Guest ddd2010
According to the new priority, IT graduates who have already applied under the occupation 2231-79 Computing Professional (ICT Recent Graduate) will fall into category 4? This is very illogical because for new applicants, they can now apply as one of the ICT occupations on the new SOL (eg. Developer Programmer or Software Engineer) instead of being grouped together as Computing Professional (ICT Recent Graduate), which is no longer on the SOL. Would this mean that new ICT Graduates who apply under the new rule will fall into category 3 but ICT Graduates that already applied under the old rule will fall into category 4? So, given two people with the same qualification from the same university who finished at different time, the one who finished later and applied using the new rule will get the application processed before the one who finished earlier and applied using old rule? Does anyone know if there is a work around to this problem or if they are attempting to fix this problem? This is because there seems to be no way out. You can't change the occupation and get new assessment. Also, for graduates who have been graduated for over 6 months can't even make a new application even though you can be assessed as one of the ICT occupations in the new SOL. Guest jigish
I applied in 2008 with recent graduate as occupation and now someone who's got same qualifications as me will get through before me. Isn't it great? I think they still think like convicts. Idiots.
Guest tyasawa
My boyfriend and I are in the same position with you guys. Both of us applied 885 - ICT Recent Graduates. Heck even the ones with MODL now are the same category with us. I also think that this is illogical... I tried to make sense of it all to no avail.. -,- I believe DIAC noticed this problem but chose to ignore it. Why can't they just ask us to submit new skill assessment without making new application? My boyfriend is currently holding TR tho, so I'm thinking of pushing my boyfriend to get a new skill assessment, reapply for 885 and restart the whole process again... but he's sick of these whole games and a bit hesitant. I emailed my agent asking her about priority processing, she still quote me email from brisbane processing centre with CSL rules. I also still got the same email when I sent blank email. I've also asked her about my concern regarding this matter and she hasn't reply back tho she generally reply me quickly. So I think she doesn't have the answer yet. Sorry I couldn't be any help. Think positive and do not let the anger eats you up, I doesn't help but only makes you more tired (happened to me before). It is ok to vent you frustration a little tho if it makes you feels better

Can I use it to get new assessment and attach it to my existing 885 application? Hi jigish, I think you can get new assessment BUT I don't think you can attach it to your existing 885 application. In this document, on page 3 it said: Applicants with a nominated occupation that is not on the SOL – Schedule 3 in effect at 1 July 2010 can only move into a higher priority group by lodging a new application with an employer sponsorship or a state or territory government nomination in an occupation specified under a state migration plan. Alternatively, applicants can only nominate a different occupation that is on the SOL – Schedule 3 by lodging a new application. It is not possible to change a nominated occupation or to change to an employer sponsored or state nominated visa category, unless a new application is lodged. A new application would require the payment of a new Visa Application Charge. Are you holding bridging visa at the moment? When did you student visa expires? Yes, I have bridging visa A and my student visa expired last year. But why are you asking me that? Is there some workaround?

Guest tyasawa
Yes, I have bridging visa A and my student visa expired last year. But why are you asking me that? Is there some workaround? I asked because if you hold a eligible visa, you can lodge a new application with a new skill assessment if you chose to have one. Even though you have a new skill assessment on schedule 3, I don't think there's any other way beside lodging a new application at the moment since they clearly said that you can't nominate a different occupation. I am in the same position with you. I've working experience now plus I'll be finishing my master soon. I am holding a bridging visa. Therefore even though I apply for new skill assessment for occupation on schedule 3, it would be useless since it is not possible to update you nominated occupation. So we can only wait and pray now

For old SOL 2231-79 (ICT Recent Graduate) i believe that was the requirement. Anyway, new classification means another $2525 + $400 just to get into group 3. I recall someone saying there is a significant number of ENS so I doubt that group will get processed as fast as some people are making it out to be. Honestly I am quite confused about the group c requirement now. I read the guidelines available at ACS Skilled Migration section, can't find anything definite about it. My boyfriend might go for group A if that is the case then, with two years experience. Edit: I've just read GSM Info booklet, it says there work experience exemption only applies for 6 months after graduation. T_T.. yea I realise that group 3 do not mean substantially faster, but it's just a little less hopeless. He can't go for ENS, by the time he got the 3 years experience he does not hold any substantive visa anymore. I'm thinking of writing to voice my concern regarding Comp Prof. NEC against new applicants to DIAC. I know that they are a lot of us out there.. Could it possibly make any difference? Guest jigish
I think, passing of C&C bill, is the only ray of hope for us. @tyasawa Was it hard to find a job after graduation, on bridging visa? Did you have any prior experience?

