  1. totally agree with this. i lived in oz twice. didnt make friends the first time but made the best friends ever the second time. the only difference has been my attitude cause we are living in the same town we were last time. if people have trouble making friends they should look to themselves & how they are coming across.
  2. we went to sydney for the fireworks & it was brilliant. i thought we were made driving for nearly 6 hours with 2 children to get there but we talked to so many people who travelled from other countries to spend new years in sydney i started to feel like a local. such a lovely atmosphere with lots of families taking a picnic & mingling freely with tourists & all the little ones playing together. wonderful night.
  3. millions of people would disagree with you but then they would disagree with most of the things you say about oz.
  4. i was thinking more more along the lines of pretentious wannabes rather than snobs :biglaugh:
  5. i worked in a couple of kitchen in cairns when i backpacked in oz. they have aircon on so its not to hot & is no more humid than the kitchens i worked in during my student days in london. thinking about it the kitchens in cairns was better because of the aircon.
  6. retaining walls arent necessarily treated the same as fences & the cost of building them & maintaining them isnt necessarily a shared responsibility. i know this cause my husband is a builder & recently built a house on land that needed retaining walls on the property line. we are in nsw so sa might be different but i found this link on google from the legal services commission in sa that talks about retaining walls in sa. http://www.lsc.sa.gov.au/handbook/print/ch32s04.php
  7. public transport is more costly if you have to pay for it so if your budget will be tight it would be worth looking up costs in the area you want to move to. you could also use google to look around at the area you want to go to & see if it still has shops you would use & hasnt been taken over by pound shops or empty shops. no point moving to an area that forces you to catch transport somewhere else to get stuff. good luck with your plans. im sure if you want to go you will find a way to make it work.
  8. what about friends or could you not put up with his filthy for a short while? you could always clean the flat while you were getting on your feet. after i moved back to uk i was desperate to get back to oz & i would have lived in a cardboard box if thats what it took to get back to oz.
  9. dream on. theres about 10p difference to what you pay in your pub & what we pay in our pub in nsw.
  10. there are some on here who seem to feel a bit inferior to ozzies so take every opportunity to criticise everything they can
  11. my husband suggested i should take a few driving lessons in oz even though i had a licence just to learn about local driving customs & about the road rules that were different in oz to uk. i found it very helpful & one of the things i learned is to look to see the way is clear when the lights change to green just in case someone is still coming through. thats probably why traffic is just that bit slower to take off when the light goes green.
  12. im not sure how much of a new man you are when you are not being up front with your employer. it seems to me you are just as dishonest as before. trustworthy people dont hide things from there employers or from immigration.
  13. have you already forgotten all the posts you made talking about the posh restaurants you used to like to go to & how much money you spent lol? one example is post 34 in case you don't remember http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/chewing-fat/227320-525-meal-fat-duck-more-like-silly-ducks-4.html
  14. welcome to the forum home & happy. as you moved back to uk a number of years ago what prompted you to join a migration forum at this point? i know i joined when i realised i had made a huge mistake moving back to uk & wanted to come back to oz but your user name seems to indicate you are happy there.

    What to do?

i remember you saying you thought you made a big mistake shortly after you got back to uk. we felt the same way although to be fair my husband didnt want to go back in the first place & only did it for me. we managed to get back to oz so i hope you & your family can as well. i know it is a big expense & you can feel really stupid but for us it was worth every penny & every sacrifice we had to make. hope you can find a way back to oz
  16. probably because i prefer to wait for the outcome of the investigation before i join any witch hunts. i am surprised you dont know you cant just move a annual general meeting or leave out bits of the business of the meeting.
  17. well wouldnt that be based on the entire company performance for the last financial year? i dont think it's fair for people to holding her bonus against her unless the investigation shows she did something wrong.
  18. ive only holidayed in adelaide & done some travelling in south oz when on my working holiday before that but i thought it was fab. the city has a nice relaxed vibe with lovely old buildings & it isnt crazy busy but you can get everything you need or want. lovely pubs & cafes that were fab as well. travelling in the wine areas was beautiful & all the gorgeous little villages.
  19. seems cages dont always stop sharks either. this story was about a shark that got into cage in mexico the other day. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-10-14/diver-has-lucky-escape-after-shark-breaks-into-cage/7932696
  20. im not so sure it is a load of old toot. ive noticed loads of people stopped posting altogether over the last few months after continuously getting jumped on for saying positives about oz and heaven forbid if you say anything is better in oz. its ok for people to have different thoughts but a handful of posters dominate threads like the post police. for instance i think oz still offers more opportunity for children which is why i decided to start a family here when it was out of the question for us in the uk. ive learned not to say it though because last time i said it the post police were all over me like a rash.
  21. i dont think you really want to move otherwise you would of done it already.
  22. everyone seems to struggle to get low interest rate credit cards when they move back so you should put up some links to the ones you know about so people know where to get them. no point saying they are available if you dont say where to get them.
  23. apart from the amazing wildlife & fab scenery & beaches etc one practical difference in oz i love is having electrical sockets in the bathroom. even though i have been here several years i still enjoy plugging my hairdryer & straightener in to finish getting ready in the bathroom. still in the bathroom i love the showers in oz as well. they are the proper job & the water pressure is to die for. i also adore having a big seperate laundry room instead of having to do laundry in the kitchen. my laundry room alone is half the size of our flat in the uk was & its wonderful it rains in oz more than people think but its not such a problem because you dont tend to get endless days of grey skies with drizzling rain. when it rains it really rains but then the blue sky & sun comes back. we have little children & the great weather means we spend most of our time outdoors. there are lots of free bbq's at the beach & parks with gazebo huts & tables which is lovely. everyone seems to take care of them as well so they stay in working order & are nice to use. one big difference i noticed was that people tend to entertain at home rather than go to the pub. the houses in oz are generally a lot bigger so i guess that makes it easier to have people over. usually children are invited as well which is nice as we like to do things as a family. thats not to say people dont go out but they are more likely to go to a cafe for breakfast or brunch than to a pub.
  24. jack i dont know you & dont understand exactly how you are feeling right now but i do care that you are having a hard time & i wish there was something i could do or say to help you. please dont do anything rash.
