If you're holding and substantive visa 485 and not on bridging visa. I advise you to apply RSMS again if you are eligible instead of going on AAT. Yes it can be done... doesn't really matter which one is done first...some applicants have their visa lodged before starting with the RCB and Nomination being lodged. Get his passport first and provide them everything all together. They can still open ur file without his passport and grant you visa. There is no issue in it.
