9. Hi guys , were interested in Mandruah, port Kennedy , Warnbro type areas . Does anyone know if these areas are as competitive for rentals, and as I'm a plumber does anyone know if my chances of finding work would be ok around these areas or would I have o look further north. thank you Ian
10. [h=2]WA experience[/h] Hi, I'm a plumber with a 176 SS visa, we are moving across to Perth early 2013. on looking at seek for jobs to get a Heads up every job (10) are advertised with either must have 2,3 or 5 years local experience. is this the norm??? how can migrants get there foot in the door or is this only certain companies. i own my own plumbing business here in the uk and if I advertised stated no Polish I'd get sued Thank you Ian
11. Hi, im a plumber so I can't tell you about the carpentry requirements , plumbing ones were a nightmare, you go through vetasses ( carpenter does this as well) to get your overseas level 3 cert. then when you arrive in oz they want minimum of 5 years WA experience and have to do a gap training course We used ian Harrop associates fr our agent, really good and helpful cost around £1700+ vat God luck Ian
12. Whats a VPN ??? im interested for when we come across Ian
13.

Hi all, I'm a plumber moving to Perth early 2013, we are about to get container quotes. Could anyone please advise what tools in should bring with me. Do Australian plumbers use the rothenburger blow lamps, what hand tools are useless with the different materials etc. Is it advisable to take tool box on flight so i hopefully can get work before container arrives . did anyone air freight there tools out ??? Sorry loads of questions Thank you Ian

14. Hi, hope you don't mind me asking but what can you fit in a 571 cu foot container. we are looking at taking some furniture etc but not Sure on container size required Thanks Ian
15. Having seen a lot of post lately about how bad England is ,I've just read in disgust an article to back this up. Exeter ( our nearest city) cannot afford Christmas lights this year, what the hell. Apparently the council had asked the stores/ shops to contribute to the cost and refused . i hope everyone protests with there cash and boycotes the city and shop from there warm homes online instead. ( sorry this is nothing to do with Australia but had to get it off my chest) Ian
16. Hi mate, I would say to get a sponsorship in plumbing is as rare as a sunny day in England. im a plumber , the best way is go through vetasses (TRA) where you submit your qualifications etc and undertake a practical. on completion you get an australian level 3 overseas qualification , in which on arrive you get a provisional licence ( you can work under supervision of a licenced plumber) and having to do a 2 week gap training course. i see on the DIAC site that gas fitter is NOT Avalible and only 1 plumber went through in Augusts EOI . the best thing is to call a registered migration agent , I used ian Harrop associates ( Jenny is amazing) who were brilliant and really helpful. have a look through my history , there are loads of posts about plumbing , courses, work etc in which could help out All the best good luck Ian
17. Hi guys, reading this thread were looking at Warnbro, port Kennedy areas when we come across. Any thoughts on rentals, suburbs, schools , crime etc Thank you or any advise Ian
18. If you look at the wether forecast the south east corner is generally dry/dryer, hense the hosepipes bans in April before our annual monsoon . Devon as a kid was always known as Sunny Devon, more like cloudy /rainy Devon these days
19. Hi paul. sorry mate that wasn't only reason for moving across , I didn't feel that part of the thread was about my move, saying outdoors was easiest comment. i am a bit worried though about the amount I can earn , as I said to my wife , I am going to have to get my contractors licence as we probably couldn't afford to live working for a company . But that's the same here in uk , if I worked for a plumbing company in Devon you'd be lucky to get £13-15 / hr . the only way we survive here is by having my own business. as a sparky have you got your licence ???, I am also worried about most jobs advertised stats min 5 years WA experience, I realise I'm going to have to work for a firm to start with ( well hopefully ) if I can find work. where are you in Perth, we're looking at SOR around Warnbro, port Kennedy type areas as it seems there are more rentals and cheaper ones . thanks for the advise , it's a nerve racking experience, we're booking our flights in a opulent of weeks so drems will soon become reality. Whats you view on work it situations Nor or SOR , which do you is busier. Cheers mate ( are plumbers still above Sparkes in oz being the top trade)!!!!! Ian
20. Hi, I live in Devon just off the M5 in a small town with about 8000'people . i think wherever you are your going to have good and bad.the town that we live in has a large east European community due to a chicken processing plant a few miles away, you tend to get problems between them and the locals. Our eldest is 14 and basically there is nothing here for her to do and we don't want her to become one of those ' hang out' teenagers. like most places there are things that you want and haven't got and vice Versa. i run my own plumbing business and for the last 11 years have been extremely busy, at the moment you would never believe there was a ression on with the amount of work I have.i had a little bump last week when reality started to hit about our move to Perth early next year, where as work finds my through builders and friends of friends to I'm going to have absolutely nothing in Perth, no job or contacts etc am I mad to give this up for a more of a outdoor life in perth . let me know your jobs and if possible I can advise you on the work situations. Pros of Devon life: Amazing countryside with both Dartmoor and exmoor on your dorsteps lovely beaches safe living in most areas good road links personally work has been good to me quite friendly Cons: High house prices low wages ( compared with house cost and living) Highest water bills in uk things are a lot slower pace of life A few hours from London BLOODY HOLIDAY MAKERS BLOCKING THE M5 EVERY WEEKEND cant go anywhere in summer holidays due to grockles weather as been pretty bad for the last few summers Hope this helps a bit Ian
21. Can you do this from the uk or have to be in Australia Thank you
22. Hi, sorry tht I can't help out as I'm not in Perth until January and Im interested in the same answers to your questions. Thank you Ian
