  1. We are in south Australia. I am having trouble finding something about it on the residential tenancies website. Hmmm
  2. Hi, quick question.... We are looking for a place to rent and like 2 places (neither one is perfect but either one would be sufficient). Obviously we could apply to rent one and then have the owner not select us to be the renters and then we miss he deadline to apply for the other rental because of waiting to hear back on the first. If we apply to rent both.... And hypothetically they both select us to be the renters, can we turn down the acceptance of our application or by applying to rent are we bound to rent the place if they accept our application? thanks
  3. Thanks for the ideas to everyone who had something helpful to say, I appreciate it. I really like the idea about the children's books....that is just what I was looking for Thanks!
  4. Hi all, My husband and I will be relocating to the Adelaide area (from Canada) in Sept/Oct 2015. We are very close to our nephews who are 2 and 3 years old. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or suggestions for how to tell them that we are moving and they won't be able to come over and play with us on a regular basis anymore. We are moving out of our house this weekend and the 3 yr old is very upset that we are leaving our house and going to be living in an apartment because he "loves our house". We were thinking that we would just be straightforward with them and tell them what is happening (not until shortly before we leave though!) but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this, should we buy them a gift of some sort (suggestions)? It is hard on us to be moving away from them, but I know it will be even harder on them since they probably won't be able to fully understand it because they are so young. Thanks in advance
  5. skyeman - I live in Saskatchewan, and yes, winter is very cold....colder and longer than Edmonton and Calgary. Obviously houses are built to stay warm....but you still have to go outside to work/get groceries/be social...you can only stay inside for so long. That 2 minute walk out of the grocery store to your car/loading your car in -50 in bruuuutal. That being said, some people love winter and snowmobiling, skiing, etc (although you still cant do those things a lot of the time because its so cold your skin will freeze in under a minute, haha)
  6. Mike and Sarah. Ages 33 and 31 moving (from Canada) to Adelaide on a 190 Visa in Sept 2015! We are excited, but nervous about the move! Life is an adventure...
  7. That is since the date of submission. We had our medicals and police checks uploaded about 2 weeks after submitting. I guess we got lucky, I thought it seemed pretty quick. Yours should be coming soon !
  8. our wait time was just over 6 weeks for a 190
  9. GRANTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I am a little happy!) ...best Monday morning ever Lodged Dec 3/14, Medicals and Police Checks done Dec 10/14
  10. We flew with Philippine Airlines from Vancouver to Manila a year ago (14 hr flight) and it was the best flight I have ever been on (granted my overnight flights have only been with Air Canada/West Jet before). It was on a new plane...the seatback entertainment had movies, tv shows, games, music. Food was excellent, seats were comfortable. Legroom/seat size was good. We also flew with them from Manila to Honolulu (9 hours) and it was on an older plane that had no seat back entertainment (which we didnt realize when booking) so if you do decide to fly with them, just check what plane you are getting haha. The older plane was still comfortable seats/legroom and the food and service was still excellent.
  11. Thanks guys! We are very very very happy! I can't even express in words how happy we are. @Allie, My advice is to figure out a way to prove that you do every bullet that they list for your occupation. That is what my husband did, and it seems to have worked! Good Luck with your reassessment!
  12. @Allie POSITIVE OUTCOME! Yaaaaaaay!! .....only took 4 MONTHS for the reassessment, haha!
  13. beckdownunder - what business/career are you in ?
  14. Apparently the assessment is completed...we are now waiting for them to send us the results. I don't think I have ever been so stressed in my life. I don't think my husband and I slept a wink last night!
  15. Yeah, we were told it would be 3-4 weeks for the reassessment too. I am thinking my husbands information is sitting on the desk of an assessor that's not very quick working Our agent has been phoning them about every 2 weeks and they keep on telling him that it is is "in progress" and that is all they can say/do about it. We are very frustrated and stressed. Do you think it would be beneficial for my husband to phone Vetassess himself? For my husbands second attempt at assessment, he resubmitted everything that was submitted the first time (Finance degree, other designations, employment history, resume, job description, among other things) as well as emails from the CEO inviting him to meetings and that type of thing, any certificates/emails proving his attendance at planning meetings, organizational involvement, etc. Also, he went through every single bullet that vetassess has listed for Corporate Service Manager and stated how he meets each criteria and then provided the evidence (ie, notes from a meeting that he planned, etc). They seemed to think that he did sales instead of management (!?!?!??) which we have no idea how they got that from his job description. He is ultimately responsible for the sales of the corporation (since he is the corporate services MANAGER) but he doesn't actually do sales himself....so its just a bit confusing as to where they got that from. I will update as soon as we hear something (HOPEFULLY SOON!) and you keep us updated too. I have this feeling that we will never hear back from vetassess.... haha
  16. Hi Allie. My husbands skills assessment came back negative in June and we submitted for reassessment and are still waiting. We don't understand how it came back negative either. Our migration agent phoned them to find out information and they basically told him that my husband's job description and what he does doesn't match their vetassess criteria (corporate services manager). It does match, perfectly ... so my husband collected more information (thru emails with invitations to business/corporate meetings and conferences, etc) and took their list of criteria and stated beneath each one what he does and provided evidence to support it and then he had his HR Manager sign it. We hope this will result in a positive out come this time. Our first vetassess submission was in February....2nd beginning of July.....and we are still waiting
  17. Hey Mac, thanks for helping us remain positive! We are very happy that it isn't a "no", but still nervous about the occupation suddenly being taken of the SNOL. Time and money are very valuable in this process and this is costing us both... but I guess thats the ups and downs of migration! I hope your EOI comes back soon and that the next 4 weeks fly by!
  18. Update: Our migration agent contacted Vetassess and basically there was an error in the interpretation of my husbands job description, even though his reference letter and other documents were an exact match for the description. Now we have to resubmit and play the waiting game again. (they say it wont be 17 weeks, but will be several "weeks" again) ARGH! haha... back to the waiting game.
  19. Took 17 weeks for ours. Long wait! Came back negative...there was some errors in their interpretation, so now we have to resubmit and wait again! Nothing you can do but be patient. I know its hard
  20. Got our Vetassess Skills Assessment back... was 17 weeks. Came back negative.... not very happy about that. Our migration agent will be contacting them on Monday about it. They said that my husbands employment isn't relevant, but it exactly matches the description of the career he is applying under. We literally don't understand. But anyways.... 17 weeks!
  21. I am Canadian and living in Saskatchewan. Canada is great.....if you don't mind being stuck inside for months on end. Depending on where you live in Canada will determine how harsh your winter is. Saskatchewan and Manitoba have very long and cold winters. We pretty much don't go outside from November-March for longer than getting to and from our car. Alberta winters are just as long as ours, but the temperatures don't drop as cold (we will normally be -40 for the whole month of January, they may be around -20 for example) so you can spend more time outside if you are interested in skiing, etc. Vancouver has a wonderful winter and very seldomly have snow .... but it does rain a lot there year 'round. Toronto gets a cold winter, but its a big city, so I would assume they have a lot of indoor activities you could occupy yourselves with. Toronto also seems to get a nice hot summer (lots of 30+ days). I highly recommend Canada as a great place to live....but you have to be able to deal with the weather (a huge reason why we are considering migrating....the weather makes a huge impact on your lifestyle - I certainly can't run outside in 6 feet of snow when its -40 out )
  22. Okay, Thanks for the update! (I am assume you had a good outcome?) We were really hoping to have it back by the end of June, so maybe that will happen
  23. My husbands was submitted 1st week of March and he is still waiting
