I dont think being a nurse matters does it? Im not sure how long other nurses waited. .I had 65 points...I uploaded everything straight away..did medicals and sent off for police checks before I lodged application so nothing had to be requested..maybe that helped..I dnt know! Good luck :)

Xlornax - how many points did u have when you applied for your visa? 4 weeks sounds very quick or is that about average for nurses? Hope mine is that quick too! Makes up for the lengthy skills assessment process! :)

I don't know at all how they select people to apply. Some people seem to wait ages to be invited so I just thought 4 weeks seemed pretty quick from lodgement to grant! I have 65 pts too so maybe I won't have to wait too long. Thanks for info. X

I too am a RMN UK trained at the University of Nottingham graduating 09/2006 and have been worried about applying to AHPRA because I'm a little confused over their acceptance for diploma nurses? Has anyone had any negative feedback or concerns raised suggesting Post Grad. Diploma level RMN's not being eligible for registration? Would be good to hear from you with your thoughts.

Regards

Scott

Hi Scott

I Just received my LOE last week, I am a diploma RMN and I did not have any

problems regarding my diploma. I had mega issues with my English

as am not a British citizen even though I have been in UK for almost

15 year had to do the English test to meet the criteria.

Think I would consider applying as I assume they've got a large backlog if people who applied last August are just getting their LOE now. Ask ANMAC to send on your file & that'll cover some of the documentation. I contacted NMC & uni at the same time I sent my application just so they'd have it before the other stuff was sent, although I think the NMC has still to send confirmation my course was verified! They're not the quickest.

Hiya, me and my partner are both qualified with advanced diplomas, his in Spain and mine in the UK. Am i right in thinking i don´t have to take the IELTs and he will? I´m UK born n bred... also will we need to take the IRON 3 month course? Does anyone know the best/cheapest option to take with that?

Thanks :) Sarah and Nico

Hi, it all depends what type of visa you are looking for as to whether you need IELTS. I am looking at PR and therefore for points I will need IELTS and I will be a degree registered mental health nurse. I am sorry, but in 5 years of researching nursing and Oz and the process I have never heard of IRON?

IRON is a bridging course.

thanks , will do that and get it underway . is the nmc verification of registration enough to cover that , the nmc one that cost £34?

I've also sent a copy of the form regarding criteria 3 that's now on the AHPRA website to the verification dept at the NMC for them to complete & send to AHPRA. I don't know if they've done it yet because I've not had any contact from them but I don't think there's a charge for this. If I get asked to pay extra I'll let you know.

I am a registered nurse working in UK holding Australian nursing registration. I am planning to start my visa application(PR), I am really confused with skill assessment. Do I need to take a skill assessment for Permanent Visa? is it modified assessment? how long will it take? what are the papers should I submit ? is it online ? any advantage as I am holding AHPRA registration ? please all information and guidance appreciated.

Thanks.

Advantage is you only need to do modified assessment. .takes 16 weeks...you cant apply online..you need to send in paper application..have a look on anmac website. You will need qualification certificate, references, proof of registration etc...the website gives all info

Hi guys,

I am still finding my feet on this site as registered ages ago but only recently have started the process. It's just a few things I need anyone out there with the knowledge to answer. So your help and advice will be much appreciated.

Firstly this is where I stand: registered diploma nurse in March 2007. Worked as a scrub nurse since qualifying so 7 years to total.

Sat and passed my English academic test beginning of Feb. Separate issue but sitting the general English test in May to gain myself extra points for a permanent residency visa rather than anything else. Received an email from ANMAC on 28th March to say they have received all my documents.

Ok so here's the questions.

Obviously reading some of the posts on here I've now learnt I may come un stuck being a adult diploma nurse rather than degree, although been qualified and registered with NMC for 7 years. Should I be worried or is it scare tactics? I want to put my APHRA documentation in now since I'm panicking about the diploma issue but reading the ANMAC site they are happy to send all the documents they have received from me direct to APHRA when they have assessed me. Has anyone else done it this way and if so did APHRA except it and were there delays from ANMAC to APHRA? Also does APHRA require additional documentation sending direct from myself?

