!!!!!! Grateful for any advice, thanks, Nat.
  17. I did my academic IELTS in nov and got the 7+ that I needed for my anmac skills assessment. I now need to get 8's in everything for my 189 visa so i can claim the 20 points. I redid the IELTS (academic) and although I improved my writing from 7 to 8.5, I then dropped my reading from 8.5 to 7.5. So I have to do it again but I am worried that i will not do so well in my writing next time as data analysis is not my strong point!! It is really stressing me out and I feel sick at the thought of having to do it again :arghh: Does anyone know if I can do a general IELTS for the visa now that I have my ANMAC out the way or does the test for ANMAC and the visa need to be the same?!?! Any advice gratefully received, Nat x
