  1. I know exactly how u feel!! We're due to exchange next week on our house. We too are heading to the GC in Sept!! I've spent more time going out with my friends lately than I ever did before. TBH I'm bricking myself. What if I don't make friends, kids hate it etc, etc... We had to sell to finance the move. I'm sure it'll all be good, but boy is it feeling real now!!
  2. What shocking news for you. Stay strong and kick the B into touch. Stay positive xx
  3. Freebo, whats Sanctuary cove like to live on? We've been looking at houses online around there and hope is, genesis, river links etc.. We like the look of the modern contemporary builds. I also like the look of Oxenford. We visited a couple of years ago so know the Gold Coast is where we prefer as a family.
  4. Yep, that's why we've chosen the commute over Brisbane.
  5. Hi Tina. Do you mind telling me the name of the companies you have taken quotes from? We're due to exchange contracts next week and I need to get a move on, literally.
  6. Forgot to say that the tourist information centre in Cleveland were really helpful. The lady in there told us all about the area, shopping, cinemas etc.. Couldn't do enough to help us!
  7. They were the areas we looked at on our reccie. We went along to a couple of open days. The properties nearest to Ormiston College are the nicest. Raby Bay near Cleveland is lovely. We've since decided that we prefer Helensvale which is in the Goldcoast but on the corridor to Brisbane. When we talked to some of the locals (everyone we talked to was really nice), they told us that the commute from those suburbs into Brisbane is about the same as the one from Helensvale. They're quite far out from the CBD. The coast line around there is mangrove with a couple of small sandy beaches not too far away for an after work stroll. Cleveland has a good shopping precinct and lots of nice independant shops. We decided that since we're moving this far we may as we'll go for the full package which for us was the beach coupled with the hinterland behind us (stunning)! Oh is prepared to commute and there are some great schools nearby. Enjoy your reccie and have an amazing time x
  8. Yep, we're taking everything.
  9. Thankyou. Silly question alert....compressed air?
  10. I know I've seen this question asked before but, how clean is really clean? Can we take the jigsaw, circular saws etc, and is it worth it? How do we get all the saw dust out? Didn't think I'd ever be asking that question. Husband isn't a tradie so these aren't professional tools but still expensive. Just started to sort out everything, got to be out of house in Aug. we've been having heated debates about what we should take. Is it ridiculous to pack the watering can? I want to take it all because it all adds up when you have to replace it. For those of you who've made the move what would you recommend?
  11. Dont be put off by comments that Coomera is a bad area. If you have FB join the Coomera home page. It's a great community. Upper Coomera is the less desirable part but the other parts are supposed to be really nice. (Good & bad streets anywhere). We're moving over in September and will be renting in the area. People I know who live on Genesis don't have a bad word to say about it!
  12. We're moving over in September. Moving to Coomera! Would be good to catch up with u. Moving with 10 yr & 18 yr olds!!
  13. Gone is the dawn chorus of the sparrow, replaced by the parakeet squawk here in London!!
  14. Yep, we're moving over with the same sentiments. Good luck:biggrin:
  15. Telling DD 18 that she had to take her posters down !!!! She didn't take to kindly. It's murder keeping the house tidy too, lol. good luck on Wednesday.
  16. hi Paul. We're hoping to head off in September to Brisbane. The estate agents reckon it takes on average 2 weeks to sell round here. Ours it up for silly money too but yesterday we had loads of people hanging around outside and trying to get in before the 'launch' next Saturday. We don't have jobs to go to either. I can imagine we're going to be getting a lot more stressed in the comming months! I'm glad we're not the only ones, it's reassuring that others feel the same too in a funny kind of way. You're right though, what an adventure  Good luck to you.
  17. Thanks John. It's just the unknown. Glad your've made it work, hope it does for us to.
  18. Yep, it's the silly things that wake me up at night. There's so much to do!!
  19. That's exactly how I feel. I don't feel any emotional attachment to the house but I'm beginning to feel out of my comfort zone. Ive always been a really confident person but wow, what we're doing is huge. I know I'll be fine, all of us have wanted this move for years and have spent so much time planning. Just want the house gone now.
  20. Like the title says, our house is now up for sale. This is the first time since our decision to emigrate that I'm beginning to feel a little bit anxious. Don't get me wrong, I still really want to go but it all feels very real at the moment. It's weird seeing the house on the internet. You don't just sell anymore, it's all about gearing up to an open day which seems to be a new thing here. I wouldn't call the house a labour of love (it took up a huge chunk of our family time), I now have enough building experience that I could probably pass as a tradie now . Did anyone else feel like this when they came to sell or am I just being a wussy?
  21. Our local Seconday, which my DD attended, has an amazing head teacher. When DD started it had only just come out of 'special measures'. Due to our location it was the only school we were offered. Turned out to be the best thing ever. The new head came in and introduced discipline to both staff and pupils. She turned it around completely and didn't take any crap from anyone. It achieved 'outstanding' status last year, so not all schools are the same as the one described in Op.
  22. Sad news indeed if the rumours are to be believed which they probably are. Only got to see them once in the 80's at Wembley. Would loved to have seen them again.