Still on the issue of APHRA. As yet I'm undecided on Queensland or Victoria to set up my new life. Can someone clarify something for me. If I register my interest with APHRA in Queensland and I am excepted but then circumstances mean I have to relocate to Victoria can my registration be transferred to Victoria? I'm guessing they will want an administration fee to do it be surely if you have been given a registration number from them it's shouldn't matter what state you practice in regards you registration? I'm just not sure if I'm getting the wrong end of the stick it's just I've been told you have to register with the state you want to practice as a registered nurse in. I'm hoping I wouldn't have to pay out again for another registration. That would be expensive.

On a personal note I'm a single mum of a 12 yr girl. I will be coming out to Oz with just Ellie my daughter. Obviously money is tight being on my own so every decision I make here on in is a huge emotional and financially commitment from me. I need to know all my facts at every step of the way, that's why I'm asking the questions above. I will be forever grateful to anyone on here that can help with the issues above.

Huge thanks in advance. Leanne xx

I have read the posts where people are presuming Diploma registered nurses are not valid, however there is no evidence what so ever to quantify this. In fact I am pretty certain AHPRA have stated that a UK diploma level nurse is the same as an Oz degree level nurses. They don't do honours within their degree (generally)!

Also, as far as I am aware (I never like giving direct statements lol 'just in case') AHPRA is valid in each and every state now. I think you used to send to the state you were moving to but its all changed.

Good Luck with the move, I think there are quite a few single parents on here, so hopefully they will give you some advice.

Enjoy the research and planning!

Hi Jac2011,

Thanks for the reply. I really hope that that is the case. I wasn't really stressed until I saw that about the diploma thing.

In regards to APHRA, it makes life a lot easier if it doesn't matter which state office you lodge your nursing interest too. Thank god for that!

Big rig thanks again for the info.

Cheers Leanne xx

Oh yes, they! can do honours in their degrees, and many do. As far as I know AHPRA no longer in their policies claim that diploma nurses from the UK are recognised and under the new criteria, one is supposed to have experience in many nursing settings, as compared to the Australian degree, so the specialisations of the UK nursing degrees really do not cut the mustard if one wants to be real, especially the latest degree as there is no longer a common year in the UK RN qualification. At this time nurses from EU countries are being rejected under the new criteria and they had in the last policy of AHPRA, if they came under the EU directive they would be accepted.

It is so stressful that they should change things like this as they may just have a bigger nursing shortage coming due to not recognising the UK nurse.

ceridwyn, I see you are new to the forum.

Would you like to provide your evidence for this claim?

I know AHPRA have reassured many Diploma registered nurses that there level of education is valid and no diploma registered nurses on this forum have reported having any problems since the changes.

A BSc with honours would be classed as AQF level 8 in Australia, In order to be recognised as a nurse you require AQF level 7 - Bachelor degree (without honours)!

Australian nursing degree examples (without honours):

http://www.uq.edu.au/study/program.html?acad_prog=2241

http://programs.unisa.edu.au/public/pcms/program.aspx?pageid=171&sid=101

There are options to take courses with honours if you wish, but they aren't the majority. The majority are without the honours.

There is absolutely no evidence AHPRA have said diploma specialised nurses from the UK, will be accepted as yet, not those that applications are assessed under the new rules. As for EU nurses education not being accepted go to other forums and the appeals that have been made.

The new criteria is based on national law that AHPRA was founded and that states health professionals from overseas are to be assessed on the criteria for those in the profession educated in Australia. What has not helped is the NMC stating Australuan nursing education does not compare to that of the UK because it is not specialised and Australian nurses not being accepted in the UK.

Now unfortunately the wait begins.
