  1. In your previous post, you said that you were from a "high risk country" but it appears that you applied to the AHC in London? confused.com
  2. So, it appears that I am next in line!! Maybe I can take Rikkeskill's slot  datstheone 05/06 JM Granted 05/03 Rikkeskill 06/06 JM Nearly granted 05/03! 4. I swore that I wouldn't get into counting down the days/hours to the probable grant of my visa but, having lived through the excitement of the May applicants' grants, I have been well and truly sucked into it! So I have done some stalking on this thread for the last few weeks and I have identified the following june applicants. Have I missed anyone? sarah187 03/03(?) AW Rikkeskill 06/06 JM drew1975 08/06 WP LucySt 08/06 KC JonnoM 11/06 KP LouiseCT 16/06 WP MrsW27 24/06 CO unknown Let the excitement commence :jiggy: Just imagine if this forum didn't exist, we would be totally in the dark, not having a clue whether grants were happening or how much longer we were likely to have to wait.......
  5. Fantastic news Sophielouise, now you need to update your POI signature!! Hopefully my turn next week :jiggy: Good luck with your plans going forward from now. Today is the start of the rest of your life........
  6. What my email says is "Please note that the current processing time for partner migration is at least 8 - 9 months from the date you lodged your application." They put those words in bold, not me! We aren't in a typical client relationship here as the AHC is in total control of the situation, we the applicants have absolutely no contractual rights and we can't exactly take our business elsewhere!! Patience is the order of the day
  7. Errr..........that would be just Perth then :biglaugh:
  8. Wow, I though that we were going to go 24 hours without a single post in this thread but we came up 3 1/2 hours short :biglaugh:
  9. Hopefully too busy processing applications to waste time on small talk and pleasantries
  10. One important piece of advice is don't take so long doing it that a new version of the form is issued and you have to do it all again. That's what happened to me!! Another thing is that although it tells you to complete it in pen, you can actually fill in the fields electronically and save the pdf on your PC; it makes it much easier to modify and correct things as you go. They accepted mine done this way (in block capitals) so I don't think that it's a problem and it must make the CO's life easier when the don't have to decipher dodgy handwriting. There is a tremendous feeling of elation when you finally get it finished :jiggy:
  11. I think that they are redressing the balance after having granted PhoebeM 10 days early!

    Medicals

You don't hear unless there is a problem, which is pretty unsatisfactory as you have actually paid quite a lot of money for it!I mailed my CO a couple of weeks after the medical about something else and I took the opportunity to confirm that the medial was all OK.
  13. Thanks Andrew, this information has given me a great starting place to do some further research. Fortunately, I am not in any hurry to transfer investments from the UK and am able to do so in a phased approach. It seems that Australians are more keen to invest directly in property rather than in the stock market but, as my OH already has an investment unit in addition to our primary home, between us I believe that we are already overcommitted to property.
  14. Sorry,Rikkeskill you have been gazumped!! At only 3 days ahead of me in the queue, LucySt is now the closest known applicant to me......... :jiggy:
  15. PhoebeM seems to have been the only one who's grant has come in significantly under the 9 month mark (10 days early!). No grants announced this week; I wonder if the CO's have taken the week off for half-term? Be patient, it WILL happen next week :jiggy:
  16. Having made the decision that your future lies in Australia, what else is more important in your lives than finalising your application? Who killed Lucy Beale in Eastenders, who is going to win The Voice etc etc? Procrastination maybe hints that you are not fully committed to your decision yet......Bear in mind that previous procrastinators have found that a) the rules have changed an they are no longer eligible to even apply for a visa b) their fees have been increased by $1000's without warning c) their visa processing time has been increased by 40% or more Everything that you need to know is available from this website and from exploiting the knowledge of its amazing contributors. YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE !!! If you need to edit pdf's, https://www.pdfescape.com is your friend. Make sure that you understand how it works and save updates at every opportunity to avoid the disappointment of losing your input data. Whatever contributions and certificates you need from 3rd parties, request it all now so that things outside your immediate control are sorted as early as possible. This saves time and stress/frustration at the end of the process. Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh but either you are either truly committed to this plan or you aren't; if you are then crack on without further delay. This should be an exciting event in your lives, not a burden
  17. OK Rikkeskill, I am going to be stalking you for the next few weeks; you are only 5 days ahead of me in the queue !!

  19. I have no doubt that what I am currently doing with respect to the tax structure of my company in the UK is both legally and morally correct. The accountancy firm that I use are well respected, whilst being notoriously conservative, and would certainly not endorse anything "dodgy". Having looked at the 80/20 rule in Australia, it appears that this would prevent something similar being allowed in Australia and maybe the use of an umbrella company would be the easiest approach. Thanks for your feedback guys
  20. I own my own limited company in the UK where I am the company's sole employee, working aa a contract IT consultant. The tax situation in the UK is relatively straightforward - - Corporation tax paid annually in arrears (21% of company profits) - VAT paid quarterly in arrears - Salary paid to myself at minimum wage levels (Approx £10,000 p.a.) - Dividends paid to myself at a level that keeps me just within the basic rate of income tax (Approx £30,000 p.a.) I plan to close my UK company when I move to Australia later in the year and establish a new Australian one - Has anyone else got recent experience of running one-man companies in the UK and Australia? - How do the two tax regimes compare? Thanks in advance
  21. I am moving to Australia later in the year and I am giving some thought as to what to do with my UK investment portfolio which comprises stocks & shares and mutual funds. I currently use Hargreaves Lansdown in the UK to hold my investments and I assuming that there will be similar financial services companies in Australia although an initial internet search hasn't enabled me to identify an obvious equivalent yet. I plan to cash in most of my UK investments over the next year or two when the exchange rate is favourable and I would like to have a suitable investment account ready in Australia to re-invest in a similar portfolio. Does anyone have any recommendations of appropriate Australian financial services companies offering retail fund and stocks & shares investment accounts, dealing services and access to research data? Good customer service and products are probably more important to me than lowest fees. Thanks in advance for any recommendations, advice or suggestions.
  22. Congratulations!! I hope to be experiencing similar emotions in exactly 1 months time :jiggy:
