Hi everyone, feeling disillusioned and have decided to clock out of this for now. It's getting too stressful and I think we'd be lucky to even get it prior to Christmas (lodged early April).

Regretfully, I rang IMMI yesterday and was told that they're still processing February - same response for many months now. He said that there are reasons for prioritising cases but they cannot disclose. Unfortunately, it doesn't help manage our expectations.

Also, I would advice NOT ringing immigration if possible. The person I spoke to yesterday sounded quite irate, even if I was very polite. I'm a bit worried that calling may have hurt our case - hope not. Goodbye for now and good luck to all of us!

Hey @Lzzielizzie I totally understand how you feel. The anxiety comes in unbearable waves, sometimes it feels like ::everything:: hangs on the application outcome. Please know we will all be ok. We have MA's to fight in our corner if there is an issue and a community who is here to support. Chin up!! Sending good energy your way :)

You may contact them to ask the status and the reason of that, politely.

Mine has been put there for more than 9 months, now under assessment after I made 3 or 4 telephone calls.

Calling them maybe useless, maybe useful, only GOD knows. You cannot JUST wait......

1 year now no case officer allocated yet .....no response......feeling helpless......

I always thought that hell must be just one big waiting room. Our anxiety makes us want to gain a bit of control over the situation, but since we can't, this intensifies the anxiety further. As with anything else in life, you cannot know what will happen with this tomorrow. Getting depressed will only affect your present and your relationship with dear ones. :)

Even if they were working on april-may cases (which seems to be the case, judging by the spreadsheet), i don't think they would like the applicants to know exactly what they are doing, because that would raise expectations and, thus, could create a lot of frustration, anger and then lead to calls to the department and so on. The more frustration there is, the less work they can get done well, in my opinion, since they are just people, like us. So we can't know for sure what is happening. That being said, when you cannot know and cannot change anything, you just have to keep your hopes up and try to live your life :)

I know so well it's hard to be positive, but at the end of the day the effort is worth it. And it's better for absolutely everyone around us too. So i hope everyone here can become stronger because this is no small challenge. And everything will sort out eventually :)

There are at least 3 examples of Direct Entry Visa from May 2016 which have been already approved

Migration Agents are probably not able to tell us what is going on, because they are not part of the process. My take on this is that they are only here for the administrative part (i.e. to help submitting documents). That's it. For the rest, they are just making assumptions.

Calling immigration does not change anything, negative or positive, one of my friend was ringing regularly and got his visa approved in 3 months.

They are probably annoyed because they are understaffed, but legally I do not think that they can put your file under the pile because you annoyed them. Then, this is sad that they cannot give a clear feedback because clearly they are processing May already - or we have a lot of trolls on this forum :-)

There is a lot of press around immigration at the moment:

http://www.sbs.com.au/yourlanguage/hindi/en/article/2016/11/16/breaking-news-australian-government-cuts-stay-457-visa-holders

And there are changes to come as well apparently:

http://www.interstaff.com/government-to-reassess-permanent-skilled-migration-rules

Regarding occupation, if you read the below article, you will see that some occupations on the SOL are in high demand (incl. Marketing Specialist) and still they seem to be approved with total different timelines.

http://www.sbs.com.au/topics/life/culture/article/2016/05/19/understanding-skilled-occupations-list-sol

Again, I do not think there is any logic, but if we want to get any further with the spreadsheet, we could also add our age, our partner occupations, because it looks like it is also important for immigration. We could also add our MA company to see which are most effective ;p

But at the end of the day, I do not think it will solve the issue of pending applications, and I agree this is super frustrating and relatively unfair.

Agents do not just fill forms in. They are experts in the legislation and their main role is to advise on options and ensure that applications are correct. Probably their biggest role is to ensure a person is applying correctly and for the most suitable visa. Hence why they undertake a fairly serious amount of training and must undertake ongoing professional development. It can actually be harder to become a MARA agent than a lawyer - and I am a lawyer.

They actually are part of the process as MARA is one of the consultative bodies in migration policy and legislative change.

The commissions report by the way may be accepted and acted upon, not acted on at all or bits accepted and acted on. Different parties have differing political objectives. Some, including the current government, like large scale migration as more people means business can keep costs down. Labour are more apt to tighten the rules. So, these things along with many others will dictate what if any of the commissions report turns into legislation. Also, if it requires legislation rather than ministerial change, then it could take years.

Thanks for your answer Verystormy!

To clarify what I wrote in my post: I doubt that MA have any visibility in the processing of our applications. If they had, they would give us answers.

And, look, I am not saying that MA are not competent or trained, of course they are. But let's be honest, the role is very administrative.

And, sure, MARA is a consultative body but it does not change the fact that our MA are unable to tell us why our applications are being processed at different paces.

Finally, while it gives us peace of mind to apply with an MA, many people also apply without, and are successful in their application.

Regarding the articles, I personally find it is useful to see what is currently being discussed and what may change.

Hi @Gsha, congrats! Why would they ask for another clearance - has your wife's o/seas police clearance expired already? If so, has she been to that country since the expiration?

Hope you get PR soon!

I still worry this too.my police clearance oversea obtained in March 2016. My application logded July 2016.

My files has not been allocated yet/ Does you wife clearance expired or they request recently one?

did they asked you any documents for visa

The case officer requested to the MA for nomination last 3 years notice of assessment for paying salary like ATO and my kids medical.

For visa the case officer requested to the MA business profit and loss report and last one year employer training. Both requested documents submitted together same day but I got nomination only 8 Nov again I am waiting for visa and my nomination granted different guy. You have any idea about my case.

In my experience, You don't need to get police clearance in Viet Nam If you still remain in Australia during waiting for visa assessment. However, they might ask you to submit a new Australian police check.
