  1. Given that she has no clue I would recommend she takes a her time when moving here, go to open days, study days, visit a lot of different colleges/uni, get unpaid work placement for a week or so, interview people in areas she likes and do her research. Depending on what she decide on, there are many start dates and she is young. I work as a student advisor in Brisbane and I'm amazed at how many students are dropping out, with a huge student debt and no degree/diploma to show for it with the main reason being they didn't know what they were getting into. She can perhaps work part time until she starts studying. http://www.gooduniversitiesguide.com.au/Latest-news/Getting-into-university/How-to-choose-a-course-if-you-re-not-sure-what-you-want-to-do#.V62il1fVNSU this site might be helpful
  2. Hi Another option to look into housesitting/pet sitting unless you have allergies or don't like animals. A friend of mine did this when she moved to US and it worked out very well for her. I have found two sites you can check out. https://mindahome.com.au/house-sitting-positions-australia.html and https://www.aussiehousesitters.com.au My understanding of it, is that you look after the house and any pets the owner has and you get to live for free. My friend has done it a lot when moving around with a small budget. Might be an option to consider. Best of luck.
  3. Hi I arrived in Brisbane 1 May last month and started a permanent job on the 16th May. I got permanent resident visa. Is it correct I will have less in the tax free allowance until I have lived here for six months? I'm used to do my own tax return from my home country so will continue with that, do you have any advice or things I need to be aware off when I do my tax return? many thanks.
  4. Thanks for the taking the time guys to answer. I travel a lot so just wanted to know what to be aware of. My PR visa ends in November next year so from that time I have to stay here until I got two years on my visa. my partner is Australian but since I already have the PR we want to avoid having to apply for de-facto partner visa. I aim to buy a property within the next year here if all goes well. That should help in the RRV if I end up needing it. If Im here long enough I will get citizenship. thanks again

  14. Hi Not sure if this is the right place but here goes. My father in law is thinking of renouncing his UK citizenship and get his Sri Lankan back but he is worried if it means he will lose his State old age pension from England. He is an UK and Australian citizen now. He worked in London for 12 years and it is the old age pension from those years. Can anybody provide me with a link or a place to contact? Thanks
  15. Hi I'm wondering if anybody can recommend any recruitment agencies to work for as a recruitment consultant in either Brisbane or Melbourne? I have permanent resident visa and I'm now looking for work as a Recruitment Consultant as that is something I have always wanted to try. I'm a Careers advisor from Denmark with my postgrad and MA from England in Career guidance and work experience from Bath and Bristol as well. I hope someone can help me or share some relevant experience in getting a job as a Recruitment consultant, from overseas as I'm still in Denmark but can move within one month. I have family I can live with in Brisbane and friends in Melbourne. Thanks
  16. Hi I was wondering if anyone can tell me about casual admin temping work in Melbourne? is is easy to find, even just one day here and there, are the plenty around if Im not too picky. I keep reading how difficult it is to get ozzie work experience... I do have PR but havent moved yet as I still only have around 10.000 dollars saved up. I work as a a career and youth counselor in Denmark and am Danish.
  17. Hi Am really sorry to hear about your loss, I hope you have happy memories to think of. As others have said perhaps a visit to yr GP will be a good start. Enjoy your holiday, take in the sun and just take deep breathe. And perhaps tell your girlfriend you need some time to sort yourself out and it will be best to be friends nothing more for a while. She is not getting younger and no need for wasting time, life can be short enough as you sadly know too well. Be good to yourself
  18. Hi I wrote in mine why I wanted to live in ACT, what I like about the area and being public sector educated I thought it would be a good place for mine career. I also wrote about my personality and how it would fit in. hope it helped a little bit
  19. Great post, I will be moving all by myself in 2015 probably so nice to hear stories like this. Im trying to save up so I will have about 20.000 dollars. Im a simpel woman so no need for fancy things or a car but since I dont know how difficult it will be to find work I will wait a bit. I work as a career counselor and got my PR in sep 12, it looks like community service jobs might the way for me, exciting times. Anyway, great to read your post :-)
  20. Hi ACT occupation list are online and updated if you look at the date in the button of the page, it says 1 September, the limited and closed occupation are also on http://www.canberrayourfuture.com.au/portal/migrating/article/act-occupation-list/ Am very glad my PR visa with act sponsorship was granted last year, career counselor is now closed for applications.

  22. Hi I was wondering if anybody have been able to find a job where the company paid for relocation cost? Where they are not a nurse, doctor and so forth. Im a career counsellor, mentor and coach for young adults in Denmark. If anybody know some good job sites please let me know, I know seek.... I got permanent visa
  23. Just read in the guidelines canberra residents need 6 in the English test and overseas residents need 7. http://www.canberrayourfuture.com.au/portal/migrating/ Maybe the op is talking about working holiday visa?.
  24. If you are granted a visa with state sponsorship, you will have to live in ACT the first two years, morale obligation, not an legal condition at the moment.
  25. Forgot to say most visa holders need to have competent English which is 6 in all 4 tests in IELTS test, he may need to find the time for the test...but as said look on the skills select website, all the info is there.
