Yep, can relate to that. Set off today (albeit on public transport), day at London Zoo we thought. Forget that.....two hrs from ours to the Zoo (50 min journey) queue snaked around Regents Park! Ended up rowing around the boating lake for an hour instead :biggrin:. Got to love the UK bank holidays!

Thats really cool. My cousin in Bracknell gets Red Kites stopping by. I adore birds of prey. Hope we get Buzzards and the likes in the garden when we move over.

It's the paraquets in our garden that make all the noise. Bird song doesn't bother me one little bit, but the pesky wood pigeons!!! We call them the Gang of Four. OH loves his white lilac tree but the little b****s strip it bare. It always cracks the kids and me up when we see him launch himself out into the garden with his arms flapping everywhere. They just fly off into next doors trees planning their next attack:biggrin:

'Londoners' in the true sense of the word are a dying breed. There are fewer & fewer 'white British' Londoners now than ever before. When I look at my kids friendship groups less than half of them are 'British'. I'm not even sure that it's a bad thing. These kids are from mainly Eastern Europe but they integrate well into our society and their parents are for the most part hard working and lovely. What did bother me though was when I worked in an inner City school. 80% were from ethnic backgrounds and 60% of the families were claiming income support. Now that really bugs me!

Your quite right. I had friends who were in negative equity for years. Thing is now though, London's population has grown considerably since the 90's. There just isn't enough property to house everyone. Supply and demand with not much supply.

We had our house valued two weeks ago. It's going on the market in another two weeks. They said for a quick sale £650 or we could hold on for £685. They also said that it will probably be 'foreign' money that's been invested off shore. The house next door to ours was sold to a cash buyer who is having it ripped apart and extended before they move in. I can't see the 'bubble' ever bursting in London because there just isn't enough housing stock. Sorry state of affairs that I could never afford to buy my own house if I were looking now. Ours is an ex council house with the typical box 3rd bedroom.

thats what surprised me, I've always found petals posts to be very constructive and helpful. I just abhor this North/South thing. Fwiw I'd feel just as peeved if someone had found it amusing when Northern Town & Cities are in the midst of floods etc...

Really? What a flippant comment to make! I can understand in 'jest' the North/South thing but seriously .... doesnt matter where in the UK or World these natural disasters occur surely you would have some empathy with the people who have lost everything they have worked so hard for! I wouldn't usually bother to get involved in *** for tat on a thread, but I found your comment really hurtful.

Hahahaha, I too had the ASDA experience today! I was thinking the exact same thing and even txt my hubby while I was battling the aisles cos I had to off load and share the trauma. Think it must be a pre requisite that you have to wear filthy, baggy trackie bottoms and in the case of The Roehampton branch, flip flops or trodden down Ugg rip offs and massive, trashy looking gold earrings that your lobes can manage. You must also yell & scream expletives at your kids as you fill up your trolly with the frozen ready meals on offer! Then when they get to the cashier it's obviously acceptable in their social circles to abuse them too! hello...might not be the most glamorous job but they are working for a living!

We would have moved sooner if not for the sound advice from members on this forum. We stayed in the UK so that our daughter could study for her A Levels. I'm so glad we have because her A Levels will be recognised by all International Universities. It looks like she will be offered a place at the Uni of Queensland to start in 2015. She's viewing the move as a chance to study in a great Uni and is the envy of all her friends who would love the opportunity to study in a country like Oz. TBH most of her friends will be moving to Uni in different cities in the UK anyway, so it really is the best time IMO.

I spoke to the estate agents today. 6 weeks max they reckon for a sale in our area. The ex local authority mid terrace, 'project' next door to me sold for £550000 full asking price within 2 weeks of being on the market. The new owners are now having it ripped apart and completely refurb'd. I'm glad I didn't listen to all the doubters who warned me not to buy in this crime riddled,crappy area full of chavs between Kingston & Richmond!! Its the the third building site we've lived on and taken all our cash and hard graft (I can plaster walls now) but this now very desirable village with its (once failing) outstanding secondary school , on the river front,is...... 'fingers crossed' gonna give us a mortgage free life in Oz. We may even have some savings for the first time in our lives.
