Umarus
Hi. I am new here, so please excuse me if I am repeating I am planning to apply for skilled visa (189) as a high school maths teacher. 1. I see that cost is AUD3500. Is it payable after confirmation of the permit? Or is it non-refundable fee which needed to be paid for application? 2. Should I better try first get a position? (I think 190 skilled visa)
JetBlast
It is an application fee. You pay it even if you're refused. You will find it extremely difficult to find a job without a visa.

(I think 190 skilled visa) Not sure if you have done the research yet. Be mindful that before you can lodge the visa application, you will need to pass a formal skills assessment, English testing, have enough points, lodge an Expression of Interest and only then, if you are invited, can you lodge and pay for a subclass 189 visa. If you want to apply for the 190, it is the same process, except you will also need sponsorship approval from a State or Territory Government, before you can receive an invite. The subclass 190 does not get you a position/job.
