  1. I've always found it feels like being in really deep water. You still float, and its no more dangerous than being in your pool, but you just have that sensation of depth which can be unnerving, or awe inspiring. But I guess if you don't feel it you don't feel it.
  2. Perth has suffered/enjoyed massive growth over the last, well forever really. I personally don't think the transport infrastructure has been kept up to date, and it requires investment. You see far less police on the streets than you used to, and there is a lot of crime in the papers. A lot of this is sensational press though. It can get very hot in summer and surprisingly cold in winter. Driving is a little unorthodox and without empathy for some reason. They could do with another courtesy is contagious campaign. Perth does have a small town mentality, and many people don't like change. Perth is isolated, and you feel that isolation. Although many come to love it. I wouldn't think any of the above is a reason for not coming. It is a very beautiful city, and if you like outdoor activities, then it is bliss.
  3. I get odd looks putting out the rubbish in pj's in my village. Not so much from snobs, more from the joggers.
  4. Just went down the tip and saw a guy in PJs. But he was probably decorating. I stopped going to asda when I realized not all the milk bottles were full. Yuck!
  5. I never willingly took out PPI as I was contracting at the time and it wouldn't have covered me. So I've always ignored this PPI melarchy. But I was talking to a mate who said that I wouldn't have known, so I thought I'd print off a form and send it in. Doesn't cost much. Anybody had any luck doing this?
  6. I do wish that after a certain period of time, say 15 years of marriage they would just give your spouse citizenship. She deserves it and a medal for putting up with me for all this time.
  7. What do you do for a living Maryrose? Patriotism is good, but nationalism is taking it a bit far. I had hoped they would have gotten over the pommie bashing by now. I have had one instance of Aussie bashing, but I put that to bed pretty quickly. They have started doing home opens over in the UK. But some people have yet to understand that in order to sell your house you have to let people see it. It's making me homesick all these Aussies going home.
  8. Have you been back for a holiday in that time?
  9. Women shot in mouth by spear gun. Let's ban all spear fishing. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2321704/Woman-shot-mouth-husband-cleans-spear-gun.html
  10. The London crowd have moved down. Try patcham, hangleton, or Shoreham for a bit cheaper. Do you have kids? There's good schools in hassocks and Haywards heath. Burgess hill is cheap, but parts are a bit feral.
  11. I've heard that new Zealand is a bit more reliable. Not sure about Tassie. I did hear they were planning a snow dome in Perth, but I haven't heard anything for years.
  12. Depends where you are going to really. I've never skied in the southern hemi, but I've heard people do.
  13. Thanks metoo. I've been in remission three years now, eight years since diagnosis. I didn't bounce back from the second round of chemo. I get ill and run down pretty easily. I was on immunoglobulin, which gave me a boost. My wife thinks I came off it too early. But I have to prove I'm ill for an extended period before they give me more. I do miss the sunshine. I'm better in the summer. Thanks for the thread.
  14. Delicate time at the moment. US has a debt ceiling to pass, and we are in nervous times. Most of my money is in cash ATM. UK or Oz based? The energy companies are all quite low thanks to red Ed. They are defensive and pay good dive. I've always liked arm, but not sure if the time is right. Don't buy anything luxury wise that is popular in China, as they seem to be coming off their highs. UK small caps are worth a look. I'd look at a fund to spread your risk. Gold may be coming back, so you could look at oz gold miners. Interesting times. Good luck.
  15. Thankfully I'm not in pain. But I only have a certain amount of stamina before my body tells me it's sit down time, or sleep time. I never thought of it as spoon theory, but essentially that's how I plan my day.
  16. Yep, that is pretty much my life these days. I've been spoilt the last four months as I've had more spoons than I know what to do with, but the last five weeks the spoon supply has hit extreme shortages. Some days I don't even have the energy to have tea. I just come home and sleep. I've been skipping lunch, as the effort to digest my food means I'm too sleepy to drive home from work.

    Im home !

I loved Frenches forest. My parents still exchange Xmas cards with friends they made there nearly fifty years ago.

Well done. Did you have any trouble getting your son back in school?
  19. Had no trouble going back to the UK. But they only allow one litre of spirits.
  20. Does anyone know which companies still use mainframes in Perth? I see the odd advert - but I get no bites. I'm really only interested in finding the companies so I can book mark them for a later date (although an offer would tempt me) I work mainly on supporting multi layered stuff, web clients that talk to unix, mainframes etc. asp.net, C#, sql server, unix, mainframe, cobol db2. I specialize in tracing bugs through multiple platforms.
  21. Why do they sell you water bottles in dubai transit and then take it off you when you try and get on the plane? I'm sure they just resell it to the next mug. Next time, I'll take an empty bottle on board with me and fill it from the dispenser.
  22. It's funny, Liverpool's been on my list for a while, but I've never had a reason to go there. One day maybe.
  23. Liverpool's on my list. Is it safe to take children there?
