  1. Hi Im a Marketing Manager and started applying for jobs a couple of weeks prior to arrival in Aus via Seek. I had two interviews lined up for when I arrived so defitnely worth doing! Lisa x
  2. Hi My husband is a qualified joiner and I am, a qualified Marketing Manager. We both have years of experience and we are willing to do any job when we get out there so, sorry, but I am not worried! Lisa x
  3. So pleased it worked out for you! We are moving out on the 15th October with no jobs and only a small amount of money, but we are both hard working and prepared to do anything on arrival. Lisa
  4. Hmm! Now I am tempted to keep my HSBC account even more. Was it easy to switch it to Oz (or whatever the term is?) I have opened a ANZ account but I do love my bank. I have just called Moneycorp and it does seem really straight forward to move money and I am useless with finance! Lisa
  5. I just wanted to say I LOVE HSBC and I will be keeping my UK account open!! I agree that you dont need a business account Lisa x
  6. Hi I would really appreciate a PM as well as we are picking a shipping company this weekend!! That is disgraceful and I feel really upset for you!! Lisa
  7. Thank you! We will have a look now! Another fun day of house hunting for us! My OH is tempted to go without accomadation booked and just wing it!! Lisa
  8. Thanks Jools! We are hoping to only book short term for 2 weeks as I dont want to pay these prices for long!! It is quite scary to pay out this sort of money when you havent got a job lined up. Stay in touch Lisa x
  9. Thanks! We have looked on these sites but it just seems ridiculous to pay $600+ a week when the longer term rentals are half of this. We may end up paying this in the end but I just wanted to check if there was anything reasonable so we dont use up all of our contingency money in the weeks when we dont have work (as this terrifies me!!). We are flying out of Manchester (09:10) Singapore airlines. It would be good to stay in touch though, with people in the same situation as us Lisa
  10. Hi This is the situation. My husband and I have flights booked for Perth on the 15th October 2012. We have spent what can only be described as forever, looking for a short term rental for when we arrive to allow us time to secure a longer term rental. It has proven painful as there doesn't seem to be such a thing as budget accommodation in WA that doesn't cost at least $100 a night. We are not being picky as we don't even mind living a bit further out of Perth we just want somewhere to lay our heads at night. If anyone has any suggestion or words of wisdom, or even a room for us to sleep in, could you please help! I value every piece of feedback on this forum and it has been a great comfort to me during the whole visa process, so I am hoping it will save me now! Thank you in advance Lisa x
  11. Hi Nicky I wish I could say I was gonig to spend my llife on the beach, but I am a Marketing Manager for Bupa so I am hoping to find a Marekting job as soon as possible. Husband is a joiner so I am hoping he will have no problems at all. How about you? Lisa x
  12. Hi I am flying with the same airline for both legs, and only have an 18 hour stop over. The airline are transferring our bags for us so we dont have to carry them around Singapore!! Lisa
  13. Hi Nicky Thats spooky!! We are on the 9 something flight though. The only thing I have booked so far is the flights. Hoping to get short term rental sorted this week, We have been at a car boot all day today to try and shift some junk and we did well for novices!! Love to stay in touch and help each other through the next 8 weeks. Lisa x
  14. Hi All Thanks so much forthe advice. After a few hours of searching we have booked a flight with Singapore airlines and we have sent them an email regarding the extra baggage. Two adults from Manchester to Perth £1200. We have a days stopover in Singapore for some sightseeing, so all in all I think we have done ok!! We now have a countdown date to work to of 15th October, so that is pretty scary!!
  15. Hi All Sorry, I assume this question has been asnwered previously but I cant find it. We are booking our flights to Perth tomorrow (woohoo!), and I want to ensure we get the extra baggage allowance for migration. Does this mean I have to select a certain type of ticket? I am likely to be booking online so I dont want to miss out, but I also dont want to book the wrong ticket as I have too many clothes?! Your advice, as always, would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks Lisa x
  16. Hi Ours took quite some time from intital vetasses submission to finalised, due to Vetassess being so slow! I think there is a bit of luck involved, as our first stage came back quite quickly but then we had to wait 3 months to get a practical date. My advice is to keep pestering Vetassess when you are trying to book a practical. We didnt include any pictures of my OH on the tools Lisa
  17. Hi We have no idea at the moment. Once we have flights booked we need to start looking. I am thinking SOR but open to whatever we can get rent wise! Stay in touch! Lisa xx
  18. Hi Welcome to POI! We are also from Macnehsetr and moving to Perth (not sure where yet!), hopefully in October as our visa has just been granted! It would be good to stay in touch! Lisa & Robert (plus Flossy the dog) xx
  19. Oh my goodness! I am sorry but your post really made me giggle. Not becuase of your awful sitaution but becuase someone would actually do that! Its sucgh a sereal situation!! I also, would have kicked him in the balls!! (after I got over the shock!) Hope your ok Lisa x
  20. Hi We OH had vetassess assessment for carpentry and we submitted, references, tax returns and photgraph of some fo the jobs he has worked on. I would include anything that deomonstrates the work you have done ie doors, roofs, etc as you cant provide too much. The assessment is a doddle according to my husband, but it depends on your experience, as joinery is such a wide variety of skill sets. There were people that struggled at his assessment day because they have never done roofs, my OH has dont a wide variety of joinery so he was done by lunchtime. For the practical which he did in March 2012 he had to do a hipped roof attached to a stud wall and an opening for a door. The rest was lots of health and safety question - ie how certain things a constructed and the processes for "how would you do this.." etc. Hope this helps Lisa
  21. Hi We had our visa granted this week and are hopefully moving to Perth in October (32m, 30f). MMy hsuabdn is from Manchester and I am from Durham. Kepp in touch, we also have no friends in Oz and we havent even been there on holiday! Lisa & Robert (and Flossy the dog!) x
  22. Great thanks. My husband has a CSCS card so that makes sense. I will tell him to get it done. Thank for answering my silly question!! Lisa
  23. Hi Sorry to ask a stupid question, but we arent moving till October time so we are behind on research. Do you need a white card to work in construction? My husband is a joiner. Thanks Lisa
  24. H All Tahnk you for making me giggle whilst reading this thread! It sounds just like my approach to moving - clothes and toiletires!!! Its nice to know there are people like me on here as most people seem SUPER organised and level headed!! We are hoping to move early October to WA. Good luck all, and PLEASE keep the thread updated with what you have purchased, and when you get there, what you would have packed!!! Very useful!! Lisa x
