  1. I was hoping for sun, sun, sun after the rain we've had here! I better pack my wellies!
  2. Hi there. It's less than a month to go, before we leave the UK - excited! Were doing a stopover in Singapore, staying on Sentosa Island for 4 nights/5 days. We have three children, 13, 5 and 10 month. I would love to hear what activities people think are worth a visit? Places to eat? etc Also what weather to expect? I have a weather app on my phone and Singapore has been thundery showers for the last fortnight - do we take raincoats and umbrellas instead of bikinis and shorts!? Thanks
  3. Thanks, I will certainly take all of that into consideration when we are looking for somewhere, and I agree, rather get it right in the first instance, for stability for the children than for anything else....and at all costs will avoid mosquito prone areas!!!
  4. It certainly sounds like it has great potential, plenty for families, which is always a plus! As I said in the last post it sounds like where we are at the moment, with plots getting smaller, but very family friendly. We've got a short term let in Narangba with the idea that it will be easy to access to check out the likes of North Lakes and Mango Hill. Hopefully you can help me out with the low down on all these places when I arrive
  5. Hi Geraldine Thanks for the information, it's helpful. It does sound a little like where we live at the moment, I would prefer to be near my children's school as I feel they will have more friends that way, we live in the next street at the moment and my daughter has lots of children to play with What age were your boys when you moved out? I have a 13 year old boy who is not too keen on leaving home, I'm a little worried about how he will deal with missing family.
  6. hi there, thank you that would be nice, how long have you been out there and how are you finding north lakes? we have looked at that area as a potential place to settle, although there's a few on here that are quite negative about it!
  7. hi, I have a Daniel aged 13, moving to north Brisbane early July, he's really not keen as he will miss his family back home. this post has been reassuring. I'm wondering how other children his age have delt with missing family? I would also really like to meet up with mums in the area with boys n girls of a similar age
  8. Does your husband need to work 12 hours a day 6-7 days a week, it was mentioned that perhaps you should consider reducing your working hours for your daughter, but perhaps your husband could consider reducing his working hours to spend time with his family? I obviously don't know your circumstances and he may need to work that much, or may have a long commute, the latter could be resolved by moving?? We all want everything to be perfect when we are expecting babies, but in reality that's not always the case, voice of experience. For what its worth I also recommend that you stay together and if you do decide to return the xmas idea sounded a very good compromise. I hope you have a good friend network in perth to support you in the early days, if you decide to stay in oz, whilst your hubby is working. I wish you well with it all x
  9. We ended up getting a short term let off trip advisor, very nice and reasonably priced 4 bed with pool in Narangba, there was a fair few listings for Brisbane and surrounding areas on there, looking under holiday lets. Would recommend people take a look if trying to find reasonable short term accommodation in Oz. We also used this for our stop over accommodation.
  10. Hi Paul. Thank you. We sent the visa application off without the medical and police check. We were contacted within the week with a case officer, who then requested these documents. The child will need a medical, we went to Spire in Manchester, which cost us around £85-90 for a basic med with no blood tests or x-rays. You and your wife will both need to get a new police check £45. We were told it will take 7-8 months, that was back in Feb.
  11. I was thinking perhaps I would go with the baby for the few days, but it will obviously depend on a lot of things at the time. what does your hubby do? mine was a joiner, but will have just qualified as a civil engineer. do you have family in pottsville?
  12. thanks Debbie, the time is flying by, 6 week today! I'm trying not to think about leaving family and friends, although I'm sure I will find it very difficult,. I'm looking forward to more outdoor family time, especially as the weather has been so poor here this year. I'll stay in touch with you all and hopefully meet up when were all out there . Yvonne x
  13. yes I think it will be the cheaper option for me too, but either would be lovely I'm sure! I'm just hoping that it doesn't get processed for a good few months after we arrive! we have booked a lovely house in narangba, north Brisbane through trip advisor, removal booked and flights booked, still lots to do. were excited but worrying about jobs as neither of us have anything lined up. does your hubby have something to walk into? do you just have the one boy? I have another son and a little girl too. x
  14. Hi We were told 7-8 month early feb, and that they were running to those estimates at that time, so its likey to be September/October time. Our flights are booked for end of June, so I doubt we will have it before then. It looks like a trip to NZ or Bali for a few days, for me and my son, when they get processed. Have you thought about what you will do? We have to keep the CO informed of our movements, wondering when to do this? I will also need to apply for his temp visa. Did your CO give you any additional info i.e. est processing time? Where are you moving to?
