  3. Hi, Just been granted my WHV and plan to fly out in January 2013. I would like to know if anybody can provide me with any relevant information on any of this. 4. Hi folks! Me and my wife are going to arrive at Perth in few months. Both of us are professionals but since we are going to be fresh immigrants, I assume that it will take us some time to find some decent jobs. Hence, I'd like to find some temporary job to support ourselves while we are looking for permanent one. So I wonder whether there are some sites, newspapers or some other local media where such temporary (or non-professional) jobs are offered? Any related ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks! Eugene S
  5. Hi all, Would really appreciate the benefit of your experience on this one. We had our visa granted about 4 weeks ago and we are unbelievably excited about making to move to Perth. As we have limited funds, we decided to wait until I secured a job (VET teacher/lecturer) before making the permanent move out to Perth. However, so far, this has proved more difficult than I first thought. Despite having mountains of experience and qualifications and a diversity of skills, I am even struggling to get shortlisted for even a basic teaching role. I have changed my CV to suit, tailoired my letters to meet the criteria in the format that the Aussies are loking for, but time after time, they are shortlisting Aussies over me and after speaking to a number of employers (who have been brutally honest), they are stating that I am a risk to employ because of not being there for a face to face interview and the chance that I might not come (which isn't that case). I completely understand where they are coming from and know that if I could get my foot in the door somewhere, I would be fine. We have sold everything (and I mean everything short of our clothes and a few small bits we want to take) and are currently residing with family. Not the most ideal situation. We also have a 16month boy to consider. We vhave enough money to cover costs for the first month, possibly 2 at a stretch. Our dilemma is this: Do we sit and wait until I eventually get offered a job. Or, do we book our flights, apply for jobs notifying them of when we are arriving and do some serious job seeking when we get there. Any advice you guys could offer would be much appreciated. Thanks Chris
  6. Hi Folks. I've been here in Perth for 6 months now (emigrated from Scotland) and am getting nowhere, fast. Im a fully qualified secondary art teacher with 5 years mainstream experience and 2 years experience working in special education. I have what I regard as an exceptional CV which demonstrates a huge range of experience, abilities and enthusiasm. I have applied for over 30 jobs, I'm registered with WACOT, I have completed the staffing request section on the DET website, I apply for every opportunity that they email to me and I continually get the same standard rejection letters. I also apply for an jobs listed in private or religious based school and still nothing. I dont understand the value of appointment pools yet I apply to be in all of them. It seems like there is little or no chance of getting a full or part time position working in a school in Perth. I've heard that working as a supply teacher is a good way to get your foot in the door, but as an art teacher, I don't see how I would be capable of teaching other subjects, especially on a supply basis. Has anyone had similar experiences? Has anyone got any advice on how to progress or can anyone shed any light on why I'm finding this an impossible task? Is the system stacked against foreigners? Are there actually any real jobs out there, or are they already accounted for before they are advertised? Is it because I teach art and not english or maths? Or am I just unlucky? Any advice, comments, help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for reading.
