  1. Shearer, are you in Australia? For those outside Australia, a "fat" credit card is the only option, for the 189 class.
  2. Hello All, This credit card issue requiring a large transaction limit in order to pay the visa fee with a single transaction seems to be a bottle-neck for many including me. Australian immigration rules are straight forward for visa type 189. So, I would not think about filing my application by an authorized lawyer. But since I do not have a credit card with such capability, I have no choice but to pay a lawyer to file my case! As strange as it may sound, that is like paying him for letting me borrow his credit card only! Please share how you are going around the credit card problem. Thanks. -- mcgyver
  3. thanks, travelchick, for picking up my question and replying to it. it got lost among other posts.
  4. Hello All, This is a hypothetical question only. What if, in past 10 years, I had experience that I could relate to an ANZSCO code in the SOL/CSOL list AND what if my current position does not match that ANZSCO? Would it be safe to proceed and take the first step by getting my skills assessed in light of the last 10 years? :-)
  5. Hello, I prepared an ACS assessment application and saved it online. I was then given an application number and the note that my password would be sent to my email address. But, it seems unusually long to receive a mail containing that password. I still haven't received any mail and it is over an hour almost! Is it normal?
  6. Aren't you all native English speakers? Why do you need to sit for IELTS?
  7. Hello, I am currently holding a job related to my education which was ICT Major. I wonder whether it would be acceptable by a CO if I changed my job and took a new job related to my ICT major education but with a different ANZSCO code. Or, should I have to keep myself stuck at the current ANZSCO (263111) until my case is finalized? It is just a thought. A reply would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  8. Hi. Thanks to both for replies. I can update EOI and modify the start date of my first job so that it coincides with the date as of which ACS considered me "skilled". I can do that. But, my physical reference letter from the first job (and therefore also the photocopy of it) still hold the "original" start date. Won't a CO notice it?
  9. Thanks for your answer. Actually, I have found out that my speculation about the first point, shorter vs longer ANZSCO codes, was correct. Indeed, the shorter forms are used in order to denote groups of similar occupations. For example, 26311 is a group, and under its umbrella lie specific occupations such as 263111, 263112, 263113, etc. I am going for subclass 189 with ANZSCO 263111 (Computer Network and Systems Engineer) and willing to settle anywhere in Australia upon a successful application. I am just starting to have my skills assessed by sending an application to ACS (Australian Computer Society). All the best to you.
  10. Hello All, I am quite confused and its seems those who are getting their skills assessed by ACS are going through a paradox due to the fact that there are some new rules set out for ACS to inforce. According to the new rules, the first 2 years of my ICT related experience get deducted from the total number of ICT experience I have acquired in my professional career so far, since my degree was an ICT Major. As a result, I am deemed as a "skilled" professional with 6.5 years, instead of 8.5 years. So, I should have got 10 points for my experience. But I have filled out the EOI pages and after submitting the total number of points rewarded are 15, instead of 10! Is it a glitch in the system? Does DIAC have yet to upgrade the EOI tool? Or is it a time bomb waiting to explode in the form of a rejection that may result in later on when a Case Officer says that my claimed points are more than what I deserve? But, I have done nothing but simply answered questions listed by the EOI tool. The tool has asked me to state the start-date and end-date of each of my jobs. Based on the answers, it calculates my ponits for 8.5 years! Why?
  11. Kezzles, I am uncertain whether all Assessing Bodies are setting out some new rules in order to take a tighter approach toward assessing skills. My Assessing Body is ACS (Australian Computer Society) which is different from yours. So, before feeling worried, I think you should find out whether there are some new rules in effect to be inforced by your Assessing Body.
  12. Actually, I am thinking how one might "over claim". If I fill in the blanks on the EOI tool properly, I will not be over claiming experience because the EOI simply asks to specify the starting date and ending date for each job that an applicant wishes to claim points for. It is not a lie if, for the starting date, I put the day I received the joining letter and if, for the ending date, I put the day I received my termination letter from HR. :-)
  13. this is indeed really turning more confusing. how are we supposed to calculate and, thence, claim points at the time we submit EOI's if there are no clear directives from DIAC on how to calculate points for any ANZSCO compliant jobs assessed by ACS? This question is important because if we end up claiming more points, due to wrong calculations, than we actually deserve (based on decisions made by immigration officers) we run into the risk of getting our applications rejected!
  14. Yes Kezzles, that I know. I have all those documents ready. It is just that I was being paranoid...
  15. Got it, Kezzles. In fact, I submitted a dummy EOI just to remove all doubts. When I was adding my jobs, the online EOI tool simply asked starting date and end date. The total points scored for work experience came out to be 15 for my 8+ years. Having ensured like that, I then withdrew the dummy EOI. :-)
  16. Hello Kezzles, Thanks for your reply. Here is what ACS Skills Team replied me with when I raised the same concern to them. I quote: Starting-quote All ACS Skill Assessment Result Letters report on a date (mm/yy) of when an applicant becomes ‘skilled’. This date will be when the applicant meets the ACS Requirements, these requirements are detailed in the Summary of Criteria<http://www.acs.org.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0016/7324/Summary-of-Criteria.pdf> Only employment completed after the date the applicant has met the ACS requirements will be counted as skilled employment. Ending-quote I have attached here the document they were referring to. Please have a look. Summary-of-Criteria.pdf Summary-of-Criteria.pdf
  17. Hi travelchic, I will get 25 points for my age. Yes, Rupert, I know that I will not get points for assessment. But once I submit an EOI, my total years of experience will be calculated based on comments made by the skills assessment body (ACS, in my case). So, if I have 8.5 years of experience and ACS comments that I am considered "skilled" for 6.5, then my points on work experience will be based on 6.5! No?
  18. Hi Everyone, I am thinking about preparing to submit an application to ACS in order to have my ICT skills assessed. But before that, I need to ensure whether I could achieve 15 points if I placed an EOI in order to receive an invitation to apply as an independent skilled professional (subclass 189), given that the assessment came out positive. My estimation is that, if I get 10 points instead of 15, then my total points will not be 60 and therefore I will certainly not receive an invitation. Please tell me whether I will get 15 points based on my information below: ICT Major: Bachelor Degree in Computer Engineering from a Canadian university ANZSCO: 263111 (Computer Network and System Engineer) Previous Company outside Australia: 2.5 years of fulltime work (40 hrs/wk) closely related to ANZSCO 263111 Current Company outside Australia: 6 years of fulltime work (40 hrs/wk) closely related to ANZSCO 263111 Thanks.
  19. Thanks for clicking on my topic. :-) I am new in exploring ways to go to Australia as a skilled immigrant. Please have a look at my 2 basic general questions: 1. I see sometimes ANZSCO codes in longer and sometimes in shorter format. For example: 261311 and 2613. Is the shorter format intentionally used in order to become less specific so that multiple ANZSCO codes can be referred to? 2. We know, paper copies of original documents should be made and then those copies should be certified, scanned, and uploaded to SkillSelect for submitting an EOI. Regarding copies, what should be the best of the 3 ways we can make a copy BEFORE we get it certified, as listed below? option-1: Scan the original copy and then print the file generated by the scanner on a color printer. option-2: Make a color photocopy of an original document. option-3: Make a black-white photocopy of an original document. Thank you.
