Hello, my partner is a band 7 of 14yrs experience in the NHS (community based, older age mental health) and is struggling to find any early diagnosis / treatment dementia memory clinics in the Sydney metro area. He doesn't want to go back onto the wards. Does anyone have any info about employment opportunities? Agencies just don't seem to 'get' his specialism and keep highlighting inappropriate mental health posts (wrong client gorup) in the wrong locations!

He may have to take a steop back to move forward .... I was a G Grade/Band 7 and came to work on the wards as a 1.9 for 4 months to get a grounding of process, MHA etc.,

You could try the private sector for elderly care, or Older Adult Mental Health. Agencies generally, just need to fill short term gaps for shifts. Why not apply directly to hospitals for jobs in Older Adult and once he's here he can then apply for something else.?

Hi,

just about to send off our nursing registration to aphra, does anyone know if they will make contact with my current and past employers? Don't really want my employer to find out just yet? Any past experience of this would be much appreciated. Also ho much have people paid to get JOP to certify docs?

From what we can gather, there doesn't seem to be much consistency re: the APRAH registration process, and it's all a bit confusing.

As part of my partner's application he sent a letter from his current employer to APRAH stating how long he's worked there and what his repsonsibilities are. As far as he's aware, APRAH haven't contacted his present or past employer for further details.

APRAH only wanted 2 of his documents to be certified by a notary public (but i think a JOP would have done instead), and this cost £25 each. Other documents were certified by a solicitor (who's a friend so didn't charge).

I wouldn't be surprised if other people have had different experiences and different requirments.

Ive been successful at getting a Drug&Alcohol job with Healthscope, starting in oct. Im band 7 here and have been offered slightly more money due to 10yrs post qual. You need to look for Grade 2 jobs.

It might not be everyones choice but ive gone through an agency who set me up with a job interveiw. (Geneva health) I was very specific about what i wanted, so expected it to be difficult, but its turned out ok

Healthscope is taking on bit they dont always advertise. You can always submit your CV however, St john of god isnt taking on in VIC (although their SM units look good) at the moment so i hear, as they have a big drive for WA. there is another hosp, but i cant remember the name. Its in Fitzroy (anyone?)

If your going PR then you should find a job no problem. Be prepared to go back to the ward and be a staff nurse for a while, just to get your foot in the door.

If you wanted to speed things up you will get 457 without issues.

I began the process properly in Dec 08 and signed my contract with start date for new job, on monday this week.

Good luck

Hiya,

i currently work for the Priory group in UK in addiction as an RMN. I also have job with Healthscope in brisbane. What are your experiences with the company? Positive? Awaiting 457 processing at moment................

Thanks

RE: APRAH registration, my partner applied 7 months ago. He's recently received verbal confirmation over the phone, but has yet to receive the letter.

I faxed off a letter to them and a case officer contacted me by e-mail, which meant that I had a point of contact. I sent off an e-mail and the next day she e-mailed the scanned letter over to me. I made a point of sending my confirmation of employment and stressed the need to for the reg to be processed quickly. Do you have a job offer, this may speed it up a little?

AHPRA first for nursing reg. Take it step at a time.....nursing reg first then concentrate on everything else. Don't worry about visas until registration comes through

Hi all, i have been looking at Cairns as a destination, but there doesn't seem to be a great deal of jobs on offer for a band 5 mental health nurse.

I have had some interest from Townsville, but thats still 300 ish miles south . and my wife who is a general nurse has had a positive job offer in Cairns . What to do ????? .

Hi there Skr, I currently work as a Mental Health Nurse in Townsville, feel free to ask me any questions! I have been to Cairns as well, it's lovely with lots of culture and great places to eat and shop. It really depends on what you are looking for. Townsville is around 3.5 to 4 hours South, there are plenty jobs in the Mental Health Unit here, but it is very backward in the way of Nursing.

Hi everyone,

Im asking this question for a family member that is thinking of emigrating to WA. She is a mental health nurse here in the UK & has been for around 10 years. She is wondering whether she would need to convert her qualification into an Australian qualification if they were to move? This worries her as she would obviously want to start earning straight away. Also her husband is a plumber & she already knows that he would need to get a licence to work as a plumber in Australia.

If anyone knows anything about this I would really appreciate some advisE so I can pass it on. Also if she would have to do a conversion does anyone know how long this would take?, whether its hard? & how much it costs?

Thanks in advance.

Hayley

They will put a restriction on your registration as being Mental health only. I was registered with WA as division one mental health and my registration was transfered with the restriction of mental health.

the silly thing is they registered me as a general nurse and i can't seem to change health it. i work in mental health of course and i am an rmn in uk but nothing on my registration here says i am an rmn. no one else the same?

Mine doesn't say that it's mental health, but when they sent the form to say 'check your details' the restriction box was ticked - I asked them and they said it meant I could only work in MH
