But im still not that certain if i really indeed obtained the qualications/requirements that they need and thats why Before i lodge my ACS assessment application online I would like it to be pre-asssed by you my friends just to be sure i did not miss something out.

Any opinions or suggestions will be highly appriciated! :)

So, here is the details of my assement application:

=========================

Assessment details

=========================

skill type: 261312 (Developer Programmer)

Target Assessment group criteria: Group A or B

===========================

Documents requirements

===========================

1) Completed Online Application form

2) certified true copy of the following:

a) detailed and descriptive employer references

b) academic transcripts

c) academic qualification certificates

d) Passport (for proof of identity purposes)

===========================

Work Experience

===========================

1) total of 5 years work experience (to 3 diffrent companies. all of which still exists up to now) in ICT-related fields. specifically, as a software developer / programmer mainly on web-based and desktop-based applications.

===========================

Certifications awarded

===========================

1) Certified Microsoft Technology Specialist (MCTS / MCP)

===========================

Educational Attainment

Im not a bachelors degree holder (BS,BA etc..) , but instead i only hold a professional graduate diploma in ICT-related courses that i've completed in 2 years of study in an ICT institute.

As you dont hold a degree you would fall into group b, and you would fail the assessment. as group require 7 years of work experience:arghh:

Thanks. for the feedback UFO. Thats what i thought so too at first... but as per PASAguidelines release last july 2010. Group B will only need at least 5 Years Full time professional ICT work experience. So other than that im not sure if there are other qualifications that im not yet covered. what do you think?

---------

here are the snippets of the guidelines:

GROUP B (suitable)

Applicants must provide evidence that they have a qualification assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Diploma or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Advanced Diploma with a major in ICT, or an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor (undergraduate) degree, or Graduate Diploma, or higher qualification with a minor (sub-major) in ICT in a highly relevant field to the nominated occupation and at least five (5) years of full time professional ICT work experience in a field closely related to the nominated occupation, completed in the ten (10) years before the date of application for Skills Assessment.

Note: Six (6) years of full time professional ICT work experience in a field closely related to the nominated occupation are required if the ICT qualification/s is not relevent to the nominated occupation.

As a guide for an AQF Diploma or an AQF Advanced Diploma or overseas equivalent, the ICT content must be at least 50%.

As a guide for a minor (sub-major) for a Bachelor degree the ICT content must be at least 20%.

As a guide for a Graduate Diploma or higher degree qualification described in 2.2.5 above, a minor (sub-major) must relate to a program with an ICT content of at least 50%.

As a guide for a Post Graduate Diploma or higher degree qualification described above, a minor (sub-major) must relate to a program with ICT content of at least 15% and less than 33%.

Following certification courses, either individually or in combination, may be sufficient to meet the qualifications criteria:

• Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Microsoft Certified Solution Developer, Certified Lotus Professional or Certified Novell Engineer (from 1997)

• Certified Directory Engineer from Novell, Master Certified Novell Engineer, Certified Novell Instructor, CITEC Certified Engineer or Oracle Certified Master (from 2004)

• Microsoft Certified Professional Developer or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (from 2007)

yes. that is if your the qualification is not related on the nominated occupation then you will require + 1 year of work experience (which makes it 6 years) in ICT-related work. since in my case, i only have a professional diploma, no degree but still its an ICT-related course and 5 years of ICT-related job experience. and my nominated occupation is a 261312 (Developer Programmer). i think im not covered in the clause. what do you think?

That's interesting to know! And a big relief to me! I have been worrying over this and haven't been able to get a proper answer. From the Acs guidelines all does seem in order too!

Question tho... could you not sit the additional exam (or two) and gain an MCITP or similar? You would still hold your MCTS. If so can you use multiple mcts's as part of your app? Is a MCITP worth more in the Acs assessment? (It should be obviously ,but is it?)

Lastly, the thing that's driving me crazy... if you get graded suitable (B), does this still get you the points on the points system as if you had a bachelors degree? Because if not it could mean falling short on points <-- this is driving me crazy getting an answer for this!

Good luck mtchavez! Where are you looking to settle in oz?

i think, if your not ICT degree holder you will be considered as

A minor (sub-major) in ICT highly relevant to the nominated occupation. which is i think ok with ACS.

if ever, id be given the chance to go to oz to work. id be staying in my brothers place. which is in melbourne.

My employer is hopefully going to sponsor me in 2yrs, but I would still need Acs grading for this. I don't have a degree either, like yourself. MCTS I will have soon, its not too hard to do. A friend of mine just sits the tests and usually passes them (MS ones) lucky sod he is.

Diploma I'm starting in order to have that before the 2years is up. Degree isn't an option since I can't do it in 2 years. 3 years if I practically give up on life outside work, but I have kids - no chance!

I take it by what you meant by the ACS grading then, that you will get the points from the points system (120 one or 65 system) as if you held a degree?

If I were i would get confirmation from MARA agent on this, because this were it gets cloudly. The title of the dip means nothing it depends on the subjects. subjects must be assessed as highly relevant to the nominated occupation else 6 years if the ICT subjects are not assessed as highly relevant

Hi Dear All,

ACS do accept Graduate Diploma in IT qualification as a group A qualification. Please refer the PASA guidelines.

"Applicants must provide evidence that they have a qualification assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor (undergraduate) degree or Graduate Diploma or higher degree level qualification with a major in ICT in a highly relevant field to the nominated occupation and at least two (2) years of full time professional ICT work experience in a field closely related to the nominated occupation, completed in the seven (7) years before the date of application for Skills Assessment"

If you have a well recognize Graduate Diploma offered by Charted Body / University technically they must accept it.

For an example: BCS PGD in IT technically they should accept. Totally because

"Professional Graduate Diploma in IT

This level is the academic equivalent to Year 3 of a UK university honours degree.

It is recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as Level 6." - From BCS site.

Do you know anyone who applied for ACS with above qualification?

Actually the BCS PGD is equivalent to a low level university degree offered by a polly. Im Chartered IT Professional from BCS and full member.

I would talk to ACS about it,

Hi all,

I too would suggest getting an agent to check everything is correct. All this visa stuff can get complicated :arghh:

I used Peter Chiam from PTLabs for both my ACS assessment and visa application. He specialises in visas for IT Professionals and is reasonably priced as well. He did a great job and I can certainly recommend his services.

Regards.

Anne

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post in this part of the forum. I have read the previous posts with interest, and to summerize, does having an MCSE and/or MCITP get recognised by the ACS and provide 10 points? (I have 10 years experience). And does an applicant have to ask for this, or is it automatic?

Thank you so much for reading,

PW.

Under what occupation would you get a skills assesment done using your MSCE?

Hi PW,

the MCSE is recognised as being equivalent to an IT-diploma so you don't have to go down the RPL-route. There are some restrictions on this (age of the cert ....) and also some more certs which are accepted so you might want to get in touch with the ACS for details.

Good luck

Uli
