  1. We live on the NSW QLD border and Victorian plates pass though the boarder without being challenged
  2. We applied for Citizenship April 1 2017 and we have our ceremony on Feb 14 2018. So 10 months Start to finish. We are in Queensland and ceremony on the GoldCoast
  3. During the application process it asks you if you would like to attend the ceremony with any other applicants. so yes you will all attend the same ceremony.
  4. We have confirmed that they don't uptick up their bags till they get to Brisbane
  5. Thanks for your replies, I have tracked a few flights now (im sure some embassy will be monitoring my movements) to gain a but of knowledge of the rough departure gates the airline is going from. if I can give mum and dad as much info as possible before they fly that will ease the anxiety of dad.
  6. Greetings All, My Mum and dad are flying out in October from manchester - Abu Dhai then Abu Dhai - Sydney and finally sydney - Brisbane. Dad is gets anxious and is already worried about missing the connecting flight. i am looking for departure gates that etihad use at Abu Dhai airport so i can point them in the rough area of where their flight is likely to depart from. I know if this flight goes wrong they will never come back. I miss my mum and dad so much that I want this to go smoothly Ive looked on the airport website and their is little information. Yes i can book the meet and greet but i would be much happier spending the $250 on them once they are here. Thanks in advance. This is a happy thread please people
  7. I used to live in Kirkham which is about 10miles away from Blackpool. I now live on the Gold coast, Ashmore first now Currumbin waters. I love how people compare Blackpool and Surfers. It must be the fact that both towns have big towers and there is always a chance that you might get caught by a shark. I would look in to the possibility of work before making any choice, work is very slow on the Gold coast at the min but if you’re in the building trade then the future might be bright as the commonwealth games and the possible cruise ship terminal will bring a lot of work for the next few years or so. We are finding it difficult to change jobs at the min as to do so would mean having to move to Brissy which I am happy to do, it just means moving the kids out of a great school. The sunshine coast is great to, in its more laid back way. It’s a bit like Cleethorpes (as we are comparing places) My advice would be sign only 6 month rental agreements and then if you don’t like an area move, and keep moving until you are happy. We found most of our fronds after signing the kids up to a soccer club, now we all play and have made some excellent friends. Once the soccer season ended we started little athletics and just got involved helping at the events (we are no normally keen on pushing ourselves ) it is great. We have found friend that we can put emergency contacts now as when we first arrived 9 months ago we had no one. Hang in their friends are waiting for you to introduce yourself. Don't be shy.
  10. Hi we are breaking the lease on our house in Ashmore on the gold coast, The current lease is due to end in March. The house is a three bed town house on the broni estate, Cotlew street. This might be useful to anyone moving to the gold coast that wants a short term rental till they find their feet. This link shows one of the houses on the estate (they are all much alike) http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-ashmore-106447713 Please contact me if you need any details or pass on to anyone that might be interested. The property is unfurnished.
  11. Give seven seas a ring their prices are fantastic for small stuff.

Fantastic pictures. Can I ask what type / make of camera you used.
  13. carry the camera as hand luggage when you come over, thats what we did and we had no probs at all.
  14. It's not so warm here right now either unless you are going up north, we have only been here 4 months and we are feeling the cold. :ssign2:
  15. Yes Ship everything, I thing you are looking at around £3000 for a sole use container but that is nothing when you have to start replacing stuff. We didn't bring everthing and kind of regret it now. we have used Amart for furniture and Kmart for homeware which are the cheap'o shops. I shared a container and as a result of that I still am waiting for my stuff that left my house in the U.K on the 8th Feb. not impressed. Also make sure you get every company you consider round to quote as we didn't, we just took the word of a few co's and then phoned asking how much xxcubic mtrs would cost when they came to collect the stuff they said we had double what we had paid for and had to decide what to leave. not nice. would I use the co I used again. I'll tell you when my stuff arrives. Unless you want to know now......... then you will have to P.M me, cos I would never name and shame.
  16. Just cook a roast dinner inside that warms the house up. How's it going. Fantastic you will love it, enjoy your time that you have in the UK though. I don't miss the UK at all only a few people. It's funny who keeps in touch once you move you will be surprised.
  17. The sun might just about come out for when you arrive. It's been chilly this weekend, but it has stopped raining now.
  18. Good to see the grants still coming in congratulations to everyone. I was from the part 1 of this thread and have been in aus for nearly 3 months now, hang in their everyone it is worth the wait. Good luck and keep that waiting room tidy.
  19. We also used the Thomas Cook Cash passport it is brilliant, and like Bensdad says you can load more money on it and use it. it has a full online service that is great.
  20. Our Arrival Report I have read through hundreds of these since being on pomsinoz, so I feel that I want to give back with writing one also. We arrived on Friday 10th fed in the small hours of the morning at Brisbane airport and passed through passport control and customs with no hassle at all, I declared that i had food stuff and wooden items on the declaration form (I was asked what these items were so i just explained we were emigrating and had a few picture frames and Bisto for a good friend who had helped us.) We hoped on to the conextions bus that we had booked from the U.K (with the help of a good friend) and 30mins after landing we were heading South to the Gold Coast. We are stopping in Ashmore Palms Holiday Village and the staff here are fantastic they deal with quite a few that emigrate and supply you with several copies of the rental agreement for proof of address, they also helped us with local knowledge and stuff. We didn’t manage to sleep at all so we headed of on foot to the local shopping centre to find the bank that we had to open the account at, this was so easy the guys at the bank were brilliant. Next stop was the medicare office we picked up the forms and took them home to fill in. Friday night I sorted Tax Numbers out online all so easy. Saturday I met my boss he is fantastic and has lent me a car and said have a week to explore and sort and we will see you on the 20th (Is this place for real) Saturday night down to Surfers for some R&R Brilliant Sunday much of the same. Monday we headed off to look round schools we visited four in the area and eventually chose the one where we are staying it is a state school but it looks ok and has good results. We started to look for long term rentals as well. Over here you phone the agent and they give you a time to visit there will be several families looking round we were so uneasy with this as the tenants were watching telly and it seemed impersonal. I felt sorry for the lady doing the visit as several families just bombed round and chucked a prepared rental pack in her face saying we will hear tomorrow. !!!!! (They were British as well) The rest of the week we have spent sorting things (driving licence, white card for hubby more rentals, rental pack) in the morning and relaxing in the afternoon it has so far been great. Just a note for those with school age children, be pre paired to spend approx $150 per child for school book, pens and stationary this was a shock to us as we were issued a list that filled an A4 piece of paper of items that they need. And then there is uniform. All in all everything has gone well, We have Skyped home a few times and also purchased some Skype credit to phone landlines, bank ect. But so far we are lovin it. Good luck to everyone still waiting
  21. Well the shippers came and went and what stuff we packed is on it's way. We had to leave stuff behind but we will just have to cope without it. Freecycle, gumtree and ebay are going to be my good friends to replace the stuff we left. We only have one box that should have gone that hasn't and that is full of my daughters little bits and bobs and her lego heroica. so off to Tesco it was for another suit case. we were well under on weight I,m not as confident now about the weight but we will have to think about that once we get to the airport. I am not stressing about it now.
  22. shippers have arrived to tell us we have way to much stuff and it is gonna cost us another £1000 to ship, yerr i've got money to sh1t .
  23. Great Better let some air in mine then as all my stuff it in vacuum bags. Brilliant LOL. Another good idea gone to the dogs.
