Looking for jobs

Looking for some advice-

I'm an accountant with 10+ experience. I'm looking for PT role which allows me to WFH. My little one is too young to go to child care. I was wondering if I can get a UK position which allows me to WFH.

A bit of background, I am a British Citizen living in Oz for about 10years, all my family are back home. I was Sr Financial Accountant in my last role, the company decided to make me redundant weeks after I told them about my pregnancy.

The UK hours would suit so much better as my husband can look after LO when I'm working. I know it's a real "as if" kinda question, just thought I'll see if anyone has a contact and are willing to help a fellow Brit:)

Thanks

I have started to see 100% remote roles advertised, but not many of them part time.  Part time roles are tricky at the best of times.  Maybe talk to one or two agencies in the UK?

In theory no reason why not.

You will make your own accounting harder as you will have issues with dual taxation (as you will be providing services in the UK so will need to charge UK VAT if you go over the threshhold and account for UK earnings via the UK tax system as well as the AUS one)

So you're not thinking of moving back to the UK, you want to stay in Australia but get a remote job working for a British company, so you can work at night?

It can't hurt to try, but I would be pessimistic about your chances.  If you can find a company who's desperate for an accountant then you might get lucky, but many companies still like you to be able to attend the office from time to time, even if the job is WFH.  My sister moved from London to North-East Scotland just before Covid hit.  Shortly after, she got a WFH job with a company in Birmingham.   She's 100% remote, but still had to visit the office for an initial meet-and-greet and has since had a couple more flying visits.

I wonder if a British employer would worry that your recent experience is in the Australian tax and finance system and not the British one?  You may need to think about how you could reassure them about that.
