  1. How can people be so cruel, RIP little boy  A 33-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly killing his three-year-old son by locking him in a washing machine and turning it on. Christophe Champenois, from Meaux, near Paris, allegedly stripped Bastien naked and shut him in the machine to punish him for a prank at nursery school - throwing a classmate's drawing down a toilet. He is then said to have run the cold cycle wash for a few minutes at their house, in the village of Germigny-l'Eveque. Bastien's five-year-old sister, Maud, told Alice's husband that it was not the first time the boy's father had put him in the washing machine as punishment. Neighbours told the newspaper that the boy had been repeatedly abused - by being locked up for hours in a cupboard and also by being left on a window sill for hours wrapped in a blanket.

    Reaction to washing powder

Hi, I've been in Sydney for 2 months now and mostly loving it... apart from 1 thing! I am prone to small amounts of eczema/sensitive skin and since I moved here it's been worse. I am pretty sure I've narrowed it down to the washing powder. Even when using the hypoallergenic versions my face/eyes still react. I never had this problem with washing powder in the UK, so thinking of trying to import/buy some British washing powder. Does anyone have any advice on where I might be able to get hold if this, that's not too expensive? Has anyone suffered from the same thing and has any other advice on treating? Thanks in advance
  3. Hi all, We are moving to Melbourne at the end of May and are going to be looking for rental properties. My question - which should be obvious anyway from the title - is whether most properties already have fridges and washing machines? I know they usually have cookers, but I'm not sure about white goods? We're renting out our house in Scotland and will be leaving our fridge and washing machine here, so we need to know whether we'll have to buy new ones out there. Thanks! Suzanne.
  4. Any tips on the above - I guess after a few weeks of transit in an sealed package it may smell a bit! Any tips to minimise this would be helpful. Thanks

  10. We had removal companies come today to give us a quote for relocating our stuff to Perth. They advised against taking the fridge freezer and washing machine. They gave mixed reasons, one said it was because they dont travel well and maybe wont survive the trip (they're 2 years old), one said the the customs in oz dont like the gases in the fridges here and another said that you cant clean washing machines to the standards that customs require. My ex colleague took both with him and had no problems with customs. He did however have to replace his washing machine within months of being there, reason unknown. It would be great to hear of your experiences. Thanks

    Washing machines....

Hi everyone, Some advice please! When we got here, I noticed that everyone seemed to have top-loader washing machines. We brought our front-loader over with us from the UK, and I have always been pretty happy with it. One thing I do find irritating is that every now and then, there seems to be a tiny little bit of mold that starts to grow on the rubber that seals the machine when the door closes. Is it only me? What am I doing wrong? It comes of really easily when I spay it with mold killer, but then I have to clean the mold killer off very carefully (or hubbies clothes tend to end up with bleach marks on the :embarrassed:) Any tips? Or is it just a case of investing in a top-loader? Do they have the same problems? Thanks Jules:wubclub:
  14. Hey there, i would like to take my 42 inch Plasma TV back to the UK and Washing Machine, Fridge Freezer etc... will they work back home if i change the plugs? I read somewhere that the sound frequencies in TVs are different here to UK and may not work and also if i had a set top box it will work with this? Anyone brought their TV back home and it worked? UK Washing Machines

Hi All, Has anyone brought over a washing machine from the UK and had any problems using it? I ask the question as we know of someone who brought theirs and it wouldn't work. They said it was because the sockets here, although the same voltage as in the UK, are only rated at 10 amps as opposed to 13 amps in the UK. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, is there a solution. Our washer is quite new (less than 2 years old), so we don't want to have to buy a new one unless we have to.

And are they compatable with the UK (you never know whats round the corner especially a couple of years down the line). Thanks all Karen

    Washing machines?

I'm looking to get a new washing machine. Right now my hubs has a top loader. From what I'm reading, it sounds like front loaders are better (washing and efficiency-wise). I want something of a decent size and with a hand wash cycle as well. Thing is, I have had a look at Consumer Reports US (which of course is of no help with models and brands here) and have looked at Choice here (which doesn't have much good info). What brands are best in Australia? Help! I don't want to spend over $1000, I don't think. Thanks! Suzer
