  1. Another question, probably for Mr Collett again (sorry Alan), Is the $20,000 cost for the new temp visa per parent? I can't seem to work it out, if it is, then it's on with the 143 for us
  2. Sounds like a good plan Kath, Unfortunately, or not as we see it, we've already sold our house. When we made the decision to apply, the housing market wasn't that good and as we were then looking at two years or so for the visa time we thought it might take a while to sell, as it happens, it sold after first viewing for asking price. That's Ok cause at least the monies in the bank and thats one more thing we don't have to worry about. We spent Christmas 2014 and 2015 with them and went back again for a couple of months for the birth last year, which has cost us quite allot, not that I'd change anything, but to save costs this year, we've paid for them to come here for a visit (grandma can't wait for June to come) so that's this year taken care of. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens going forwards. Regarding giving up jobs, I can do mine remotely, so could carry on working from OZ and I'd be more than happy to pay OZ tax on my income, also meaning I wouldn't be taking a job away from an OZ citizen. Everyone wins in this scenario, we get to live where our hearts are, our daughter gets child care, so she can go back to work and contribute, grandma gets to be with them both, I continue to work and pay the government their taxes and our healthcare costs, so they don't have to worry about us negatively impacting on the economy. I just wish the OZ government would consider all age groups of grandparents regarding this new visa and not just aged ones. Not all grandparents are wanting to move to OZ just to take up permanent residency in the doctors surgery, there are allot, like us, who are able and very willing to move there and contribute. Maybe they should reconsider their assessment of how to improve the cash cow visa machine. We've already committed to give them over $90,000 up front for the 143, which they can still have, all we are trying to do is find a way of getting there and contributing sooner. WHY WON'T THEY LET US WORK ?????? it doesn't make sense. 10 year maximum stay, no pathway to permanent residency, $20,000 fee and not allowed to work. Perfect recipe for increasing the already high number of illegal immigrants.
  3. So Currently, we are in the 143 waiting line and only having applied on June 1st last year, we are in for a long wait. We've been to OZ on 4 separate occasions now for a total of about 7 months altogether, which in itself has cost a small fortune, but he, ho. We've been looking at every alternative to get to OZ sooner, not just because we don't want to wait another two years, probably three by the end of the process, but because we've now got an Ozzy granddaughter, soon to be six months old, so her mum and dad need us now, while she's young. And we want to be with them. We honestly thought this new visa would be a viable option, but I can't get my head around why they will not allow us (or me at least because grandma will be babysitting) to work, surely this would be better as I would be contributing to the economy and there's no way I'm shelling out $20,000 on a visa that doesn't allow us to work, but allows them to kick us out after 10 years. Not sure what to do now, should we apply for a 600 and renew? should we apply for the new temp visa, but only ask for three years, in the hope that our 143 is granted within that time frame? I will happily accept any advice offered.
  4. Thanks Kath I simply cannot understand why parents would not be allowed to work. They comment on how much money these visas will generate, but surely a working parent will also be contributing to the budget. Also, no pathway to permanent residence will lead to more parents staying illegally after the visa runs out. And, how do they think it will effect the parents and their children if they are to return home to their original country of origin after forming a complete new life for the past 10 years. Ah well, the 143 it is then.
  5. Yes you can, it states this in the attachment in your earlier post.
  6. Hi Kath I understand I might not be able to work, whuich isn't really a problem, I'm just trying to get us there as soon as poss and we can still continue with the 143, so at least we will be in OZ while we wait for the full visa, maybe !!!!!!!!
  7. From reading of all your posts and having thought about this allot, we're now just waiting for details of the new 5 year visa in July, like I've said, we only applied on June 1st 2016, so we're looking at at least another two years just to get a case officer, toooooooo long, hoping the new visa will be a valid alternative for us.