  15. We've stayed in central Brisbane which is very hilly, so if that's where your staying make sure you take your hiking boots Some great things to do with the children there, it has its own beach/lagoon iat the Southbank and some lovely parks/botanical gardens, great for a city! We still have lots to do, but the flights and initial accommodation are booked, I've almost finished de-cluttering the house, not sure whether to sell or let our house yet, we keep changing our mind! Excited, but nervous about leaving all of my family and friends behind....wondering what I will do without my mum I will be leaving behind my dog that I've had for 14 years, too old to travel That's great that your husband has a job, were a little worried on that front, as neither of us have anything lined up yet.
  16. Hi Micklemuss, Have you arrived in Mango Hill? Were are flying out to Brisbane next month, staying in Narangba for the first five weeks, but have been looking at Mango hill and North Lakes as something long term. We will be looking for friends too I have children aged 13, 5 and <1.
  17. Hi there. Thanks for your reply. How are you settling in?
  18. Lovely, what date do you fly? Where abouts is your short term apartment? We fly out June 30th, but will not arrive in Brisbane until July 8th as we're stopping in Dubai and Singapore on the way How are you all feeling about the move? Yvonne x
  19. Sounds great, a little like where we live at the moment, only no doubt much warmer and prettier! Thank you!x
  20. Hi we’re a family of 5 (boy 13, girl 5 and baby boy <1) moving to North Brisbane July 8th, initially staying in Narangba. I work in research (health) and my husband was a joiner/carpenter, but will be graduating as a civil engineer next month. It’s taken 5 years in the planning to get to this stage and we can’t believe we’re finally making the move! We’re a very sociable family, and would love to hear from others currently in the Brisbane area or who are making the move there soon. Look forward to hearing from you
  21. hey. were a family of 5 with children aged 13,5 &6month moving out end of June. I've researched accommodation. endlessly thinking the same. however I Think we have decided on Brisbane holiday village, we stayed there 2years ago on a holiday and thought it was lovely. they do 1,2&3 bed corporate accommodation and on booking of 28nights or more there's a 50% discount, for the 2 bed it worked out to be $77 per night I think. were waiting on a price for the 3bed which was on two separate levels. it will also be quiet that time of year so I doubt they would be a problem extending the stay if you don't find accommodation quickly. I was originally thinking 3weeks, but it might make you settle for second best if you limit yourself...plus I think the deal on 28days will work out better than 3weeks??? the staff were very accommodating at the holiday village and was in a good location too and close access to the motorway.
  22. Great thanks. That's what I thought, but wanted to double check, plus I thought he could only get tourist visa for 3 month (didn't know if this would be long enough), but looks like you can apply for 3, 6 or 12 months stay.
  23. Hi Were emigrating to QLD in June. Myself and my husband will be entering on a previously validated visa, however we have had to apply for a separate visa subclass 101 for our baby boy. Submitted 31th Jan 13, appointed CO 5th Feb with estimated processing time of 7-8 months. We are allowed to emigrate with him before his visa is processed, but we are unsure on the type of visa we will need for him to enter and reside there on until his 101 visa is processed. I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you
  24. I managed to get a permanent visa for my child without my ex partners knowledge. my child was born before 2003 and we weren't't married so it just meant doing some signed declarations. however as previously said they can quite easily get parental responsibility if their name is on birth cert. my ex now knows and is not going to try stop me from taking our child, he's realised that oz probably has much more to offer than he can offer. hope you manage it
