@srh82 - 5 one way flights LON to BRIS is currently £2300 with Etihad. I have been stalking flight prices for years and I have never seen them that good. They have been generally £1000 more.

It also helps us with booking short term accomodation, car hire and being able to give an employer an exact date. We have so much to organise that it makes sense for us to do it.

We are a family of 3 (Myself, hubby and daughter). We fly out from Scotland on the 11th May with a wee sleep over in Dubai then onto Brisbane, we arrive a day before my daughters 3rd birthday :ssign19:

We have booked 4 weeks holiday accommodation to give us time to enjoy and settle into our adventure!

I understand that some people dont like that level of risk, I am happy and have considered the risk and have decided it is acceptable.

As a nurse, with a degree and job offers I believe that whilst not 100% the risk is minimal. The only risk is whether the visa is granted on time in case of delays but we have two options, paying the fee to change the dates or arriving on a tourist visa initially.

I would rather grab a bargain flight price with a well known carrier.

The plan in abu dhabi for 21 hours is to stay in a nice hotel, get a good sleep and spend a few hours wandering round. There was another option offering a 2 1/2 hour stopover but we have chosen to go for the 21 hour.

How did you sort the stopover? @jac2011 was it booked through an agent or online? We hope to book ours over the next 4 weeks.

I don't mind a short stopover but my wife thinks it's best to break it up for the kids to get some rest. (I felt they might as well sleep on a plane I they are tired, as it might pass the time more)

Matthew Etihad prices are pretty good at the moment and you have the option to book the 21 hour stopover for just an extra £2 or so per person. It was through lastminute.com. I dont know how long these prices will stay like this though??? It leaves Heathrow at 9.15 am and is around 7 hours to Abu Dhabi, so by the time we get to our hotel the children will sleep, once they have had a good nights sleep we will see a few sights, return to the aiport and hopefully by then the children will be bored of the plane's and will sleep on the journey to Austrlalia :-).

Ive been flight watching too and we've booked etihad as well for four of us. Edinburgh to Abu Dabi, Abu Dabi to Perth, 4 hour wait in Perth to stretch our legs then Perth to Melbourne. Leave edinburgh 9am, arrive melbourne 11pm local time the following day. Cheapest I've seen in months of looking at different options.

We are planning a reccie to Sydney over Christmas and part of January to validate our visas. Family of 3 + 2 cats. Daughter stays in Australia for uni, and we will join her in September 2015.

Can't wait to move there permanently! Just sold the house and now starting to accumulate savings, to make us last for several months when we arrive in September.

We will be jobless and homeless, but hopefully happier... and for sure warmer :)

Hello,

Im 19 and live in the united states. I want to just leave my life here behind and move to Australia. i want to find myself a nice little piece of land and build a tiny home. Be somewhat secluded from the rest of the world. Right now im in some trouble and its not super bad but its pretty bad and im hoping after its all cleared up i can get on a plane and just go. but i was also looking to find other means of transportation there. Not just plane. like boat maybe. so hopefully by the middle of next year. (::embarrassed::cute:

i am planning to emigrate in March 2015. I've been offered a post in the northern beaches area of Sydney as a specialist nurse. its an exciting and nerve wracking time. so if anyone has any advice about the northern beaches area i'd love to hear it.

@northernstyle well done getting a job. I sent you a PM to ask a question about that. If you get a sec and want to help :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Me,my husband and 4 children(10,12,15,17) are planning on moving August 2015. We are currently waiting for an invite to apply for the 189 visa but hoping to get one in the next week. We are looking at moving to new south Wales. Not sure where yet but like the look of the central coast and south of Sydney. My husband is a signal technician on the railway so anyone that has any advice on jobs for him would love to hear from you!

We will arrive at Melbourne on 12 March 2015 with a 189 PR visa. Extremely excited! I already presented my resignation at work and will commit my entire time to plan our move. Can't wait to be there and continue this journey that started on 2010 when we took our decision of migrating from Venezuela!

Look up if you need a transit visa in abu dhabi, I think you need one if you are staying in transit for over 4 hours.
