  1. Hi, just following up on this. Looks I am in a similar situation applying for UK passport for my son born in Australia in 2014, my wife and I are both UK citizens. We have exactly the same generic document list sent to us as posted above asking for all Grandparents Birth Certificates which seems weird. Unfortunately 3 of the grandparent are deceased and we have no idea where their birth certifcates would be, and it is going to be a pain in @rse to get my mothers. I called the passport helpline but did not really get a definitive answer. Just wondering whether others have had to send Grandparents Birth Certs or have managed to get around it?
  2. Hi, does anyone know if the student loan repayments I make back to the UK are Tax Deductible in my Aus Tax return? I was thinking that they might be because my qualifications are required to do my job. One other bit of info my Student loan was not for tuition fees but living costs at University in the UK. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
  3. Could be sun cream, I had this when I first arrived, the only stuff I can use without getting eczema on my face is cancer council in the blue bottle.
  4. I put visa granted and my arrival date massive green text in the header of my resume above everything including my name. Perhaps a bit unorthodox but it draws attention to your resume and I eventually got an offer after months of applying without a visa. Employers in aus get sent hundreds of foreign applications so I think it needs to stand out that you have a visa and / or arrival date.
  5. ...as your attorney i advise you to rent a car with no top...
  6. I find it hard to believe you would be taxed 60%, starting up your own company is the most tax efficient way of contracting in the UK. It would be interesting if someone knows how it is done in aus?

    Too Hot!

Maybe DIAC should put 'caution hot' on their visas like McDonald's have to put on their coffee cups.
  8. I don't think it makes a difference what education you have, I also have a masters degree from a UK universitiy and still took IELTs. If you need to get the additional points for a Visa you need to take the IELTS and achieve atleast 7 in all modules or 8 in all modules even more point, sorry not sure actual value of points. If you don't need the additional points and you have a british passport then you do not need the IELTs.
  9. I second that. I had the same problem when I applied in June last year, we got our grant a month ago. It took me ages to work out why I couldn't add my Fiancee.
  10. Thanks for your replies. I am just currently starting to reapply for jobs now I have the visa. I will keep you posted if I get any success. I am also attending the Aus Expo in London on the 24th of March so will try and get some questions answered there.
  11. Thanks for your reply. I was also thinking of planning a validating visa trip / try and line up a few interviews, or just handing in my notice and buying a oneway ticket. By the way what industry do you have experince in? and have you sent applications via internet or have you made the effort to call the employer / agency. The reason I ask is I have only recieved generic email responces to online applications saying I do not meet the criteria.
  12. Hi, I thought I would start this thread so other mechanical Engineers can share their experiences of finding employment in Australia; either in country or from abroad; and in their current industry or across industries. The purpose is to provide tips and advice to others (and me) trying to find a job. My situation. I have just been granted a 175 visa and I am living in the UK and working in the Aerospace Industry. I have applied for several Australian vacancies in Aerospace and other industries before my visa was granted and received no interest whatsoever. However in the same time I have applied for a few jobs in different industries in the UK and have had two job offers in the last six months. This suggests to me that I am understandably not desirable 10,000 miles away without the right to work in Australia but does raise some other questions: 1. Does my CV which works in the UK need to be ozzed up, if so any tips? 2. Am I likely to succeed applying for work from the UK with a visa, or do I really need to take the plunge and move to Oz with no offer of employment to succeed in scoring an Australian job? :animal-frog:
  13. I work for a large global organisation and DIAC contacted the HR department directly, not through the contact details of my manager who signed the proof of employment letter. I was hoping to keep my plans between my manager and me as I intend to get atleast another few months out of them. Hey ho, slightly intrusive but never mind at least they can prepare to advertise my job.
  14. Sorry I meant 13th of june
  15. Yeah I got it! Make me purple....... time to party I applied 6th of June 2011.
  16. By the way I have not forgotten this thread. To update my status: Meds: 3/01/2012 Police checks: UK checks 12/01/2012, Aus check (for the Mrs 21/02/2012) Aus police check took forever, for some reason it took over a month to reach AFP and then a good four weeks to process and get back to us. Everything is uploaded now so fingers crossed and wait.
  17. Might be worth a call to DIAC. When I got a CO ,I didn't recieve an email, as it turned out I had spelt my email address wrong .con intead of .com whoops.
  18. Thanks everyone, had an email from CO today confirming that the statutory declaration is sufficent. Just waiting for an Australian Police Check which took 1 month to arrive with the Aus police! so fingers crossed x
  19. Thanks, we are going to call DIAC tonight to see what will be sufficent. We are considering getting my wifes name changed officially now.
  20. Thanks, but apparently it is not possible to change a birth certifcate as this a record of the particular event.
  21. We have just been asked by our CO to provide evidence of my partners name change as her middle is included on her passport and not on her birth certificate. She has never had her name officially changed by depol so I don't know how this has happened, I can only presume the passport office did not do the propoer checks. Has anyone had a similar problem and what was the resolution. I am getting realy worried that this could be a serious problem. Thanks

    form 80 question

I put in an estimated date when I would arrive and for the other questions put undecided or not available. Hopefully that'll be ok, will find out soon when CO gets back to me. Fingers crossed.
  23. Thanks it is good start to christmas season. Do you think I should contact DIAC to chase them about not having recieved the email?
  24. I think I have CO not sure. I checked my 175 visa application status on the DIAC website over the weekend and to my surprise it had been updated saying that my visa is being processed further as of the 14/12/2011 additionally it stated that an email has been sent to me on the 14th of December. However I have not received this email (I have also checked my junk folders). Do you think I have been allocated a CO is this normal or is there somthing amiss? According this thread I am due a CO (App name MrTux app date 13/06/2011). I have contacted DIAC online via the visa status page, would it be better to call them?
