  1. Just present your passport when you enter. Don't apply for a visitor visa, that would probably cancel out the 457!
  2. From the website You must: have been living in Australia on a valid Australian visa for four years immediately before applying which must include the last 12 months as a permanent resident, and not have been absent from Australia for more than one year in total, in the 4 year period, including no more than 90 days in the year before applying. http://www.citizenship.gov.au/applying/how_to_apply/conferral_app_process/
  3. You can include a Stat dec from your sister to say why you are living there, and if you have a bank statement shwing any joint payments to her for food or rent etc you can highlight those.
  4. Why did you migrate to Sydney if you are sponsored by South Australia?!
  5. Who needs google? Just look down the list of recent posts on here and loads of them are about Spouse visas.
  6. And they don't even have to be Australian, even permanent residents will do! Like you, i think its very unusual and unlikey to only know temp residents, even has a backpacker you end up working with Australian residents who could vouch for a relationship after meeting you a few times.
  7. What do you mean updates on the visa? You know this thread is a year old, lots of people will have got a 489 since then!
  8. Thanks, managed to answer my own question eventually! The FBI don't hold them all, I reckon Americans would soon shout about civil liberties if they did http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2005/04/does_the_fbi_have_your_fingerprints.html
  9. Surely if you are living in Australia you know ore than one person with PR or citizenship? They don't have to be citizens, just permanent residency will do.
  10. Guess its possible they would allow it, after all if you apply onshore for a Spouse Visa from a WHV or tourist visa you can get the 6 month clause waived. The fact you've secured a job in a small town, in probably the worst state to gain employment is bound to go in your favour.
  11. I've never lived there so I wasn't aware that the FBI had a copy of all the prints of people who have lived in the US! When fo they take them? When you start school or start work or What?
  12. SO how do they know whose prints they've got? I mean if I had a record in the USA I'd get a mate to give their fingerprints, I certainly wouldn't be submitting mine :arghh:
  13. Surely you can't do that? Dosn't someone official at the police staion have to verify your identity when they take the prints?
  14. Putting them on the plane to Oz for a few days is a lot cheaper than getting a spouse visa for her and the kids. You don't even have to go with them, be mad not to validate!
  15. Why can't your parents send you to school wherever you are now? Sh*te happens I'm afraid, just have to make the bestof it, thats the way life goes. Think yourself lucky times are quicker tha they were 8-10 years ago when people waited 4 or 5 years for the applications to be processed.......
  16. Its 12 months, not 4-6 weeks for checks for DIBP. Checks for AHPRA are for 6 months or more -and you will still have to get another set for DIBP as they are done by different authorities.
  17. You will both need new police checks from ACRO (thats UK police checks).
  18. I'd agree with you, I've acually come across two Brits in the UK on RRVs who have successfull sponsred partners (and babies) on a Spouse Visa and then the whole family has moved to Aus together. The Sponsor can outline in their statement how the family intend to move together, both people can talk about their research into starting life in Aus together, etc etc. I would think get the application in offshore, may well be granted by January and if not then it should be close enough for the partner to use an evisitor for the last couple of months, or just wait in the UK and fly over a couple of months after the OP.
  19. You ought to inform them as it would be sheer politeness-after all, they gave you a visa on the expectation that you would stay in the State. If you choose to leave it the least I think you should do is say thanks, and tell them why you are moving.
  20. Spouse visas went to online processing a couple of years back. Even before that interviews at an embassy/High Commission for low risk applicants were rare. You can apply for a tourist visa and visit OZ while the offshore spouse visa is processing - check the DIBP website for the appropriate one, either evisitor, ETA or a longer term tourist visa, and tell your CO that you are visiting the country. Spouse Visas are the same as other PR visas, check the rules on RRVs and citizenship as the travel portion of a PR visa expires after 5 years.
  21. If thats all he rang for, consider yourself special!
  22. She applies online, no need to go to any embassy or High Commission.
  23. Thats cos a 189 can be granted onshore. With an offshore partner visa the expectation is that you apply offshore and only come to Australia after its granted. Or you apply onshore for the 820 instead, mthen it can be granted onshore.
  24. No, Brits can enter New Zealand on holiday with a visa thats issued when they enter the country. No need for him to do anything except present his passport.
  25. See this link http://www.immi.gov.au/Help/Locations/Pages/China.aspx
