  1. Hi Dani My partner (28) and I (27) also moved to Brisbane at the end of last year. We both work in the city and live in the inner suburbs. PM me if you want to get together for a drink. Hayley
  2. We did the exact same thing. Moved out so my partner could be closer to his family, but due to the spread from Sunshine Coast down to Melbourne, we still don't see them often. I'm working a boring job that is below the level of my capabilities because no one wants to hire someone without 'local experience'. There is no socialising after work, people head home at 4pm but bars don't even open til 5pm at the earliest. I hate where I live, staying in means putting on a dvd as there is nothing on tv, going out means wondering the streets because the only place to go eat is a Sushi restaurant (I hate Sushi!). I am hoping that moving out of the Brisbane suburbs and being closer to the Gold Coast will remind me why I wanted to move here in the first place. I am also giving it four years before deciding whether to go back (been here 6 months).
  3. Hi Becca I'm Hayley, 26 and I moved to Oz just before Xmas. I am currently living near the Chermside/Strathpine area. PM me if you want to meet for coffee or have a shopping buddy
  4. Hi Anni We moved to Brisbane just before Christmas. We are Hayley, 26 and Richard, 27. We are based near Chermside, but are often popping into the city as we are both looking for work. PM me if you are interested in going for a drink one evening.
  5. I was thinking of Helensvale as it has a train link to the city. Is it an affordable area?
  6. The best tip given to me when researching this is to make it easy for Australian's to understand. In the profile I explained where I was from, why I have come to Australia and my Visa conditions. I also made it clear what kind of work I was looking for. Start your work experience section by first giving a couple of lines about the company. It is unlikely anyone would have heard of many UK companies so tell them the industry, how many employees, turnover etc. This way they can better relate to the tasks you are listing as they have an idea of the environment. I did a similar thing with the experience by giving the age and school year that I completed my GSCE's and A Levels, just to help them understand what these qualifications meant. I have been fairly successful in getting interviews and meetings with recruitment agencies after only a week of applications. All have commented on how easy to read my CV was, and I do think its down to the small changes mentioned. I hope this helps you.
  7. Thanks for the tip, TV sucks over here. Well worth the money :-) (P.S costs around $30, the 19.95 is the price in Euros.)
  8. I think it is just 3 years experience, irrelevant of whether you have become ACMA or not. If you have been working as an accountant for three straight years you should be fine. I would recommend talking to a migration agent, I used Immigration2Oz. Although I am on a spouse visa, when discussing my occupation I found they had lots of insight as to how to get Visa's for CIMA studiers.
  9. Hi I am currently studying CIMA in the UK. Moving to Oz in December. I'll be heading to Brisbane though. Did some research there last year and got positive feedback from recruitment agencies. I think you will do fine. Do you know if the MRA with CPA is still valid?
  10. Visa Granted!! Subclass 100, excellent. So glad I can finally start planning and get over to Oz.
  11. Congratulations! I also have SV, applied 15th Feb so hoping to hear something soon!
  12. I am also using Immigration2Oz and have found them to be very good. I felt I benefited from their experience and found they were able to give up to date information.
  13. Thanks for the info. My CO is also SV, I will not expect any news next week then.
  14. Hi everyone, I am new to the site. I have found it so helpful following everyones timescales as I continue the anxious wait for my visa to be granted. I am applying via an agent. I lodged on 15th Feb 2013 and had my medical on 21st May 2013 with police check a week later. When checking on the status of my visa application my agent said that some applications were being granted sooner than the 8-9 months but basically just sit tight until the time is up. I look forward to hearing when the Jan/Feb lodgers start getting their visa's granted!
