  1. One which keeps poping up here is Go Matilda, the agents who are mara registered are the more trustworthy
  2. Yep, its the 457 path I'm hoping to follow.
  3. Couple of years ago it was the only way to go :biglaugh: Sorry not much help I know but......
  4. Age - 0 IELTS - 20 Work Ex - 15 to 20 Degree - 15 Total - 50 to 55 Damn I still cant come :ssign8:
  5. Regards the age, this is the policy. Age Children under the age of 18 are generally considered dependent. If the child has turned 18 years of age, they must be financially dependent on their visa holding parent, except where the child has a disability that stops them from working.
  6. I stand corrected :notworthy: Does he make comfortable benches tho........
  7. Joiners were very useful when I worked for British Coal, well someone had to make the benches for us to sit on  The good old days of timber joist supports ........ Nah seriously tho, joiners are useful but whether they'd be underground in a modern day mine is doubtful.

Right thats better, took out the bilge, so you agree  it is age-ist. Had a look at the UK equivalent to the 175 visa, the Tier 2, a very similar selection criteria except, yep you guessed it, age requirement. ps don't think all the troubles with illegal immigrants in the UK is being caused by the geriatrics

Why do you keep bringing up the UK ? I was hoping to discuss as to whether the current system favours youth over experience, if you cannot discuss this topic please dont.

My only hope to meet up with you convicts then, is if an unsuspecting company picks up this geriatric healthcare timebomb and sponsors me on a 457 visa

Ah well, better go learn Bengali then :err: That will benefit Oz...........

    Ageist scoring

This is better, what if in the 17 years I'd be "productive", I "produce" more than a 35 year old who, just because he is a certain age "produces". There is more to a persons worth than their age. As to whether DIAC has the resources to investigate the overall effectiveness of each candidate I dont know, but it seems its discouraging a numbers of people who could contribute to Australia just because they are over 45.

Whats this got to do with my question regards the weighting of the selection criteria being heavily biased towards those younger than 46 ?
  16. Congrats, not jealous much ...... Which company Billiton, Rio or Xstrata ? Nebosh ??

What about if you have payed into both National Insurance plus your own private pension for 32 years and have a nice lump sum (home equity). So pensions are covered plus I'll be paying my own medical insurance.

Whats the problem with that though ?
  20. Do you think that the current DIAC points score is heavily weighted against people over 45 ? I'm only gripeing because I'm 48 :arghh:
  21. Most large companies have their own careers section where you can register and apply direct to them rather than through a 3rd party agency. BHP Billiton, Xstrata, Rio Tinto etc
  22. I'm too old basically for any type of independent/state sponsored visa, and my chances of gaining a 457 are better if I advertise myself as an electrician rather than a manufacturing engineer. Where's my screwdriver ?? Oh better sharpen that knife too ....
  23. Do you score enough points ? 65 Dont forget that you have to be able to prove whatever you claim, years experience etc.
  24. Dont know if they were actually recruiting, but if you had all the required background they were encouraging you to supply them with your contact details etc. Hi Joys, I'm a manufacturing/production engineer here in the UK, but I'm also a time served electrician. I think that if you have a background in civil or electrical engineering you should have no trouble gaining a visa. Myself I think I'll have a better chance of gaining a 457 Visa if I try to secure employment as an electrician as there seems to be a greater call for them rather than a production engineer. Vetassess here we come
  25. Well quite an informative session, nice to put a face to Mark of Hr Connexions, sorry didn't get to speak to you, too big a queue. So many of the attendees must have lied on the input criteria as I waited in line listening to so many blatant untruths and people who could not verify their qualifications or experiences, yet because they are 20 years younger than garner more points. So its project 457 here we come, not put off but more determined !!!!
