millers
Hi people Myself and family are going back to the UK for a month next June and want some advice on mobile phones ( we have 2 Telstra ones over here in OZ) and we want be able to communicate the cheapest way possible for a month in Manchester. Does anyone recommend buying a cheap phone/ borrow one off friends and do pay as you go with a cheap sim card ? is that an option ??? Thanks peeps Virginia:arghh:
Que Sera Sera
Apparently you can buy a roaming pack from Telstra but we bought a pay as you go from Argos for £5!!!!! Used that and borrowed another. Really funny as the phone had the game snakes on it and my son spent hours playing on it. I threatened to buy him one for home and throw out his iPhone
Keith and Linda
We just buy a sim from Tesco, and just put it in an old phone we have, but if your present phones are not locked to Telstra here then those phones with a local sim should be ok. We don't even use 20quid on our 5-6 week holiday, but then we only have the phone to make phone calls, don't need all the other data stuff as can use friends/rellies computers/pads. You could look at maybe buying a (smart) phone here from Cash Converters, ensure it is unlocked and has a charger, then put a local UK sim in. Quoll
You can buy PAYG phones cheap as chips. When I did that I had a payg sim from O2 which I kept from visit to visit, £10 every now and again was ample. Check out the coverage maps though, you may be mainly in a black hole! rammygirl
We have payg sims from tesco nano ones for our I phones. We converted our UK numbers to payg before we left and just top them up when we go back. we keep the Aussie ones in a cheap dual sim phone using converter cards to fit the nano sims in. This way we have the UK sim in the smart phone with roaming off and can use wi fi to run stuff. Actually this time we bought data as it was cheap when we come back we can keep the UK sims safe in the cheap phone for the next trip.
