  1. They would have the left the dog whatever age too so not huge animal lovers no. We are bringing 2 cats and 1 dog. The horse was coming too before it had to be PTS on the operating table. I wouldn't be coming if I had to leave the pets behind.
  2. The rise in fees is extortionate but it will not have made much difference in this case compared to 30 days previously. (maybe a few hundred dollars). I guess springers are a bit bigger than my dog. The extra cost to ship 2 dogs from Sydney to Perth will have no doubt added a large chunk to the cost. Of course, you should earn more in Oz and £8k may be more like £4k comparatively speaking so you could no doubt get a 0% card and pay it off over time.
  3. 2000 for the quarantine (prices have risen). 1000 for the vet bills? shipping should be under 5k for 2 springers? What did petairuk quote for that? We bit the bullet and would rather make sacrifices eg an old car and bring the pets.i hope you find a way to bring them.
  4. I saw this before.. This guide would normally cost £6.98 but in return for you agreeing to be contacted by Telegraph Media Group Limited and Moneycorp, providers of the Telegraph International Money Transfer Service, you can download it free of charge. Edit.. Write anything you want in the form and avoid your real details. You do not need to use your real email as the links appear in your browser.
  5. You can see the seats after about 35 seconds here..
  6. We paid an extra £55 each to fly from LHR to SYD with Singapore Airlines.preferred economy seating on the double decker A380 . We chose Row 71 upstairs which is the 1st economy row behind all of the posh seats. There are only 10 rows or so of economy upstairs so it is nice and quiet as well as being good for toilets etc. No doubt you are aware that Singapore provide great food and service even in economy. Row 71 has nobody in front of you which results in nobody putting their seat back and allows you to relax. The seats are decent and there are over 200 films to choose from IIRC. We then have a nap in Singapore between legs. Personally I arrived feeling refreshed on the same flight in a standard seat upstairs on the same plane so I am sure that the extra legroom etc will be even more refreshing. I couldn’t justify paying more to sit in business and could put the cash difference to much better use instead of wasting it whilst on a plane. That said, I would choose business class every time if money was no object.
  7. Ouch. Have these prices doubled for everybody. e.g. is this now the standard rate for a large movecube? Thanks
  8. Education points received by sitting an exam to prove you are competent. Skill assessment to prove you are competent. English test...surprise surprise .... To prove you are competent. What a shocker... The government would be accused of racism if they did not make every person follow the same criteria and therefore everybody sits IELTS. Besides, I know plenty of English people who would do worse than some of our Indian contractors. It is by far the fairest way. No doubt there are people holding British passports since birth who may not even speak English (eg if they were born here but returned to another country as a child). it also makes perfect sense that they place such a high emphasis on language / communication . There is no point having a skilled employee if they cannot understand colleagues / requirements / customers correctly.
  9. Valid points. I guess anything can go wrong. We paid extra for the better seats and those seats are now "guaranteed". So hopefully we will be ok. Both of our legs have upstairs economy and you can see the seat before paying.
  10. Firstly, (and this offer often extends).. you can get $40 per person to spend at the airport... http://www.singaporeair.com/jsp/cms/en_UK/promotions/transit-promotion.jsp Secondly, check the planes which you are flying on. Ideally you would get the double decker A380 and if you book early enough (and direct with SA) you can choose economy seats upstairs. Upstairs is all business class etc apart from the back few rows which makes economy really quiet. You can also choose to add the extra legroom seats for about £55 each total across the 2 flights so you have no seat in front of you. You can also pay about £45 (memory) for a stopover at Singapore where they provide a shuttle to and from a hotel for an overnight sleep. Alternatively, you can pay about the same to stay at the airport Transit hotel. The Changhi airport in Singapore even has a free cinema, pool etc.

  12. And in 2012 38000 UK citizens left to go to Australia. ;-)
  13. My first search showed that you may need to have a rethink. In Australia a record numbers of expats who had spent more than a year abroad were said to be heading home. In July, 2013, the Australian Bureau of Statistics published figures showing that fewer people are leaving Australia to find work overseas, suggesting that the country’s “brain drain” had gone into reverse. One of the reasons put forward was the continuing slump in European economies. A year on, and, and it’s quite possible the situation could change. With the UK’s economy improving rapidly, it’s possible that it will become a magnet once again to those footloose Antipodean travelers.
  14. I think you then need to let DIBP know your new passport number before you enter AUS?
  15. Congrats However, you were so excited that you forgot to update your sig
  16. And this is 1 of the reasons I was unimpressed with Golden Arrow. It costs $1490 for 10 days in quarantine, plus the quarantine station also charges admin etc. That will be £1000 for just the quarantine. Golden Arrow have not given you a valid quote. You will not get a flight and premium service for £300.
  17. You have just said..We know you need to complete an Expression of Interest and go through Skillselect but to be honest, there's so much information online that nothing really clearly tells you do this, this, that and this, in this order, unless you pay someone £2,500 for the privilege of being your "Migration Agent - Sorry, but that is rubbish. There is SO much info on this site alone regarding what to do. Try the search :-) or google search.
  18. Acs RPL. Used my degree to have 6 years experience deducted by ACS. I then applied for my visa and DIAC accepted just the certificate (I didn't need to show vetassess assessment for degree only).
  19. My degree was not IT related but I claimed 15 points for education. It does not have to be related
  20. I had a quote from them (around 1 month ago) but I was not impressed. From memory, the info they provided was very out of date. They do not use vetbed for travelling. Instead their cage is lined with paper which will do a very poor job at holding urine etc on such a long flight. I will read it again when home and see what else put me off.
  21. bovered..I think you are in the same boat as me then.. I believe that both HSBC and Natwest will require you to have other residential property in the UK (therefore you cannot get the mortgage if you wish to just let out your own home). Also, I contacted liquidexpatmortgages via their form last week and I had no response whatsoever.
  22. My RPL was a 6 year deduction as I had a non-IT degree. They did not mention my degree and I had read that VETASSESS can be used for a Points Test Advice to show the degree is worth 15 points. However, if you search my post history you will see that WRussell has advised that you do not require this if you can be sure that your degree is equivalent to an Aussie degree. AS it was , I had already applied for the Points Test and it came back as successful. I did not supply this to DIAC though when applying and I still got my invite. Evidently they must have accepted my degree as WRussell had suggested Just remember that you cannot claim any work experience points due to the 6 year deduction.
  23. I thought skillselect automatically calculated points from your dob? How could you have chosen more points for it?
  24. Thank you for the advice. Our home is in a street where the last house had 8 people wanting to view within 1 hour of it going up on rightmove (told by the owner). I am very sure that we can rent out easily but you are correct that anything could happen with the wrong tenants. The other half is keen to keep her home but the risk is certainly there - thankfully I know that we can obtain help from parents etc if a similar unlikely issue happened to us.
  25. Thanks. Nothing in life is certain and we have jumped through a lot of hoops to get to Oz so we are not taking it lightly. It is also nice to try and keep a house here as an investment. A tenant will have a lease and a release term so we could factor that in and move back to coincide with this
