I was with Hays in the UK, they were great they would ring every friday with new jobs to go to and they also sent text messages of upcoming work, can't really comment with Hays here but if they operate like most other recruitment agencies in Australia then I wouldn't bother with them, I am on 2 agents books and have been since October I ring them every week and they say they have nothing but then I see on job websites that they are advertising for jobs that I can do, it's very frustrating so I understand how you feel...

I applied for a job via them two weeks ago and had a telephone interview/conversation with them yesterday. The lady i spoke to was very nice and said she would come back to me with a list of companys that she would approach with my details. Fingers crossed. I will keep you informed!

Good luck

Oh yes theyre all doin the same thing! I applied to 8 agencies in one go and you never hear back from them. Most of the jobs they post are dummy to get people on their books. Great work ethics eh!

Have to agree with you 100% on this one. Job agencies here are there for one purpose only and that is to waste your time. Makes me so mad that they do it and get away with it.:arghh:

know just how you feel Lesley, how frustrating is it when you've made the effort and spent all that time searching throough the ads and then applying, and they don't even say 'thanks but no thanks'. Its just plain rude.

It seems to happen all the time to the british. The government says 'come on over we have a shortage of skilled people here', then when you arrive, you see that they were lying. We are trying to change the resume and not mention England at all and see if they become more interested then. Its worth a try.

I have also noticed the same practice here in Australia there is an about half a dozen job’s with various agencies that are identical to 12 months ago!

And that is just my trade!

Which is very annoying because you have no way of proving that they are fake job adverts.:arghh:

It is this deceptive practice they gives all job agencies a bad reputation which is not fair on the few good & honest agencies.

The way they get around this if any one try’s to check they have a list of additional qualifications /experience that just about excludes everyone on the planet from getting the job.

Whilst on holiday in Dec my OH saw a perfect job advertised with HEYS. We had 3 days left in Oz, which we explained on the phone each time we called Heys (about half a dozen times) and was assured each time that the agent dealing with that particular possition would call us back..........you guessed it........never heard a thing!

I have been dealing with Hays in Melbourne from over here in the UK.

I have found them very helpful and have had two telephone interviews with ElectraNet in Adelaide which went very well.

The guy I have been dealing with has recently left but his replacement is equally as good and is arranging some interviews for me when I come over for a reccie next month.

I suppose this goes to show that the reputation of a company can hinge on one agent's commitment! My Husband tends not to look at jobs advertised with Heys now...or should I say he isn't filled with hope that his hard work in applying will be worth it as he feels he won't be shown any consideration!

Too true, we were naieve and went to Oz on a tri last year, on the back of a job interview with a client for possible sponsorship,

We arranged a few other interviews with agencies at the same time, but it was the confidence put in this one that was the reason for our travel.

Well not only was the interview not with the end client but we hired a car and drove for a couple of hours to meet with someone that hadnt a clue about construction or direct contacts (as it wasnt her specialism) hmm she could have told us the truth 7 months prior when we were speaking via email every few weeks.

Not happy! 3 days before we left we had word of another client whom wanted to interview us, a phone call or few later we made it clear it needed to be fast before we flew out.

Not a sausage ! We did have a voicemail trying to arrange the interview, AFTER we left and were on the plane for blighty lol

ahh well put it down to experience, but i am sorry to say bot just this experience but others that run along the lines that people have posted on here, sadly make me very dubious about recruitment firms, especially big non specific ones, and job adverts online :err:

Agency's ask for up to 50% of your salary for their fee so a lot of companies don't use them I have a friend who has applied to work at the same place as me but as he has applied through the agency he won't get the job. The job will go to someone who has applied via a advert directly.

Hi all, ive lost count of the agencies ive registered with, i get a couple of emails a week but ive noticed they are all the same, " landscape surveyor, civils foreman" are the 2 most popular lately !!!

We went for a reccie recently and ive brought home the yellow pages and will write to all the building firms once i get the visa date, that seems hard going but at least i will be contacting them direct !

good luck all

I have to agree with you all of you on this ive signed up with 6 agencies over the last 8 months, when you ring them up about an advertised job there like no problem you just need to come in and register. Then we can approach client you should be able to start on monday lol what a crock havent got any work from any of them.

I have just followed up the email i sent to say that it has come to light that there seems to be alot of people unhappy with their service and asked for a senior member of staff email, maybe we can all then send an email to say how unhappy we are with the service they offer and lack of communications...

I can only say good things about HAYS. I contacted them while I was in the uk, they promptly sent me an email back to advise once I had arrived on Perth to contact them and arrange a meeting. I did exactly that, went into the Perth office for an informal chat, was offered an interview for a job that day, went along and got it! But I must admit has been a different story for my OH, he is a Carpenter and we have applied for soooo many jobs on the SEEK web site, but does he ever hear anything...NO!

Saying that the only honest agency i have dealt with up to now is Hays in mooloolaba. Fellas name is Richard. He has no work but at least he is honest and rings back when he says he would.

Good luck with the search and if i hear of anything will let you know.

I acutally spoke to to Moololabah yesterday and as you said they where honest about jobs etc seems to be a massive shortage on the coast at the moment.
