lindsayloo
Hello! My partner and I are looking to move back to the UK with our son sometime in the next 12 months and have a lot of questions! Can anyone help with super? We have been here for almost 8 years, and have PR. Can we take our super with us? Also does anyone know how long citizenship takes and if we were to apply would this affect us being able to take our super with us? we are considering getting citizenship to keep our options open in the future. We have a house, bank account still in the UK. Does this mean we are ok to just move back? is there anything we need to be aware of? Thanks in advance
ali
You need to have been living in Aus for 4 years (the last 12 months on a PR visa) to apply for your citizenship. You then have to take the test, they then do background checks and then wait for a ceremony. It's a few years ago now, but from applying for the test to having our ceremony (that's when you're officially a citizen) it was 7 months, as we had to wait 5 months for the ceremony. Que Sera Sera
You cannot remove your Super if you have PR. This is only open to those with tempory visas.
VERYSTORMY
Citizenship varies a lot by council. The time for was about two months from doing the online application to test. Then about three months wait for the ceremony. Some councils let you pay to arrange a one off ceremony. As mentioned, you can't get your super if you are pr

You can't withdraw your super, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Australian superannuation is really just a (compulsory) savings account - it will go on earning money from now until you retire and you may get a nice surprise when you see how much it's grown. Just make sure you've got it in a good fund with good earnings: http://www.superguide.com.au/superannuation-topics/top-10-performing-super-funds Don't be afraid to move super - your employer can't tell you what fund to use and it's your money. I'd say DEFINITELY get citizenship before you go. You never know about the future, and your children may thank you one day.
