cheryh79
Hi, I was offered to obtain TR but using NSW Southern Inland. I wish to live near Melbourne, so I found this small town. Anyone living in Albury? and is it advisable to Apply for TR?
blossom
Which visa are you looking at? There are many different ones which would give you tr. Some it doesn't matter where you live, some it does.
cheryh79
I cleared my Work Accessment from ACS with ANZSCO 262113. My IELTS only got 6 so I am waiting for my work exp to clock 8 years (Apr 2014 onwards) to apply for PR. I am afraid that the policy change next July due to new GOV, that's why I ask my agent on the alternative. He advised to apply 489 with NSW Southern Inland. 489 gave me 10 pts and I can go ahead with the application rather than waiting until next apr. Is Albury within NSW Southern Inland territory? Quinkla
Albury isn't really very near Melbourne - being generous, it is 3.5 hours on the motorway. That would be like living in Liverpool because you wanted to live near London - but with nothing in between. Plus, if you have a visa that restricts you to NSW, you would be unable to live or work in Wodonga, which is basically half the town. If you are looking at NSW Trade and Investment, Albury is in Murray region, not Southern Inland. It is far away from any of the towns listed in Southern Inland. Tumut seems to be the closest, as just over 2 hours away. It has a population of 6,000. Edited September 24, 2013 by Quinkla
Guest
Albury is not very close to Melbourne. Will take a couple of hours drive from Melbourne. It's a very nice place though I thought when I visited.
cheryh79
so the most popolar place for Southern Inland will be Canberra?
Quinkla
Albury is not very close to Melbourne. Will take a couple of hours drive from Melbourne. Much more than that - it is well over 300km to drive and the Melbourne end of it is on urban streets. My estimate is 3.5 to 4 hours.

I drove it a few months back. I can't remember the exact time taken but It wasn't as high as 4 hours. Maybe about 3 (this was at the weekend)
NickyNook
so the most popolar place for Southern Inland will be Canberra? Canberra is not part of the Southern Inland region of NSW (because it's not in NSW). The biggest towns in the region are: Bowral, Cooma, Goulburn, Queanbeyan, Tumut, Yass and Young. None of them are anywhere near Melbourne. And to be honest, I can't imagine any of them having much call for IT specialists, either. They are all pretty small places compared to Melbourne. Maybe about 3 (this was at the weekend) Only if you broke the speed limit. Which can be very expensive in Victoria.
Quoll
Only if you broke the speed limit. Which can be very expensive in Victoria. Yeah I'd agree - 3 and a half hours if the traffic is good and you sit on the speed limit all the way. Much closer to 4 hrs on any given day though. nowhere in NSW Southern Inland is going to be close to Melbourne!!! Canberra isn't NSW Southern inland either! Alan Collett
Albury: http://www.immi.gov.au/living-in-australia/choose-australia/regional-life/nsw/albury.htm One of the regional campuses of Charles Sturt Uni is there, I believe. Best regards.
starlight7
If you want to live near Melbourne you need to apply for Victoria not New South Wales. If you want Canberra then it is the ACT ( Australian Capital Territory) NSW is huge - but not that huge that it stretches to Melbourne! NickyNook
btw anyone taken subclass 489 with Southern Inland from NSW?Can share your application experience? Is wollongong in Southern Inland? In Post #9, I listed all the biggest towns in Southern Inland region. Once again, FYI, they are: Bowral, Cooma, Goulburn, Queanbeyan, Tumut, Yass and Young. So, no, Wollongong is not included.

Lambethlad
Have a look at Moama. It's a bit closer to Melbourne on the Murray River. On the other side of the river is the large Victorian town of Echuca. It's a nice place with lots of tourism revolving around the old paddlesteamer boats, wineries and food. Lots of Poms are retiring there. We are going back there for the Riverboats Music festival. http://riverboatsmusic.com.au/echuca-moama/
NickyNook
Have a look at Moama. Yes, it is nice there. But it isn't in the Southern Inland region of NSW - which is where the OP must live and work in order to get a quick visa.