Did you have any prior experience? For me, It was pretty hard to find a full time job. I got it after 6 months trying. I've been doing part time job approximately 1 year before my graduation. I went through couple interview and rejections before finally I got my current job. On the other hand, my boyfriend didn't have any part time job experience but he got a job a month after his graduation. I know he is capable but I think he's really lucky too. He got a chance to show his abilities to his employer. After the interview, he got 7 days trial period kind of thing, and they are really happy with him therefore he got the job. it can be discouraging at times... but it is not impossible
Guest chajath
Hi, I'm in a same situation with you guys. Lodged the PR app Jan 2009. Started another degree but soon found out they are not gonna ever process my app if I don't have any 'specialisation'. So I found a job and I'm in to 7th month being a .net programmer. Back in last November when I asked DIAC on whether I could have my app processed, it is them who advised me to find a job, work for a year and get a specialised 2231-79 skill assessed. As for 6 month requirement for Group C, a similar provision was taken out in their last update when they have stated that it is entirely up to DIAC to determine whether the exemption applies. So ACS will still process an application for 2231-79 (whatever specialisation) ICT Recent Graduate regardless of whether the application was made after how-many-month of graduation. I think the injustice done here was that many of us was doing what the DIAC asked us to do; postpone whatever else was on our priority and got an entry-level job in a hope that after a year we get our application processed. The best we can hope for is for DIAC and ACS to come up with a transitional arrangement where ACS still processes 2231-79 ICT Recent Graduate in accordance with their old guidelines for MODL/CSL, and DIAC recognise such assessment and generously allow some 2231-79 with specialisation to map into a different ANZSCO code. Guest tyasawa
Hi Chajath, I sincerely hope DIAC does came up with something... though my hope get shattered each time they make an announcement. And also they already have transitional aragentment in place, how in the world they got to classify all nec as software tester!!?? Especially since new IT graduates will be mapped to new ANZSCO codes.. My boyfriend is waiting for his .NET assessment from ACS atm. Let's see if it would do him any favor at all. I'm not hopeful tho, since based on DIAC latest announcement it wouldn't help since it's not on schedule three. Cheers, Tyas
Guest chajath
Hi, It is obviously negligence on Minister to omit 2231-79 with specialised category. How are the people classified as 2231-79 (.net) any qualitatively inferior to those who will get other ANZSCO code for doing exact same thing. I'm interested in voicing our concern to relavent authorities. Who shall we be writing to? Would it be better to gather a sizable people and send a letter with signature of those people? The relevant authorities are Skills Australia and ACS. Letting them know how absurd the current situation is can work wonders, I think. Skyrocket
G'day, Im new to this forum. Applied for PR back in August 2009 under 2231-79 Computing Professional (ICT Recent Graduate). I concur that this new awarding of ANZSCO codes for new ICT graduates is an absolute outrage ! How can they be in category 3 and all the rest of us dumped unceremoniously into category 4 just because we applied for PR before July 2010. Guest ddd2010
I think we (all 2231-79 Computing Professionals (nec) applicants who are affected) should ALL write to all relevant authorities, whether if it's DIAC, ACS, Skills Australia, Migration Institute of Australia, Immigration Ombudsman or whatever else we can find and explain to them about this absurd defect in the transitioning of the system. Hopefully, they will be able to see this logical problem and attempt to resolve it. I don't know but I think if we can point out this problem which is specific to 2231-79 Computing Professionals (nec) to a wider community to be aware of and if there are many of us sending the message then they will know that this problem is real and hopefully they will fix it. Couldn't agree more. On a bright side of things, it is just too plainly absurd result that obviously ACS/Skills Australia would be nuts if they don't put in some sort of transitional arrangement for us 2231-79 applicants. Also we need to keep this thread alive and update/inform each other as we go, so we can keep track of where things are heading to.

Guest chajath
I've already written to those morons in the ACS a couple of days ago regarding the double standards for new and old graduates. Haven't from them as yet though Hi, Well, in the latest statement from ACS http://www.acs.org.au/assessment/docs/SUMMARY_OF_CHANGES_PASA_GUIDELINES_FOR_APPLICANTS.pdf, the reference to the work experience is still there in case of Group C (Recent Grads), but it is not clear as to how are they going to use that extra information. Things should really be done by both ACS and Skills Australia. ACS keeping a good old specialised 2231-79 for ICT Recent Grads with one year experience and Skills Australia conditionally mapping such 2231-79s into a different code, that will do the trick. If we fail at that level, then we are talking going for another Ministerial direction, which can take up to who-knows-how-many-years
