  2. Closer to Cape Town by 60km than to sydney I believe I read somewhere along the way never been over that side of oz but will visit one day
  3. We became citizens on Australia Day this year the form tells you to wait 14 days before applying for a passport we had ours back within 20 days as we told them we were going overseas on 1st march ( there is section on application form to do this )
  4. I used to go in on a Saturday morning , also a neighbour worked in the city and caught this bus everyday he would leave and walk to Pittwater to catch the it around 7am get to his office before 8 things may have changed a bit more recently due to construction work at Frenchs forest The time I quoted are what it took , this was in 2015
  5. Agree with that prices in NW have just not moved we took the plunge nearly 4 years ago and bought a good sized block of land up in the hunter it's gone up in value a fair amount about to build our house which will make a massive difference to us financially , we only moved out of sydney 2 years ago.
  6. It's a life style change , any jobs up here for you ? Got to look at the long term gain But understand what you say about upheaval for your children good luck what ever you decide
  7. Have a look at Newcastle mate it's definitely on the up prices are starting to creep up a lot less traffic , beachs as good if not better best thing we did was move up to Hunter
  8. From my understanding if you are Australian citizen you should leave on your Australian passport as the form you have to fill in asks if it's a business trip , holiday or Australian citizen leaving permanently Enter uk on your U.K. Passport
  9. It was a lady, and we were told diffrent to what you are saying thats my experiance and just passing on what actually happenned to the OP.
  10. I am only stating what happened to us and what we were told by the boarder control officer at Manchester airport upon arrival
  11. We were told by the boarder security officer that legally if you have a uk passport you are required to present it, we told them that we had recently become dual citizens and produced both and were told we had followed the correct procedure , no complications what so ever
  12. Ther is a fast bus L90 i think which goes along pittwater road used to take 50min to get to circular key from mona vale
  13. we showed our Australian passports because we were in the non eu channel, the uk/eu channel queue was going to take 15 min to get through so we went through non eu and just asked which one we should use straight through in 2 min
  14. Went back to uk in March , first time as Australian citizens , we had to show our Australian passport to leave and upon return , when we arrived in uk we used the none eu immigration channel and showed both which the officer said was the correct thing to do , a lot quicker as well ! Flights were booked with our uk passport details as we had not become citizens at the time of booking
  15. It's a terrorist attack same as the other ones , no place in society for people like this But and there always is a but , as others pointed out in other threads we need to understand the cause of these people works both ways I suppose
  16. Agree both parties have been in government over the period since they were first built , they are all the same to a degree it's about time they all started putting the people's interest first
  17. But it was a labour local government , I accept there are posters who hate the current government but people need to stop frothing it's get the country nowhere what is needed now is clear and rational thought and a process to make sure we can prevent something like this happening again, in time it will come out who signed off and agreed to what , if the products meet current legislation and regulations then there is the problem the regulations need to be updated.
  18. I agree , first priority is to help family's and people affected first hand ,and then let the inquiry do its job. I thought the government had put 8 million aside into a fund to help them ? I have recently worked on fire upgrades here in oz as a subcontractor , after 6 weeks I terminated my contract as the main contractor wanted to cut too many corners , he ordered and fitted access panels that did not comply with current regulations , it was picked up at the final inspection, and cost him more money than to have fitted the correct ones in the first place serves him right. unfortunately it's all about the bottom line today and how much people can make and save , in construction today 99% of the time it's how quick can you do the job and can you do it cheaper
  19. The reason I looked this up and posted was in response to how the mob reacted , people need to look at the big picture and not jump to conclusions before getting the full facts , to be blaming the current government is a complete joke and the way it is being played out is unreal , this never happened after the Bradford disaster the country pulled together , there are many factors involved in this tradgic accident and if any good comes from it will be the new legislation that gets put in place that will save lives in the future. I doubt many people even new there had be a new bill , did you before I posted it up ?
  20. Philp Hammond quote about the bill : "the approach to introducing new regional structures for the fire service is based on the boundaries of the Government Offices for the Regions, most of which are inappropriate for this purpose and are not sufficiently accountable in the absence of elected regional assemblies; and because some key measures to promote fire prevention, particularly requirements for greater use of sprinklers, are not strong enough or are absent in the Bill" He also asked and was against the fire service charging for extraction and wanted it addressed. He was also concerned the fire service weren't getting a proper say on the bill.
  21. The Tories opposed the new fire safety rules Labour wanted back in 2005, due to one of many reason's, it not including the widespread use of sprinklers. Phillip Hammond was the party spokesperson who stood up and told parliament that day the bill didn't go far enough on fire prevention and wanted it amending At the time labour voted not to have a 2nd reading of the Bill , this was the first time it had been updated since 1947.
  22. Just been reading up on the 2005 fire and rescue bill, interesting reading and how the vote went That this House declines to give a Second Reading to the Fire and Rescue Services Bill because the Bill is granting to the Secretary of State too many powers to intervene which is against the thrust of the Government's stated approach to modernisation of the Fire and Rescue Service and will undermine local accountability; because the approach to introducing new regional structures for the fire service is based on the boundaries of the Government Offices for the Regions, most of which are inappropriate for this purpose and are not sufficiently accountable in the absence of elected regional assemblies; and because some key measures to promote fire prevention, particularly requirements for greater use of sprinklers, are not strong enough or are absent in the Bill.
