  1. OMG!!!! I've been dreading the bed spider incident, but this comes a very close second........ Poor you
  2. We are in Altona, and although my partner is working in Werribee, he cycles to/from work, I am reliant on trains/trams/buses and whilst looking for an Admin job some employers wont touch you if you have to travel too far, even though I explained that I was willing and able too. Just another thing to bear in mind if one of you still has to find employment when you get here.....
  3. That is so touching, I know Fairy Glen a lovely spot... *hugs* I read up so much on this subject before we immigrated, but it is such a dark area, and the bigger risk of customs taking the ashes away doesn't bare thinking about. I was going to scatter my two dogs ashes at their favourite walks at one point and then I wanted to bring them with me but was too scared to. I have left them with family and would love to have the situation cleared up once and for all so I can bring my precious babies back over with me next time I visit the UK ...
  4. I've only been here since the end of October, and I know I might get a bit homesick in the months to come, but as yet I'm loving the place, texting, phoning, face booking and skyping my family regularly. I'm VERY close to my family, I'm the youngest of 15 children, with countless neices and nephews and used to big family gatherings, joined them on "their" New Year on Skype, but they loved talking to their wee sister who is brave enough to make the move some of them have been unable to do for whatever reason. It was a happy time though, listening to their plans of coming to visit etc., I suppose if you dont dwell on it, it's easier dealt with, take every day as it comes...... Missing watching the bhoys play though..... and all the fitba banter......, sausage meat and tenants lager......
  5. I'm Scottish, and love it here!!! Obviously the weather is the biggest shock lol I think it's the person themselves, where your at in your life. Don't get me wrong I miss Scotland, love the place, and if we hadn't been able to immigrate for whatever reason we would have happily settled in Scotland, ( I was living in England with my partner a year and half before immigrating). I don't think the miles matter if your away from your family and your oldest friends, been no different from living in England for me!!!
  6. God feeling well robbed now, our vet was in Wakefield, you'd have thought Leeds would have been dearer!!!
  7. Hi Claire, We arrived here on 27th October, Lived in Werribee for a wee while, then Maribyrnong, we've eventually settled in Altona. My partner is a nurse and I'm trying so hard to find a job, loads out there and I've had a few interviews, but no luck yet. Apart from job hunting and visiting my wee dog in quarantine I've not much going on, I'd love to meet up for a coffee/chat with you......
  8. We used copies of valentines, birthday cards and christmas cards etc., we didn't have any joint bank accounts, the only official things we had were our Council Tax Bill and our polling cards so we also wrote a letter saying we had opened up our facebook accounts to the public so they could be checked over, as they showed when we met, moved in together etc.,.......
  9. Know how you feel, but please dont worry..... (easy said I know). Our 'baby' a 2 year old chocolate lab arrived in Oz on Thursday, he was fine, we had been so worried. But honestly they do adapt so quickly. We had to leave him at the kennels for 6 weeks prior to his flight as we had to get out here pretty sharpish in the finish up!! We went to see him on Friday he did go a bit crazy and it was very emotional, but he seemed no worse for ware. It was horrible leaving him there, but it was the flights I was dreading and he coped fine. Once your dogs have landed you'll feel better once you know they are here and settled.
  10. Looks like I was robbed........ I remember getting my vet to quote for the final 4 blood tests so we could budget after our shock rabies bill, and they were going to be £200 more than we ended up paying the vet at the shipping company for doing it, which you would think would be dearer. As if it isn't costly enough...... Shows it pays to shop around.......
  11. Also most of the properties are in that bad of a state their glad to get them rented out in the first place........
  12. I'm new to the forum, came on a bit before we moved here, but that many conflicting stories I stopped coming on. Only back on for the banter and to see if I can offer genuine help to anybody. We've acutally been through the process of arranging accommodation for our dog here in Oz - the competion for renting here in Altona too is very high. We viewed 12 houses in 5 hours in this area and there was more people viewing them than there is people in Sauchiehall Street on the last shopping day before Christmas!!! Saying that though we applied for 4 houses, got offerered them all......... know what I'm saying...... we listened to the scare mongering and nearly decided not to bring our dog. So glad we done our own research..... Big thing is to offer a extra bit of bond money they'll snap your hand off for it...... I wish you lots of luck with your dogs. Our dog is flying out as we speak, he'll be with us in our new "dog friendly" home in a month and we can't wait to see him again!!!!
  13. Long shot - do you have anything left, if I'd seen this earlier we would have taken the lot!! We are starting out with nothing and need EVERYTHING.......
  14. Although 30 days a long time, there's a good reason for it - so we just have to grin and bear it!! Too late for my wee dog he flies out tomorrow - to Spotswood - was reassuring to read your comments Jewels&John because we are so worried about him in quarantine. We are in Altona just a short train ride to Spotswood so we will be visiting, we thought we wouldn't incase it unsettled him if we could only go once or twice, but Spotswood is so close we can go see him a few times He has been in kennels in the UK for 6 weeks already bless him, so I'm sure he'll settle down in Spotswood pretty well. (Hope so).
  15. We hadn't budgeted that much for it - BIG shock!! We just used our usual vet for everything as it was easier, but yeah shop around and I wish you luck!!!
