  1. thanks - likely will be Ryde area for work.
  2. Sorry to ask a silly question BUT am I correct in assuming that I can now avail of the larger allowance for a flight departing December this year?
  3. Hi, as part of the thank you to the friends that are accommodating us during our reccie in Jan we would like to take them out for a *special* meal as a thank you – thinking meat rather than seafood and welcome to ideas on areas from central Sydney northwards to Pymble and beyond….
  4. Can anyone enlighten me on the best option for us (family of 4, boys will be 4 and 2) for public transport for our trip in January coming…? We want to use the ferries mainly and although we are hiring a car we will be happy to use the trains in from Pymble and then transfer to the ferry etc to “live the experience”, are there weekly passes worth availing of of just pay on the day? Is there an equivalent of the oyster pay as you go here in London?
  5. Can anyone shed some light on the schooling in this area – our two boys will be 5 and 3 when we arrive next August (all going well) and we would like to take the opportunity to have a look this Jan at the schools (from the outside as we understand with it being summer that they will be closed). We will be on a 457 so understand we’ll need to pay for schooling – not sure if relevant but ideally Catholic schooling if available. Thanks in adavnce
  6. Can you anyone enlighten me on this area as its one we are considering next year if our reccie goes well in Jan….all guidance welcomed and appreciated.
  7. No, it's because those in 'power' have thrown a few lambs to the wolves.....seriously ask yourself if if it was "just" celebs and not say 'the establishment' (MP's, Peers, Clergy etc) how on earth was it kept quiet for so long? Throw a few crumbs to the great unwashed, we all go " oh please not him/her/them" and ignore the others....
  8. Regrettably modern society makes this behaviour too easy. May god bless the soles of those who passed. May the public awake to the sickness spreading across our society. May we all wake up and realise that human intervention beats cyber BS
  9. Thanks for the clarification, I always get confused by F/X rates but you have simplified what can be a complex area....:biglaugh:
  10. Anyone think it all get closer to 1.8 /1.9 by December?
  11. Wow! I would find out the name of the customer service director and speak to them alone, go to the very top and don't stop till you do...
  12. my advice would be to email to request a brief meeting and do it face-to-face as its too important to simply email. It will have more credence and gravitas and enable you to start a conversation on the issue as an email can be misconstrued, misunderstood, ignored etc. In the initial email I suggest you mention that you would like a meeting a discuss the opportunity to become a permanent member of the team if an opportunity arose etc and that you would also like to discuss "a much more permanent" option also Good luck!
  13. part of the reason we are looking at moving to Oz is the allure of the beach & outdoor lifestyle (as it is/was for many I'm sure), the pictures on this thread reinforce the belief that its the right thing to do!!
  14. Hi all, looking to get my visa's for me, OH and 2 young ones for our trip down in Dec/Jan and cant seem to get this to work online :arghh: http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/evisitor/eligibility.htm is it me :nah:or am I doing something wrong....the site wont allow me to complete an application and I have tried numerous times and am getting frustrated... Thanks Brian
  15. Was there recently for a friends child's communion....lovely views and location....
  16. you forgot sharps doom bar and st austells tribute....slurrrrrppppp
  17. Thanks, I will have a look at online retailers and compare prices!
  18. Hi all, so flights are booked for next Jan for the 4 of us and I'm now looking at car hire etc for the duration of our trip (28 Dec - 24 Jan) looked at holidayautos.com and the price per child seat to hire was extortionate in my humble opinion ($11 per seat per day minimum, thus $600 for the trip!), i was already reeling from the fact that my 2 year old's tickets is only £30 less than mine!!!! :arghh: Anyway, I digress... does anyone have any advice on a better way of doing it? How much do they cost to buy nowadays in Sydney? I'd rather do that and then donate them to charity after the month than be ripped off by a "large" corporation!!! all help appreciated on best way forward / suggestions etc Thanks all
  19. Hi Mongrel, I personally don’t think the 'cuts' are far reaching enough to warrant all the talk of "austerity"....don’t make me laugh. :biglaugh:look at Greece, Spain and Ireland for real measures to tackle the issue of budget deficit...not wanting to get all political on the issue either however "new new Labour" have admitted to the problem with "new Labour's" open door and then of course we all know the Brown's bottom issue :err:with selling the Gold reserves don’t we? Anyway would be hypocritical of me to bemoan migrants per se as I intend to be one all going well. I thought it was also well documented that Labour reduced primary school spaces by 200k during the last years of their tenure :smile:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-21785796 "Schools Minister David Laws said the government was "reversing completely idiotic policies" followed under Labour that had seen 200,000 school places cut" (admittedly Labour dispute this):policeman:
  20. its a serious issue for those of us with young children, my eldest turns 4 this summer and we have applied for primary schools for Sept onwards....we have been told our first 4 choices we have “no hope” unless bulge classes are introduced, :rolleyes:the paradox being that this brings extra stress and worse schooling to the fore...we currently live in an outer West London suburb which has seen a huge influx of migrants from East Europe under ‘New Labours’ previous migration "policy" :arghh:and this is now impacting on availability as siblings have been given first priority from this Sept onwards…as such we face the unenviable prospect of driving 30-45 mins in rush hour London traffic and then back again to get our second son into pre school classes etc….its enough to make me plan a new life in Oz :biglaugh:
  21. I would imagine that they'll know you're on each flight and you'll be fine. It might be the same plane even!! Just ensure you're booked all the way at the first leg and it should be okay!
  22. Hi Paul, signed - wish you well in your quest.
  23. TThanks, better take your sage advice and start drinking it!
  24. Can one of the enlightened shine some light for me on a strange question I was asked yesterday? When shipping your worldly good to Oz what are the rules on alcohol? can you bring the single malts you've harvested for those special times  or not? ie what level of alcohol will "they" :policeman:consider for personal use? Thanks in advance