  8. Hi all Well, I have to be honest and say me (the wife and I) are feeling very deflated, we only lodged on June 1st 2016, so God only knows how long we will have to wait. We're really hoping this new 5 year visa will have a positive effect on waiting times, or better still, be a viable alternative that we may go for ourselves. Admittedly, we waited a few years to make sure our daughter was truly settled before making the decision to apply, but boy oh boy do I wish we'd applied back at the beginning of 2014. Ah well, as the wife keeps telling me, stop worrying, its an adventure. That said, I'm truly happy for all of you who are almost there, good luck to ya, go for it. Bry
  9. Hi Tuosist We too are in a similar position to gafuk however, we only applied for our CPV a year ago, so unfortunately have a slightly longer wait. That said, I'm constantly looking at possible opportunities for when the move comes and I wonder if you think it would be worth me contacting your organisation just yet? We are both 50, but I guess we will be 52/53 when the visa comes, I currently work (last 5 years) in the consumer protection market in the UK, holding the position of Operations manager for the scheme and its insurance arm and specifically manage the complaints and claims departments. I'll do anything to be honest as we have no intention of becoming a burden to the Australian tax payer however, I really like what I do for a living and would love to continue in something along the same lines when we get to OZ . Are you able to share contact details of your organisation so that I could investigate future possibilities further? Thanks in advance Bryan
  10. Thanks for posting 8CPA That definitely answered my query. We have become a little more patient over time, which is probably due to having kids in the first place, so have decided not to fo for a 600, At the end of the day, it's only money and time and if we run out of both before the visa comes, it won't matter anyway. We might just see what is involved with the 5 year one in July, but other than that, we're rubbing our ear lobes whilst softly chanting woooosaaaa !!! I'm glad it all worked out for you and I'm sure now that your sorted, the wait and hoops you jumped through don't seem as bad now. Well done you and good luck to ya. Bry
  11. At this rate, I'm wondering whether we should have gone for the 173 and saved the $100,000
  12. Hi Sue Believe me, we exhausted all other visa options before making the 143 decision, including sponsorship and the 457. Our problem was turning 50 which basically removed all options other than the 143. I know you can't work on a 600 and would not intend to and I wouldn't do anything to jeopardise the 143, I was just looking at possible or alternative routs of getting there sooner because of the ever increasing waiting time. This is what prompted my query about your 600 visa being valid for three years. Sorry for the confusion Bryan
  13. Hi all Having been to Oz 4 times in the last 5 years, my wife and I also applied for the 143 on 1st June 2016 for much the same reasons as fisher1 above. Our daughter has just given birth to our second grandchild last November and thankfully we were able to be there for the big occasion. I'm already sick of the time lines constantly being extended, don't get me wrong, I understand the reason behind it, but I can't help getting more and more annoyed. We discussed and pondered the move for quite some time before making the decision to apply, but we decided that we only truly feel at home when we are in OZ and can't wait to get there. We've already sold our house, so the money is ready and waiting, we just want to get out there and not have to come back. I'm now 50, and on current time scales we will be 53 before we even get a case officer, which means I'm always becoming more unemployable. Having read this trail, I'm wondering if we too should apply for a 600 visa just to get us out there. However, my concern is that I don't want to do anything that will effect our 143 application and as far as I can see the 600 visa only allows you to stay for no longer than 12 months. I understand Sue's explanation above says her visa is valid until March 2020, but I wonder if this is correct? Does that not just mean the visa is valid for use until March 2020? Unless I'm wrong (which I hope I am Sue) that doesn't mean you can go for 12 months, leave for a week and return for nother twelve months and son on until the visa's expiry date. I truly hope I'm wrong Sue and if I am, I too may be applying for a 600. Best regards Bryan
  14. Hi. We applied 1st June 2016. Paid first Vac payment. Got receipt. been on our Immi Acc this morning and it says "no application found" please help!
  15. in the new five year parent visa does it state that you can work whilst there?
  16. surely there must be a quicker way if you have sufficient funds? we would need to work over there but missing our grand child growing up is very sad
  17. trying to work out time scales. we applied June 2016 and it's now approximately 30 months processing time, I can't see this getting and shorter only longer so I'm thinking it's going to be about 40 months by the time we are processed.....am I thinking this right?
  18. Everyone waiting patiently..... is there a quicker way to get there? is there a visa that would let us work in Oz whilst waiting for contributory parent visa? we are 51 years old, would want to work. applied in June 2016 any suggestions greatly appreciated.
  19. hi Dave we are 51. we would want to work whilst we are there too.
  20. hi, we applied for the normal contribution parent visa. Our daughter has had a baby now and we are thinking of the quickest way to get to Oz basically. As we are both over 50 this was the only option available. I read about 173 thinking it was an on shore application.....obviously I read it wrong. We were thinking of going and applying onshore for a visa but don't know if this is possible or an option really. any advice greatly received thankyou Alan
  21. Hi, thinking of changing to the 173 visa and applying in Australia as onshore application. anyone else done this ? how long did the process take? just weighing up all the options to get there sooner. thanks for any help in advance
  22. We applied 1st June 2016 does anyone know an approximate time scale as to getting a visa? it was 24 months but now seems a lot longer. any guess or ideas greatly appreciated
